Root, Bairstow take England past 100
August 04, 2021
Bumrah comes back into the attack as he takes over from Shardul. The line is quite good as Root is made to defend on the off-side. He tries the variation with the incoming deliver but Root is able to glance it for a single to raise the 50-run stand for the fourth wicket.
In the next over, Root misses the flick off Siraj and gets a leg bye before Bairstow crashes an overpitched delivery through the covers for a four to take his score to 20.
The next ball is driven handsomely back past the bowler for a straight boundary as the two England batsmen settle down nicely in good conditions for batting on the opening day.
The last ball is clipped through midwicket for a couple of runs as England get a move along.
Bumrah getting the ball to tail into the right-hander as Root confidently keeps it out.
He gets an inside edge off the last ball which goes fine on the leg side for a four.
