Harbhajan, Chawla take India to victory

21:54   India win warm-up match by 38 runs

Australia were bowled out for 176 in 37.5 overs to lose the warm-up match against India by 38 runs.

Brett Lee was the final wicket to fall when he was bowled by R Ashwin for one.

Piyush Chawla caused the maximum damage with the ball as he claimed four for 37 in nine overs, while Harbhajan Singh took three for 15 in five overs, as the Indian spinners took nine wickets among them.

Ricky Ponting was the top-scorer for the visitors as he made 57, but the rest of the batsmen came undone against the Indian spinners.

This will come as a big shock for Australia, who were unbeaten in the previous two World Cup tournaments.

India will next take on New Zealand in their second warm-up match in Chennai on Wednesday. The World Cup begins in Dhaka on February 19 with India taking on Bangladesh in the opening match.

Piyush Chawla took four wickets and Harbhajan Singh claimed three to script India's remarkable comeback and put their team on the verge of victory against Australia.

Mitchell Johnson tried to hit Australia out of trouble as he danced down the wicket to Ashwin and lofted him over midwicket for a six, in the 36th over.

But in the next over, he was stumped off Harbhajan for 15 as he attempted another big hit down the ground. The off-spinner then trapped Jason Krejza leg before wicket for a duck as Australia lost their ninth wicket.

Led by Piyush Chawla's four-wicket haul, India launched a superb fightback to gain the upperhand against Australia.

Australia were reduced to 166 for seven in the 35th over after Ricky Ponting was stumped off Harbhajan Singh for 57.

Earlier, Chawla triggered a middle order collapse as he took four for 31 in nine overs.

Leg-spinner Piyush Chawla claimed four wickets to lead's India's superb fightback against Australia.

Ricky Ponting stroked a fluent half-century as he hit 51 from 74 balls, but wickets kept tumbling from the other end. The visitors lost five wickets for 30 runs in the space of nine overs to lose the initiative after a good start.

Chawla got Calum Ferguson caught at first slip for eight, while Cameron White was caught at mid-on for four and off the very next delivery he had David Hussey stumped.

India claimed two quick wickets to give themselves hope of making a comeback in the warm-up match against Australia.

Michael Clarke was the third wicket to fall when he inside edged Chawla back on to his stumps to be bowled for a four-ball duck.

In the previous over, Paine, who made 37, was caught at wide long-on off part-time spinner Yuvraj.

Yuvraj Singh provided India some relief when he claimed the wicket of Tim Paine for 37 after Australia had made a good start in the warm-up match.

Paine added 67 runs for the second wicket in 83 balls for the second wicket with captain Ricky Ponting, who was unbeaten on 36.

Paine tried to loft Yuvraj on the leg side but was caught by Munaf Patel, running to his right on the long-on boundary.

After 22 overs, Australia were comfortably placed at 118 for two, needing another 96 runs from 28 overs for victory.
19:58   India's bowlers look clueless

World champions Australia looked in complete control as they reached 103 for one in 18 overs following a flying start as Indian bowlers seemed completely clueless.

Ricky Ponting had a few nervy moments at the start before he stroked 31 from 35 balls, while Tim Paine made 31 from 47 balls.

Earlier, Watson slammed 33 from 26 balls, before he was caught at mid-off off Sreesanth, who bowled an impressive first spell of one for 21 in five overs.

Surprisingly, India kept back Harbhajan Singh and even bought Yuvraj Singh ahead of him into the bowling attack.

India managed to pull back Australia somewhat by restricting their scoring rate after the wicket of Shane Watson.

Australia managed to score just 18 runs in five overs of the Bowling Powerplay.

Piyush Chawla and R Ashwin, who were getting a bit of turn, started off well as they look to stifle the two Aussie batsmen.
19:32   Ponting-Sreesanth clash


India introduced spin early, by bringing in R Ashwin in the eighth over with Australia on 52 for one.

Ricky Ponting was lucky when his inside edge just missed the stumps and also went past wicketkeeper Dhoni for a four. A few deliveries later, he got an outside edge that went into the thirdman boundary for another four, while he flicked the next ball for a cracking boundary through the midwicket region.

Sreesanth then had a few clashes with Ponting in his fifth over. He beat him with a perfect outswinger and had his appeal turned down for caught behind, before the duo exchanged a few words.

Australia raced to 67 for one in ten overs, needing another 148 runs from 40 overs for victory.
19:19   Aus lose first wicket

There was no stopping Watson, whatever India tried. He guided one through the vacant thirdman region and then unleashed a powerful cut shot for a couple of boundaries off Munaf, in the seventh over.

Watson raced to 33 from 22 balls, with the help of seven fours, while Paine on 17 from 20 balls.

But Sreesanth cut short his stay, when he had Watson caught at mid-off for 33, after he added 51 runs from 47 balls for the opening wicket with Paine.


