Timeline  Refresh

21:47
Live scorecard:

When the ninth wicket fell it seemed West Indies would be bowled out for less than Sehwag's individual score. In the end the visitors managed 46 more.

Ramdin (96) and Narine (27 not out) put on a run-a-ball 64 runs for the final wicket to frustrate the home team.

Ramdin fell four short of what would have been a deserving hundred, becoming Raina's second victim in the second ball of the final over.

West Indies was eventually bowled out for 265, giving the home team a fairly comprehensive 153-run win.

India pocket the five-match series 3-1 as a result.

21:39
Live scorecard:

Kemar Roach (7) becomes Jadeja's 50th ODI victim.

However, Ramdin and Sunil Narine put on a 50-plus stand for the final wicket.

West Indies 256 for nine after 48 overs.

21:08
Live scorecard:

Two boundaries in Ashwin's eighth over help Denesh Ramdin complete his third ODI fifty, his second against India.

The 26-year-old's innings has come against the run of play.

West Indies 196 for eight after 38 overs.
20:53
Live scorecard:

Jadeja gets a second wicket in the form of Rampaul (10), the latter caught by substitute Manoj Tiwary at long-on.

West Indies have been reduced to 173 for eight after 34 overs.
20:26
Live scorecard:

The 19th over, bowled by Jadeja, is a maiden. Two of the spinner's four overs thus far have been maidens.

Russell (29) though has smashed three sixes off Rahul Sharma. However, Raina has him stumped just when he was looking good.

Darren Sammy (2) hits an Ashwin delivery straight to Mithun at long off.

West Indies 145 for seven after 25 overs.
20:00
Live scorecard:

Rahul Sharma has made an impressive debut here.

Following his maiden wicket (Samuels), he has also cleaned up Danza Hyatt (11) and Kieron Pollard (3).

West Indies in tatters at 112 for five after 18 overs.
19:31
Live scorecard:

Now this is a big blow for the West Indies.

Simmons, who played so well for his 36, is caught behind off Jadeja.

His 35-ball knock was inclusive of six boundaries and a maximum and he put on 50 runs (in 45 balls) for the second wicket with Samuels.

Danza Hyatt comes out to bat. Mithun's second over is an expensive one, 15 runs coming off it with Samuels hitting two sixes.

Debutant Rahul Sharma is handed the ball in the 12th over. He concedes just two runs before claiming an important wicket in his final ball, one that clips Samuels' (33) stumps.

West Indies 81 for three after 12 overs.
19:18

The highest total West Indies has ever chased is 300 against South Africa at Centurion. This one, therefore, is an impossible ask especially considering they have lost an early wicket.

Simmons though is batting positively. First he smashes Ashwin for a maximum over long-on and then hits Vinay Kumar for three successive boundaries.

Windies reach the 50-run mark in the seventh over courtesy, Simmons' fifth boundary.

However, a Jadeja maiden first up slows things down a bit.

West Indies 59 for one after nine overs.
18:52

Kieran Powell and Lendl Simmons open the batting for West Indies. It is R Vinay Kumar for India first up. Six runs come off the open over, with Simmons hitting a boundary off the final ball.

R Ashwin shares the new ball and Powell welcomes him with a boundary. seven runs come off the second over before Powell is run out.

18:14

India eventually manage 418 for five in their stipulated 50 overs.

It is the highest ever total achieved on Indian soil.

Captain Virender Sehwag leads from the front with a spectacular 219, the highest ODI score ever.

Virat Kohli (23 not out) and Parthiv Patel (3 not out) put on 25 runs in just two overs in an unbroken sixth wicket stand to help India to the record total.

For West Indies it is already a lost cause.
18:10

Roach rattles Rohit Sharma's (27) stumps in the 48th over, after the batsman hit for 11 runs in the over.

India has gone past the 400-run mark for the first time in history.

The team has made 407 for five after 49 overs.
17:59
Live scorecard:

Sehwag is finally dismissed!

For 219. He is caught by Martin off Pollard.

His 149-ball knock was inclusive of 25 hits to the fence and seven over it.

India 381 for four after 47 overs.
17:49
Live scorecard:

Sehwag has also completed 8,000 ODI runs in the process.

His 210 not out is the highest ever score in ODIs.

India 360 for three after 45 overs.

17:44
Live scorecard:

A boundary off Russell helps Sehwag reach his maiden double hundred in ODIs. He has managed to score the runs off just 140 balls.

The stand-in captain becomes only the second player ever, after compatriot Sachin Tendulkar, to register an ODI double. The Master Blaster had made 200 not out against South Africa in Gwalior last year.

