Rajasthan make short work of Kochi

Timeline  Refresh

22:55
Scorecard:

Botha keeps his clean sheet in this tournament and finishes another unbeaten innings, as Rajasthan seal it.

They go second in the table, with seven points, but have played two matches more than anyone else.

That's it for the night, see you at the next match. Have a good week.
22:51
Scorecard:

Botha and Watson took a brutal four each off Jadeja, and he did not like it one bit.

He fired one -- a la Afridi -- right at Watson's toes, Watto missed it, it spun and took out the leg stump.
22:48
Scorecard:

Watson, who was content with letting Dravid take the lead in the opening partnership, has taken complete charge after the Wall's departure.

He went medieval on Murali, with scant respect for reputation, carting him for two massibe sixes over midwicket, as he took 16 runs off an over to bite off a huge chunk from the ask.

22:37
Scorecard:

Today's generally been a day of bad judgment in running between the wickets, and Dravid's the latest victim, misjudging the second run. A good knock comes to an end in an unfortunate manner.
22:33
Scorecard:

You dont see this often, but Watson is now just a speck on Dravid's rear-view mirror, as the Wall has galloped away to 42 off 34. Timely knock this...

22:15
Scorecard:

Rajasthan get the chase underway with Watson and Dravid, and against stereotype, Dravid is scoring at better than run-a-ball, and Watson is striking at 80.

22:14
Scorecard:

This one should be easy for Rajasthan and we would like to see Dravid come good today.

21:38
Scorecard:

Siddharth Trivedi finishes things off.

Kochi just lost the plot early on and never quite required.

This one is Rajasthan's to lose.
21:28
Scorecard:

Vinay Kumar slashes Amit Singh straight to Watson at widish third man.
21:25
Scorecard:

Thissara Perera is the next guy in the baraat, as he slogs one to midwicket, where Binny takes a stupendous tumbling catch.

21:21
Scorecard:

Raiphi Gomez -- bless his parents -- wants to get going asap, but doesnt get beyond Shane Watson at long on.

Kochi have now lost three wickets for nothing in 5 balls. Looks like Warne's call to chase is going to pay off.
21:16
Scorecard:

Kochi had to up the tempo and Jadeja took it upon himself and looked to sweep Warne into the orbit, but top edged it, as the bowler jogged backwards to take an easy catch.

The batsmen had crossed and off the very next ball, with the mounting pressure, PArthiv tried the reverse sweep, only to be caught out of his crease for a quick stumping.
21:07
Scorecard:

Warne and his boys have kept a tight leash on proceedings here.

Parthiv has been nudging it around in Jadeja's company, and these two are well set to do for Kochi what Symo-Rohit did for Mumbai.

20:35
Scorecard:

Warne turned one by a mile and Hodge shaped up for a cut. But the ball hurried on, and he could only chop it on to his stumps.

Kochi in deep trouble here.
20:24
Scorecard:

It is Jayawardene's bread and butter shot, the nurdle past fine leg. But he messed it up big time, beaten for turn, and had moved across the stumps, leaving the leg stump exposed.

Big blow for Kochi.
20:19
Scorecard:

VVS, never the fastest of the runners, gets caught out by a yard.

The way these two played before the wicket was a joy to watch, they were like pick pocket artists -- Rajasthan didnt even feel the pinch as they went to 22 in 3 overs.

Parthiv joins Mahela.
20:08
Scorecard:

In a tournament where batting first has yielded enormous returns, the wily Shane Warne has chosen to chase against Kochi at the Sawai Man Singh stadium in Jaipur, his home ground.

The old firm of Jayawardene and VVS Laxman are opening for Kochi. What would one give to see both of them click in the shortest format together?

They have eased to 11/0 in 2 overs.

19:25
Scorecard:

That's the end of it.

The Deccan chase was never on, as they stuttered from the begining on the face of some disciplined bowling by Mumbai and astute captaincy from Sachin in shuffling his bowlers.

He used Malinga especially well, bringing him on in the sixth over, and using him in spurts to get the crucial wickets.

See you in 30 minutes for the next match -- Kochi vs Rajasthan.
19:10
Scorecard:

Malinga shifted the gears down to lob a slow full toss, and Ravi Teja, probably expecting a scorching yorker, tries to play it away late, only to feather a leading edge back to the bowler.

Match virtually over.
19:03
Scorecard:

Davy Jacobs exhibited a dismissal pioneered by Alec Stewart, and perfected by the likes of Sangakkara and others -- Waiting for the batsman on the forward stride to take his back foot in the air while attempting to get back.

Christian took a huge forward stride and Jacobs, stopped for a fraction to take off the bails as the batsman attempted to slide his foot back.

18:55
Scorecard:

If Deccan were to make a fist of this chase, Sanga had to take on his compatriot, Malinga.

In the first ball, Malinga almost took out Sanga's leg stump, as the Deccan skipper brought down his bat in time to keep it away.