19:10   Indian pacers struggle

India didn't help themselves in the field either. Ashish Nehra let one go through his legs in the cover region to gift Watson an easy boundary, who then lofted Munaf Patel down the ground for another four, in the fifth over.

In the same over, R Ashwin failed to complete a difficult catch, diving to his left at mid-on to give Watson another boundary as Australia raced to 35 after five overs.

The Indians looked a jaded unit out in the middle. Paine cut a short delivery from Sreesanth through the point region to bring up another boundary as the visitors started to take control.

S Sreesanth bowled an excellent first over to Tim Paine and even got an outside edge, which flew past the second slip for a four.

The Aussie opener then drove Nehra through the covers for his second boundary, in the next over.

Meanwhile, Sreesanth continued to trouble him with his late movement. But on the one occasion that he overpitched, Paine stroked him through the midwicket for another four.
18:46   Watson starts off positively

Shane Watson got Australia off to a flying start as he hit Ashish Nehra for two back to boundaries off the first two deliveries of the innings.

They are chasing a modest 215 for victory.

18:13   Lee shines with the ball

Brett Lee was back to his best as he claimed three for 35 to bundle out India for 214 in 44.3 overs in a warm-up match of the 2011 World Cup, at the M Chinnaswamy stadium in Bangalore, on Sunday.

Only Virender Sehwag managed to get a measure of the Aussie pacers with a brisk 54 from 56 balls, having hit eight fours and a six.

Yusuf Pathan made 32 from 39 balls but the other batsmen failed to carry on after getting off to a good start.

Ashish Nehra was the last wicket to fall when he pulled a short delivery from Hussey straight into the hands of the fielder on the square leg boundary to be dismissed for 19.

R Ashwin was left stranded on a good knock of 25 from 46 balls, having hit two fours.

John Hastings also impressed with the ball as he took two for 24 in six overs, while part-timer Hussey claimed two for 25.

Part-timer David Hussey thwarted India's hopes of a comeback when he claimed the wicket of Yusuf Pathan.

Pathan cut loose after a slow start as he blasted Hussey for two sixes in his first over. But the part-timer had his revenge when he got Pathan caught on the square leg fence for 32 from 39 balls.

Virender Sehwag was the only Indian batsmen to hit a fifty as he stroked 54 from 56 balls, but the rest of the batsmen failed to get going.

Yusuf Pathan looks to make most off a free hit but is caught on the midwicket boundary as he pulled a short delivery from Lee, in the 32nd over.

Pathan is yet to hit a boundary from 27 balls he has faced so far, while R Ashwin got his first four off the 13th ball he faced.

Pathan (13) got a lifeline when his edge off Johnson was dropped by a diving Watson at first slip, in the 35th over. In the same over, Ashwin flicked Johnson through midwicket for his second four.



17:04   India lose quick wickets
India 138-8 (30 ovs)

Brett Lee put Australia in command with a three-wicket burst to leave India in tatters in the World Cup warm-up match.

Lee took three wickets in the space of nine deliveries to leave India crippling at 138-8 in 30 overs.

Suresh Raina was caught behind for 12 as he edged an outgoing delivery. Harbhajan Singh was bowled by a fast full delivery for four, while Piyush Chawla was bowled off an inside edge for a duck.

World champions Australia continued chipping away at the wickets to leave India in trouble at 132 for seven, having lost their last four wickets for 35 runs.

Brett Lee caused the damage in his second spell, when he got the wicket of Suresh Raina and Harbhajan Singh in his seventh over.

Raina threw his wicket away for 12 as he flirted at an outgoing delivery from Lee only to edge it behind to the wicketkeeper.

Harbhajan Singh got lucky when his inside edge off Lee just went past the stumps for a boundary through fine leg. But Lee shattered Harbhajan's stumps off the next delivery with a fast full delivery.
16:41   Raina, Pathan look to steady India
India 132-5 (27 ovs)

Australia keen not to let Yusuf Pathan get settled as they bring Lee back into the attack. The pacer rattles Yusuf with a quick bouncer that hits him on the gloves as he tries to evasive action, in the 24th over.

At the halfway stage, India struggling on 122 for five with new batsmen Raina and Pathan at the crease.

Raina gets his first boundary when he plays a rather ugly sweep against Krejza, in the 27th over.

Australia trying to unsettle both Raina and Pathan with quick short deliveries directed at their bodies.
16:25   Krejza gets the wicket of Sehwag
India 113-5 (23 ovs)

Suresh Raina gets an early wake-up call as Hastings peppers him with short deliveries, which the left-hander manages to evade.

This is a make or break innings for Raina, who is fighting for a spot in the ODI team along with Virat Kohli and Yusuf Pathan.

