Abhinav Mukund (0) was the lone wicket to fall, caught by Pietersen at gully off the first ball of the innings bowled by Anderson.

22:49

Tim Bresnan is introduced into the attack in the 11th over, replacing Anderson (5-2-10-1).

In the last innings he bowled, against Australia, Bresnan had a fiver. One here would certainly help England's cause.

India 16 for one after 12 overs.
22:23

Stuart Broad to bowl with the new ball, from the Pavilion End.

A leg bye off Anderson ensures the first runs on the Indian board, in the 15th ball.

A boundary by Dravid off the last ball of Anderson's third over (fifth overall) ensures the first runs off the bat for India.

The visitors have made seven for one after six overs.
22:03
Live Scorecard:

Abhinav Mukund and Rahul Dravid come out to open the innings for India. And it will be James Anderson bowling first up for England.

He strikes first ball, having Mukund caught by Pietersen.

VVS Laxman comes in to bat.

21:51
Live Scorecard:

Broad's resistance has finally ended, with Harbhajan having him caught by Tendulkar.

The 25-year-old made 64, his 66-ball innings comprising of nine fours.

England bowled out 221 (68.4 overs).
21:37
Live Scorecard:

The Broad-Swann combine put together 73 runs (in just 70 balls) for the ninth wicket.

A single from Broad (off Ishant) helps England reach the 200-run mark. And a boundary off Kumar helps him reach his fifty.

It was his eighth Test fifty, his second in succession, after his unbeaten 74 at Lord's.

His aggression has re-energized the English supporters.

England 208 for nine after 66 overs.
21:21

The 50-partnership for the ninth wicket is achieved of just 42 balls. The best partnership of the England innings this.

Mukund puts down Swann (on 23) at mid-on off Kumar. India is facing the heat here.

However, Kumar accounts for Swann (28) eventually., caught by Mukund.

England 197 for nine after 62 overs.
20:48
Live Scorecard:

Sreesanth begins after the break, conceding four runs in his opening over. It is Ishant from the other end.

Swann hits two delightful boundaries in the over. And Braod follows suit in the next Sree over.

England manage 31 in the first three overs after tea.

Dhoni is forced to introduce Harbhajan in place of Ishant (18-4-50-3) in the 55th over.

England 160 for eight.

20:11
Live Scorecard:

"A hundred for Stuart Broad today?," asks Martyn Cornish, the media manager with a smile.

We will have to wait for that. He doesn't have much support though.

And there's more trouble with Ishant having a well-settled Bell (31) caught behind.

England 124 for eight after 51 overs, having collapsed from 73 for two at tea.

20:00
Live Scorecard:

Ishant has taken another wicket, having Tim Bresnan (11) caught by Dravid at first slip.

England 117 for seven in 49 overs.
19:48
Live Scorecard:

Ishant is back into the attack, replacing Sreesanth (12-1-37-3) in the 42nd over.

Bell helps himself to two boundaries in the over, one a cheeky shot that goes over the head of the slips fielder and another an exquisite shot.

Kumar is unlucky as Bell is dropped by Dravid in the first slip. The batsman had started walking ball when he noticed the blemish.

Bresnan gets off the mark with a boundary off Ishant, the shot also bringing up the English hundred. This duo have steadied the England ship a bit. It's a long road to recovery though.

England 116 for six after 47 overs.
19:16
Live Scorecard:

Matt Prior has come in to bat.

And he won't be doing what he did over two innings at Lord's. Sreesanth has him caught by Dravid at first slip for just one.

England in huge trouble at 88 for six after 40 overs.

19:01
Live Scorecard:

Having withstood problems posed by Sreesanth, Bell breaks the shackles with a crackling boundary in front of square.

However, Kumar provides India its fourth wicket, having Strauss (32) caught by Raina at third slip in the 37th over.

Another good start wasted by the England captain. The frustration having tied down - 12 balls without scoring - probably took its toll.

Three balls later, England suffer another blow when Eoin Morgan (0) is out leg before.

