India beat West Indies by 34 runs

A brilliant catch from Ajinkya Rahane at the boundary ropes meant that India beat West Indies by 34 runs to wrap the series 4-1.

 

Kieron Pollard was the last man out as he was caught off the bowling off Suresh Raina after a brilliant 119 with four boundaries and 10 sixes.

 

Jadeja was the most successful bowler in terms of wicket with figues of 3-62.

Kieron Pollard stroked a brilliant maiden 98-ball hundred to keep Windies hope alive after early wickets put the visitors almost out of the contest.

 

He reached the landmark with a boundary -- which ideally should have been the end of the game -- but was dropped by Virat Kohli as the ball rolled on to the boundary.

 

But a brilliant counter attacking cricket from Pollard and Andre Russell have brought West Indies from the dead to make a match out of it.

 

West Indies were 224-9 after 43 overs

Andre Russell and Kieron Pollard were matching each other shot by shot before an unneccary run out gave India the much-needed breakthrough.

 

Pollard dabs one to third man and sees Russell charging towards him. Gambhir finally manages to get one in his hand and hit the stumps directly to send Russell back after a well-made 53.

 

Couple of overs later it was skipper Darren Sammy's turn to make the long walk back to the pavillion after he edged one to Ajinkya Rahane behind point.

 

West Indies were 182-7 after 32 overs. Pollard is on 76, while Sunil Naraine is on one.

A superb 45 ball 50 from Kieron Pollard is keeping West Indies in the hunt for now.

 

The big batsman has been critical on spinner -- especially Ravindra Jadeja as he hit four massive sixes along with three boundaries.

 

West Indies were reeling at 78-5, before Pollard started to use his long handle to good effect. He has got an ably ally in the form of Andre Russell, who too has been getting the odd boundary in the between.

 

West Indies were 123-5 after 23 overs. Pollard is on 52, while Russell is on 24.

Kieron Pollard is living up to his big hitting reputation as he smashes a huge six off Ravindra Jadeja.

 

Jadeja pushed one flatter as Pollard just reached for it and smashes it over the bowlers head for a maximum -- which lands on the roof of Chepauk stadium.

 

Couple of balls later, Jadeja gets his first wicket as he sends in-form Denesh Ramdin back to the pavillion after he was trapped in front of the stumps for 14.

 

Earlier, Indian new ball bowlers rocked West Indies early with four quick wickets.

 

West Indies were 79-5 after 16 overs. Pollard is on 32, while Andre Russell is yet to open his account.

After Pathan picked up the openers it was time for Marlon Samuels to make the long walk back the pavillion after he was given caught behind by umpire Sudhir Asnani.

 

Mithun bowls a delivery that bounces a bit more -- a loud appeal from Parthiv Patel behind the stumps -- not much from the bowler -- but umpire raises the finger in affirmation, much to the delight of the bowler.

 

Samuels can't believe it...he got a rough one this time.

 

West Indies 33-3 after six overs.

After removing Lendl Simmons in the first over, Irfan Pathan now has the other opener Kieron Powell walking back to the pavillion after he played one back onto his stumps.

 

A good length ball as the left0hander went for a punch through the off-side, but the ball kept a bit low, eventually taking an inside edge.

 

West Indies were 29-2 after five overs.

Irfan Pathan on his comeback strikes off the first ball as he traps Lendl Simmons in front of the stumps.

 

Trademark inswinger to the right-hnded batsman as replays show that the ball would have clipped the leg-stump.

 

West Indies were 4-1 after first over.

Riding high on a brilliant century from Manoj Tiwary and a brilliant 80 from Virat Kohli, India have posted a competitive 267-6 in their stipulated 50 overs.

 

India were struggling in the opening over, losing two quick wickets after Kemar Roach removed opener Ajinkya Rahane and Parthiv Patel off successive balls.

 

But then Gautam Gambhir alongwith Tiwary steadied the innings and then Kohli joined in to up the tempo for India.

 

Tiwary managed 104, before he had retire due to cramps. West Indies bowlers struggled on a slow pitch as Anthony Martins was the most successful bowlers with figues of 2-47 off his 10 overs.

Virat Kohli looking to push on with the scoring fell 20 runs short of his century after he was caught in the deep by Marlon Samules off Martins.

 

India riding high in cnetury from Manoj Tiwary and well made 80 from Kohli will look set for another 300-plus score.

 

At the end of 46 overs India were 244-4. Rohit Sharma is on 17 alongwith Suresh Raina, who is on one.

Manoj Tiwary struck a brilliant 125-ball century to put India in firm control of the match against West Indies in Chennai.

 

He reached the landmark with a boundary off Suni Naraine, with 10 boundaries and one six.

 

He however had to walk off the pitch due to cramps.

Tiwary, first with Gambhir weathered the early storm, putting a 83 run stand for third wicket, then with Virat Kohli combined well to put on a century stand for the fourth wicket.

 

Kohli too stroked his way to another half-century as West Indies bowlers struggled on a slow pitch.

 

India were 202-3 after 38 overs, Virat Kohli is 56 and he is joined in by Rohit Sharma, who is yet to open his account.

Manoj Tiwary making full use of the opportunity as he is leading India's charge with a well-deserved half century.

 

West Indies bowlers have struggled on a slow pitch, and Tiwary has played sensibly -- first putting on 83 run stand with Gautam Gambhir and then stitching another half-century stand with Virat Kohli to put India in control.

 

At the end 28 overs, India were 134-3. Tiwary is on75, while Kohli is on 20.

Anthony Martins provided the much-needed breakthrough for West Indies as he trapped Gautam Gambhir plumb in front of stumps.

 

Gambhir went on a backfoot to a delivery, which spun back, and hit him on the front leg. Loud appeal follows and umpire Tony Hill raises the finger in affirmation.

 

Earlier Manoj Tiwary and Gambhir steadied India after two quick wickets in the opening over. the duo mixed caution and aggression as they put on a 83-run stand for third wicket.

 

Meanwhile, Tiwary reached his half-century as he took a single off Marlon Samuels.

 

India at the end of 20 overs were 90-3. Tiwary is on 51 alongwith Virat Kohli who is on three.

Stand-in skipper Gautam Gambhir and Manoj Tiwary have steadies Indian innings after Kemar Roach twin blow crippled India.

 

Kemar Roach in his first over first removed Ajinkya Rahane and Parthiv Patel off consecutive balls to give West Indies the mometum.

 

But Gambhir and Tiwary have weathered the early storm and are now playing more freely now.

 

India at the end of seventh over were 38-2. Tiwary is on 16, Gambhir is on 19.

A golden duck for the opener as he was trapped plumb in front of the stumps.

 

Next up, he sends Parthiv back in the hut, after he played one back onto the stumps.

 

Roach on a hattrick as Manoj Tiwary walks in. Tiwary manages to avoid the hattrick.

Gautam Gambhir has won the toss and elected to bat first in the final One-day between India and West Indies in Chennai.

 

India have made two changes to the side that played in Indore on Thursday. Sehwag, after the brilliant double century, earned a well-deserved break, while R Ashwin too has been rested.

Irfan Pathan comes in along with Ajinkya Rahane.

West Indies too have made two changes to their side, with Ravi Rampaul and Danza Hyatt sitting out. Anthony Martin and Jason Mohammad get their first game of the series.