In the next over, Sehwag brought up his fifty off 55 balls in some style when he lofted Krejza over mid-off for the first six of the match. However, off the next delivery Krejza got his revenge when Sehwag dragged one back on to his stumps to leave India in trouble at 113 for five.
16:14   Dhoni out for 11
India 101-4 (21.4 ovs)

India are dealt another big blow as the impressive John Hastings claims his second wicket.

Hastings, bowling an extended spell, is rewarded with another wicket in his sixth over. The medium pacer bowls Dhoni for 11 courtesy of an inside edge.


16:07   Sehwag looking to attack
India 96-3 (20 ovs)

After a steady start, Sehwag looking to cut loose. He went after Krejza as he hit for two boundaries in his second over, on either side of the short thirdman fielder, in the 19th over.

Dhoni gets his first boundary as he drives Hastings through the packed off-side field, in the next over.

16:00   Sehwag steady after nervous start
India 82-3 (18 ovs)

Virender Sehwag seemed intent on spending time at the wicket as treated the bowling with respect and didn't look to attack the bowlers. Meanwhile, Mahendra Singh Dhoni, on one, got a reprieve when he was sent back by Sehwag but the direct throw once again missed the stumps at the non-striker's end in the 16th over.

Johnson's struggle continued as he yet again bowled a wide down the leg side away from the wicketkeeper for a boundary.

In the next over, Sehwag went after a wide delivery but got a thick edge that went for a boundary behind the wickets.



15:42   Yuvraj falls to short delivery
India 63-3 (14.3)

John Hastings is taken off the attack after taking the wicket of Kohli in his previous over. Australia introduce Jason Krejza into the attack against Sehwag in the 14th over, with one over of the Bowling Powerplay still left.

Sehwag needs no second invitation when Krejza dropped it short as he cuts him through point for his fifth four.

Mitchell Johnson then claimed the third wicket when he got Yuvraj Singh caught behind for one. Yuvraj was stunned by a quick short delivery from Johnson and could only glove it to be caught behind the wickets for one.



15:28   Hastings claims wicket
India 54-2 (11.4)

John Hastings got his wicket of the match when he claimed the wicket of Virat Kohli for 21. The youngster, who hit three fours in 33-ball knock, hit a short delivery straight to David Hussey at point.


15:20   Kohli confident, Sehwag gets lucky
India 50-1 (10 ovs)

Virat Kohli growing in confidence with every passing over. He drives Bollinger for a boundary down the ground, his third of the innings.

Meanwhile, Sehwag continues to live a charmed life. He tries to cut Bollinger but his edge flies over wicketkeeper Tim Paine for a boundary behind the wickets, in the eighth over.

Mitchell Johnson introduced into the attack tests Virender Sehwag with a good short delivery directed at his boundary.

John Hastings comes into the attack in the 10th over. He has a huge appeal for leg before wicket against Kohli turned down as he got one to come in sharply. Sehwag finally breaks loose when he lofts the medium pacer over the covers for a four to take India past the 50-run mark.

Virat Kohli gets his second four when he flicked a full delivery from Doug Bollinger through midwicket, in the sixth over.

In the next over, Sehwag, without any real footwork, drives Lee through the covers for his second four.


14:54   Sehwag gets a lifeline
India 20-1 (5 ovs)

The in-form Virat Kohli makes Lee pay for erring with his line and length as he eases one through the covers for his first four.

Sehwag (4) gets a lifeline as he attempts a quick run but is sent back by Kohli. Ponting, fielding at mid-on, attempts to run him out by the direct hit misses the stumps narrowly.
14:48   Bollinger makes first breakthrough
India 14-1 (4 overs)

Doug Bollinger provided Australia with the first breakthrough when he claimed the wicket of Gautam Gambhir.

The left-hander, who made six from 15 balls, was caught in the slips by Cameron White as he edged an outgoing delivery.

Bollinger then bowled another cracker of a delivery and was unlucky not to get the edge when he beat Virat Kohli all ends up with the outgoing delivery.

Brett Lee starts off well with a maiden over against Gautam Gambhir. The left-hander was lucky to not get an edge when he tried to have a go at a wide delivery.

14:28   India hope to start off with a win
Australia, who have won the last three World Cups, would be hoping to get off to a winning start in the warm-up match against India.

The Aussies are sporting bright yellow jerseys, while India are in their traditional blue jerseys.

Australia are on a high, having thrashed England 6-1 in the last ODI series, while India were beaten 2-3 by South Africa.

14:14   Tendulkar, Zaheer rested
India captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni won the toss and elected to bat against Australia in a warm-up match of the 2011 World Cup at the M Chinnaswamy stadium in Bangalore, on Sunday.

Both the teams would be looking to give all their players a look-in ahead of the World Cup.

India named 13 players for the match, leaving out Sachin Tendulkar and Zaheer Khan, while Australia will test their full 15-member squad.

The World Cup begins on February 19 with India taking on Bangladesh in Dhaka in the opener.