It was obvious that Sanga's plan was to back away and make room to get Malinga's missiles away on the off side.

But Malinga responded in style, and Sanga's dismissal was straight out of baseball.

Sanga backed away again, and Malinga came up with a curveball, Sanga missed and his middle and off disappeared.
18:48
Scorecard:

Danny Christian releases some pressure with a clean hit over midwicket.

Deccan are well poised at the cusp of a revival here, with 10 runs coming off that over.
18:43
Scorecard:

As his colleagues have been throwing their wickets away around him, Sanga has coolly collected 32 off 25, with four fours. He is intent on seeing this chase through to its logical conclusion. Someone needs to hang around and keep him company.
18:36
Scorecard:

Sachin has shuffled his bowlers well, and Pollard delivers this time, taking out the talented Chipli in a soft dismissal -- bad ball, short and wide, and slashed to backward point.
18:23
Scorecard:

Sachin has been rotating his bowlers well, and Deccan have struggled to get into their stride.

Sangakkara has been soldiering on alone, and Cameron White, who did not look comfortable at all, hit one to Malinga at mid off and ran on, to be caught with a direct hit.

Suicide
18:13
Scorecard:

Malinga was intruduced as late as the sixth over, and he strikes on cue, uprooting Dhawan's leg stump!

17:57
Scorecard:

It was a suicidal run out!

dhawan hit one to pollard's right on the edge of the ring, and called Sohal for a quick single.

Pollard got rid of it in a flash, and the bails were off with Sohal short of his ground.

First blood has been drawn.
17:44
Scorecard:

Deccan will think they gave away at least 20 more, but can they make up for it with the bat?

Remember, Mumbai have Malinga, and he has been mostly unplayable this season so far.

17:39
Scorecard:

Symo set the tempo in the 19th off Steyn, and Rohit responded in splendid fashion, carting Daniel Christian for three sixes -- over long off, and on the leg side twice.

From nowhere, these two have taken Mumbai to 172 in 20 overs; remember they were reduced to 70/4 in 9 overs. These two added 122 in 10.5 overs.

The last two overs cost 40 runs, and might well make the difference in this match.
17:26
Scorecard:

Thwack! Boom! Crash!

That's how Symo went in this over against Steyn, as he crashed a four through mid-off and covers, then swatted him for a six over long on, a two through point, and a four through covers, before Steyn recovered to bowl a dot wide off the off stump and finished it off with a yorker.
17:22
Scorecard:

Ishant delivers a great over under the circumstances.

Symo creamed him through the covers for a four early on, but he came back well, cramping the big Aussie for room.
17:18
Scorecard:

Symo has been extremely rational here, and taps it around along with Rohit to take 10 runs off Steyn's comeback over.

Into the last three overs, standby for a Symo Special here.
17:08
Scorecard:

Rohit Sharma and Symonds have set this up nicely for the final assault.

How many overs are they going to tap it around before exploding?

Symo has shown glimpses of what may be in store with a brutal slap four already.

16:59
Scorecard:

Andrew Symonds is out in the middle with Rohit Sharma, and the two have played it safe, eschewing all risk.

Sanga is getting the most out of his spinners, and rushing through the overs.

16:45
Scorecard:

Mumbai have lost 3 wickets for one run in seven balls now!

Pollard feathers a ball, popping it on the leg side and Sanga makes no mistake.

Mumbai are imploding here against the spinners
16:43
Scorecard:

Can't figure out what the team management spoke about in the time out, but Rayudu loses his head and follows Sachin back into the hut.

He went on his knees and slog swept Mishra straight to square leg.

Pollard and Rohit Sharma at the crease. A great opportunity for these two explosive talents.
16:40
Scorecard:

After the time out, Sachin took a big stride and lofted him straight, but got too much under it, and ended up holing out to Dale Steyn.

Pollard is in.
16:34
Scorecard:

Tendulkar has been carrying on from where Jacobs left, and has held the run rate steadily at 9 an over.

Rayudu is settling down, and these two are unhurried in putting together a partnership.
16:23
Scorecard:

Rarely does Sachin stand by and admire his opening partner, but that is what is happening today, as Jacobs has been plundering two digit over after over.

Daniel Christian's pace was clearly not bothering him, and he stepped aside to cream him through point for his first four. A full toss was duly swatted past the bowler for the second four.

But in the next over, Ishant got one to climb on him, and he mistimed the pull and skied it.

16:16
Scorecard:

Ishant, on in the fourth over, started well, but unraveled towards the end of the over, and as pitched too full and too short, Jacobs thumped him through the covers and then pulled him away for consecutive fours.

16:12
Scorecard:

Jacobs comes down the wicket to swing hard like a golfer and send Ojha into orbit.

First six of the innings, and Mumbai have gone to 25/0 in no time.
16:06
Scorecard:

Kumar Sangakkara won the toss and elected to field on a nice hard wicket.

Sachin and Davy Jacobs open for Mumbai.

Steyn in on in the second over.