However, the home team has lost Ravindra Jadeja (10), caught by Rampaul off Russell.

India 347 for three after 44 overs.
17:29
Live scorecard:

One more run out.

On this occasion it is Suresh Raina. The left-hander's 44-ball 55 was inclusive of six hits to the fence and his second wicket partnership with Sehwag yielded 140 runs for India.

Ravindra Jadeja comes out to bat.

The home team has made 323 for two after 41 overs.
17:24
Live scorecard:

India has now crossed the 300-run mark in the 40th over.

The second wicket partnership between Sehwag and Raina is worth 130.

The latter reaches his 20th ODI fifty, his first against West Indies, with a single off Rampaul.

India 311 for one after 40 overs.

16:50
Live scorecard:

A single by Sehwag (off Narine) helps raise the 50-run partnership for the second wicket. The Indian captain and Raina have combined well, scoring at more than a run-a-ball.

A boundary by Sehwag (off Samuels) helps India get past the 250-run amrk.

India 255 for one after 34 overs.
16:30
Live scorecard:

Suresh Raina has been promoted up the order, to No.3, to get some much-needed batting practice.

The left-hander has been pretty much off colour off late and this is an opportunity for him no doubt.

Rampaul, the best bowler thus far, is back into the attack replacing Pollard (3-0-26-0). However, Raina hits him for successive boundaries to help take his team's score past the 200-run mark.

India 210 for one after 28 overs.
16:11
Live scorecard:

Sehwag completes his 15th ODI ton with a boundary off Pollard. It is his second ODI century against West Indies.

But before he can celebrate, West Indies find their first breakthrough in the next over.

Gautam Gambhir (67) is run out courtesy a direct hit by Samuels, thereby ending a 176-run stand for the opening wicket.

India 176 for one after 23 overs.
16:03
Live scorecard:

So we are back after the drinks break.

Sehwag smashes the first two balls he faces, off Roach, to the fence. For those interested in numbers, Sehwag's fifty today is his highest ODI score as captain.

With all West Indies bowlers being hit round the park, Sammy has run out of options. The disgust is writ large on his otherwise smiling face.

Kieron Pollard comes out to bowl in the 21st over, replacing Russell (4-0-33-0). Sehwag welcomes him with a second-ball six over long-on.

India 163 without loss after 21 overs.
15:43
Live scorecard:

Roach replaces his expensive skipper (2-0-21-0) in the 16th over and Gambhir welcomes him back with a boundary past point.

A single off the next ball helps Gambhir reach his 28th ODI fifty. It is his first notable contribution in this series.

Narine (3-0-23-0) has been expensive today. Sammy replaces him with Russell in the 17th over. No respite for the West Indies captain though as Sehwag slams him for a boundary over extra cover.

India 123 without loss after 17 overs.
15:32
Live scorecard:

The idea of having Gambhir open the innings has worked well for Team India. The West Indies bowlers have so far struggled to find a breakthrough.

Sunil Narine replaces Russell (2-0-16-0) in the attack in the 11th over and Sehwag welcomes him with a six over long-on.

Sammy comes in place of Rampaul (5-0-24-0) in the 12th and faces a similar treatment from the Indian captain, albeit over long-off.

Sehwag completes his 38th ODI fifty with a six off Narine. It has come in quick time, just 41 balls.

India 108 without loss after 15 overs.
15:07
Live scorecard:

Roach's second over has Sehwag using an upper cut to get a maximum. The bowler's third over is an expensive one with 13 runs coming off it, including a couple of boundaries from Gambhir.

Gambhir, slowly but surely, is finding his touch. He has not been among runs in this series. Andre Russell is handed the ball in the seventh over, replacing an expensive Roach (3-0-23-0).

He drops Gambhir off his own bowling in the over. The batsman helps himself to a couple of boundaries in the over.

A boundary by Sehwag in Russell's second over helps bring the 50-run partnership for the opening wicket.

India 54 without loss after nine overs.
14:38
Live scorecard:

So Gautam Gambhir and Virender Sehwag open the batting for India this time.

It is Kemar Roach first up for West Indies. Two runs come off the opening over.

Rampaul shares the new ball and Sehwag welcomes him with a boundary, courtesy a blemish by Danza Hyatt.

India seven without loss after two overs.
14:23
Live scorecard:

There is one change in each team.

Rahul Sharma comes in place of Umesh Yadav. That means Irfan Pathan will have to wait more for his chance.

For West Indies, there is Kieran Powell coming in place of Darren Bravo.

14:04
