England dominate third day's play vs India

England has dominated the third day's play in the second Test against India on Sunday. 

At stumps, the home team had made 441 for six (101 overs), for an overall lead 374 runs. 

Matt Prior was batting on 64 and giving him company was Tim Bresnan (on 47), the duo having put together 102 runs for the seventh wicket.

England has lost three wickets in the space of 16 runs, with Praveen Kumar taking two of them. 

The new ball has done the trick for India. 

A boundary by Prior off Kumar helps bring the English 350. 

After 87 overs, the home team has made 357 for six, for an overall lead of 290.

And he strikes second ball, having Morgan (70) caught behind. In comes Jonathan Trott to a thunderous applause. He survives a loud leg before appeal first up.

Yuvraj has him caught by Laxman at slip. 

His 206-ball 159 was inclusive of 24 boundaries and ended a 104-run stand for the fourth wicket with Morgan.

Another a ball later helps him reach the 150-run mark. 

He has been lucky, but safe to say he deserves it.

A six off Harbhajan helps Morgan reach his third Test fifty. It is a significant innings considering he was under pressure coming into bat.

Morgan seems to have settled down well. 

Desperate for another wicket, Dhoni hands the ball to Raina in the 63rd over, replacing Kumar (21-4-66-0). The move came a cropper. 

in the final over before tea by Ishant, Praveen makes  a comical attempt at saving the ball but does so. 

With the England batsmen thinking it was four, are our of their crease thinking it was tea. The bails came off and India are appealing for a run out. 

They get it. Bell is out in the last over before lunch. 

England has reached 254 for four at tea (66 overs), for an overall lead of 187. 

Morgan is batting on 21.

England has gone past the 200-run mark. 

However, Sreesanth has finally given India the breakthrough they so desperately needed, having Pietersen caught behind. 

KP's 120-ball 63 was inclusive of seven boundaries and his third wicket stand with Bell yielded England a vital 162 runs. 

Eoin Morgan comes in to bat. He has had two ducks in his three innings so far in this series.

A single off Kumar in the 48th over has helped Pietersen reach his 24th Test fifty, his third against India. 

A drive through covers by Bell in the same over, and a misfield by Sreesanth, helped the batsman reach 98. 

A couple in Kumar's next over helps him reach that landmark.

It is his 15th Test century, his first against India and his first at the No.3 slot.

England has started on an aggressive note after lunch. 

The 150-run mark has been reached in quick time as also the 100-run partnership for the third wicket. 

India on the back foot now.

Ishant's last over (his 10th) was an expensive one with 12 runs coming off it. 

Harbhajan Singh is introduced into the attack in the 33rd over, replacing Kumar (11-2-38-0).
Bell dispatches the fourth ball to the fence. Six runs come off the offie's second over, with Bell hitting the third ball between cover and point for his 15th boundary.

Kumar comes in to replace Ishant (11-3-39-1) in the 36th over. 

A sweep off Harbhajan gives Pietersen his first boundary of the innings, in the 52nd ball he faced.

England 130 for two at lunch (after 38 overs).

Dhoni's ploy of using Yuvi to unsettle KP has backfired. 

So Kumar is back into the attack in the 29th over, replacing Yuvi (2-0-6-0). He concedes a single in the over.  However, his second is a tad expensive with Bell helping himself to seven runs, including a first ball boundary through gully.

Another boundary to fine leg off Ishant helps England get past the 100-run mark. Bell celebrates by steering the second ball past slips for another boundary. A single by KP in the same over helps reach the 50-run stand for the third wicket.

England 109 for two after 32 overs.

First bowling change takes place in the 23rd over. 

Ishant Sharma replaces Kumar (9-2-30-0).

A single by Bell off Sreesanth helps England cut down on the deficit. 

Yuvraj Singh into the attack after the drinks break (25th over). MS Dhoni's targetting Pietersen here. 

However, it is Bell who has taken advantage, helping himself to a boundary at mid-on. 

Ishant now replaces Sreesanth (9-3-23-1) at the other end. Bell hits the third man to the fine leg fence to close in on his fifty. And reaches their with his 10th four in the next ball, this time towards the vacant square leg region.

England 84 for two after 27 overs.

Another boundary by Bell, his fifth of the morning but this time off Kumar, helps bring up the 50-run partnership for the second wicket. 

Dhoni's strategy of opening the ball with two swing bowlers hasn't worked so far. However, even as we say this Sreesanth has struck. 

He has the England captain caught behind off the first ball of his fifth over of the day. Strauss made 16. 

In comes Kevin Pietersen and the first ball he faces is a jaffa, keeping outside the off.

England down to 57 for two after 20 overs, Strauss' dismissal bringing to an end a 51-run stand for the second wicket (with Bell).

The second over, bowled by Praveen Kumar, is a productive one for the home team. Strauss starts with three runs off the first ball and Bell ends by guiding the ball to the third man boundary. 

Bell helps himself to another boundary in the last ball of Sreesanth's second over, and another in his third. And Bell's fourth four of the morning, again off Sree, helps England get past the 50-run mark.

It's a bright sunny day again in Nottingham and people have come in droves to enjoy a cracking contest this Sunday.