England 85 for five.
18:50
Live Scorecard:

Ishant bowls the second over after resumption. Ian Bell has come in to replace KP.

Sree's second over has a comic element. A leading edge from Bell falls short of the bowler. Sree claims the catch. Neither the captain nor the umpire seem interested though.

Boos from the crowd for the bowler.

Praveen Kumar comes back to replace Ishant (12-2-21-1) in the 35th over. It's a maiden from him first up.

After 35 overs, England have made 81 for three.

18:19
Live Scorecard:

Sreesanth bowls the first over lunch.

The 50-run partnership stand for the third wicket (103 balls) is achieved during the ball.

But Sree strikes with his fifth ball, having KP caught by Raina at slips.

KP was batting well. He won't be happy in the manner he got out.

England 73 for three after 28 overs.

18:07
Live Scorecard:

Harbhajan Singh comes into the attack in the 26th over, replacing Kumar (11-2-21-0), and Strauss welcomes him by smashing his first ball past the backward point for his fourth boundary.

And it is twin spin, as Yuvraj Singh comes in to replace Ishant (9-2-16-1).

KP (26) and Strauss (29) negotiate the two overs well.

England go into lunch at 69 for two (after 27 overs), a good recovery after losing two wickets for 23.
17:24
Live Scorecard:

Strauss and his predecessor KP are combining well here for the home team.

The experienced duo have put together a decent partnership for the third wicket.

And that is not very good news for India.

England 64 for two after 25 overs.
16:46

Kumar comes in to replace Sharma (6-2-10-1) after the drinks break.

Sreesanth to KP in the next over. A good contest is on the cards.

And it is KP who wins the first round, dismissing the third ball to the mid-on boundary and the fourth to the midwicket fence.

Two cracking boundaries from Pietersen then. Sree has tried two bouncers and has been hit twice to the fence.

England 40 for two after 16 overs.
16:23
Live Scorecard:

Kumar strays into the leg stump in his fifth over of the morning and Strauss ensures England's first boundary of the morning.

And in Ishant's next over, Trott gets his first boundary,

S Sreesanth comes into the attack in the 11th over, replacing Kumar (5-1-7-0).

And Strauss gets a boundary off his first ball. But he accounts for Trott (4) fourth ball, caught by Laxman at second slip.

It was the first ball Trott faced from the bowler.

England down to 24 for two after 11 overs.
15:57
Live Scorecard:

Ishant Sharma to bowl the second over. And Alastair Cook ensures the first runs on the board in the fifth ball. Strauss takes a couple off the last.

The bowling duo is going through the motions.

"That shows how much India is missing Zaheer. He would have been handy in these conditions," says Michael Holding.

And as he does, Cook survives a loud leg before shout from Kumar. However, he doesn't survive another in Ishant's next over. It is another batting failure for Cook.

The DRS saves the day for India again. The replays show the ball had hit him out of line.

Jonathan Trott survives a loud leg before shout as well.

England seven for one after six overs.
15:33
Live Scorecard:

Alastair Cook and Andrew Strauss to open the batting for England and it will be Praveen Kumar to start for India.

And it swings first ball. England fail to score with the bat in the first over. However, a wide from Kumar ensures the first run on their board

"It is a good toss to win," says Geoff Boycott. We hope so.

England have won five of the last seven Tests at this venue.
15:05
India has won the toss and elected to bowl first.

It is an expected decision from MS Dhoni taking into account the overcasr conditions.

"I believe the wicket will remain the same throughout," reasons Dhoni.

"We would have bowled first either. But I think it is a good toss to lose," says Strauss.

The visitors wring in two changes: Yuvraj Singh and S Sreesanth coming in for Gautam Gambhir and Zaheer Khan respectively.

For England there is only one change, Tim Bresnan comes in place of Chris Tremlett.
14:53
It's a nice and cloudy day.

The toss will happen in a few minutes.

Something tells me the captain who calls correctly will have a bowl first, trying to take advantage of the overcast conditions.

From an Indian perspective, more important that winning the toss would be to win the match.
