Chargers thrash RCB, secure first home win

Deccan Chargers thrash Royal Challengers Bangalore by 33 runs on Thursday to secure their first ever home win.

It is the Hyderabad team's first win ever at the Rajiv Gandhi stadium in Uppal following eight straight defeats.

It is also their first win in three matches this season.

Chasing a formidable 176 to win, RCB could only manage 142 for nine in their stipualted quota of overs.

Virat Kohli's 51-ball 71, inclusive of five hits to the fence and three over it, was the lone notable effort in the Bangalore innings.

Dale Steyn is the most successful bowler for Chargers with figures of three for 24.

Dale Steyn comes in to bowl the first over after resumption.

Pujara hits him for two boundaries, the first through the covers and the second towards the third man.

However, Steyn has the last laugh having Pujara (25) caught by Christian at extra cover.

The wicket ends a prospering 62-run partnership for the sixth wicket that came off just 34 balls.

Johan van der Wath (0) is dismissed first ball, caught behind.

Kohli keeps fighting the lost battle though, hitting a boundary and a six in Gony's final over.

Gony has the final word though, rattling Kohli's (710 stumps with a slower ball.

It is 130 for eight.

Virat Kohli and Cheteshwar Pujara are fighting it out.

But it looks a lost cause, with the required rate increasing with every passing over.

Kohli completes his fifty with a maximum over midwicket off Mishra. It is his third IPL fifty.

He celebrates the same with another maximum, this time over long-on.

The Delhi player, the only one retained by RCB, stands between Chargers and a maiden home win.

Amit Mishra is introduced into the attack in the first over after the timeout (10th over) and he concedes eight runs, while Sangakkara also misses a chance to stump Kohli.

After 11 over, RCH had made 56 for four. The asking rate is increasing with every passing over.

And the pressure gets to Saurabh Tiwary (7). He skies an Amit Mishra delivery and Sangakkara makes no mistake.

Cheteshwar Pujara fails to pick up a googly first ball and is fortunate to survive a leg before appeal.

A no ball from Mishra ensures a free hit and Kohli despatches it to the fence.

The South African celebrates with another maximum of Van der Wath, this time over long on.

He can't get the next three balls away but hits a Dilscoop off Van der Wath's final ball.

Zaheer bowls the last over and Kohli takes a spectacular catch at midwicket off the second ball to get rid off Duminy (24).

Duminy's dismissal brings to an end a 57-run partnership for the fourth wicket.

Zaheer gets Daniel Christian (0) out leg before off his final ball to pick up his third wicket.

Chipli (61 not out) though ensures Chargers finish well, managing 175 for five.

A tough ask for Bangalore for sure.

Zaheer returns in the 17th over and a confident Chipli hits him for three boundaries in his first three balls.

A couple off Vettori in the next over helps Chipli register a well-deserved fifty.

Daniel Vettori comes into the attack in the sixth over, replacing an expensive Van der Wath (2-0-17-0). He concedes seven in his first over, a misfield at extra cover helping Sangakkara get his first boundary.
