Timeline  Refresh

INDIA vs WI Scorecard:

Another all-round show from Yuvraj Singh helped India thrash West Indies by 80 runs in their final Group B match of the ICC World Cup in the MA Chidambaram stadium in Chennai on Sunday.

Chasing 269 runs to win, the Caribbeans could only manage 188 (in 43 overs).

Opener Devon Smith top scored with 81 while Zaheer Khan was the most successful bowler for India with figures of three for 26.

The win, India's fourth in six matches, secured them second place in the group (with nine points) and assured them a last eight encounter against three-time defending champions Australia in Motera (on March 24).

It was India's 39th ODI win against West Indies '" against 54 defeats, their fourth in seven matches in the sport's flagship event.

West Indies' loss, on the other hand, meant they finished bottom of the group and will now play Group A winners Pakistan in the quarter-final.

That's all for the day folks!

Thanks for being with us.

INDIA vs WI Scorecard:

Ramnaresh Sarwan (39) has just been dismissed, caught by Ashwin off Zaheer.

It gives Zaheer his third wicket of the innings.

Soon after, Ashwin rattles Ravi Rampual's (1) stumps to ensure India an 80 run win.

West Indies has been dismissed for 188 in 43 overs
INDIA vs WI Scorecard:

India require three more wickets to seal second spot in Group B and book a last eight date with Australia.

The run out of Darren Sammy (2) and the quick dismissal of Andre Russell (0) has doused any hopes West Indies might have harbored of an improbable win.

After 38 overs, the Windies has score 168 for seven.

INDIA vs WI Scorecard:

West Indies is collapsing like a pack of cards now.

Devon Thomas (2) has just been stumped off Yuvraj Singh.

Yuvraj has struck with the ball after his wonderful ton with the bat.

The Caribbeans have now lost three wickets in quick succession.

INDIA vs WI Scorecard:

The canine continues to entertain spectators near the boundary.

The ground staff has finally managed to get it off the ground.

However, it has done enough to distract Kieron Pollard (1).

Pollard is caught by Yusuf off Harbhajan.

And suddenly it seems a tall order for the Windies.
INDIA vs WI Scorecard:

Devon Smith and Ramnaresh Sarwan put on another 63 runs for the third wicket before Zaheer Khan rattled the former's stumps.

Smith's 97-ball 81 was inclusive of seven hits to the fence and one over it.

A dog has come onto the pitch now even as the song 'Appadu Podu' is being played loudly.

It's entertainment full on.
INDIA vs WI Scorecard:

The Chak De! title song is playing in full volume at the Chidambaram now.

The crowd id palpably ecstatic.

After all, a seemingly dangerous 57-run partnership for the second wicket has now been broken.

Darren Bravo looked quite comfortable during his short innings though, one must say.

Smith has meanwhile reached his fifth ODI fifty, his second in the World Cup.
INDIA vs WI Scorecard:

Darren Bravo (22) and Devon Smith have put together a solid 50-plus partnership for the second wicket.

The duo is scoring at almost a run-a-ball.

Ashwin's first spell figures read 8-0-36-1.

Raina, coming in to bowl in the 17th over, has accounted for Bravo, Harbhajan taking a good catch.
Raina has come in to bowl in the 17th over.
INDIA vs WI Scorecard:

Harbhajan Singh has replaced Zaheer Khan (2-0-13-0) in the sixth over.

So there is spin operating from both the ends.

However, young Kirk Edwards (17), playing in his first match, has given Bhajji a very inauspicious welcome.

The batsman has come down the track and hit over the long off for a maximum.

Ashwin appeals a leg before decision. The umpire is unmoved.

Time for a referral. And the decision goes in India's favour.

Ashwin has got India the breakthrough. Edwards walks back to the pavilion.
INDIA vs WI Scorecard:

West Indies has got off to a good start.

Chasing a competitive target, both their openers have started with a slew of boundaries.

MS Dhoni's strategy of opening the bowling with Ashwin has worked in the sense that the spinner has kept things tied down at one end.
INDIA vs WI Scorecard:

A spectacular century by Yuvraj Singh helped India post a competitive 268 in their final Group B match of the ICC World Cup against West Indies in the Chidambaram stadium in Chennai on Sunday.

Yuvraj, who has been in prime form throughout the tournament, registered his first World Cup century to almost single-handedly put India in a comfortable position.

It was the left-hander's 13th ODI century, his third against West Indies.

His 123-ball 113 was inclusive of 10 hits to the fence and two over it and took his aggregate in the tournament to 284 from six matches.

Ravi Rampaul was the most successful bowler for the Caribbeans, finishing with impressive figures of five for 51. It was the 26-year-old's first five-wicket haul in one-dayers.

That's all for now folks!

See you after the break.

INDIA vs WI Scorecard:

The Indian tail has failed to wag yet again.

From 232 for four, the team has collapsed to 268 all out.

Ravi Rampaul finishes as the wrecker-in-chief, finishing with impressive figures of five for 51.

And besides, Yuvraj and Virat, most of the other Indian batsmen have failed to deliver.
INDIA vs WI Scorecard:

Yuvraj Singh has gifted his wicket away just before the batting powerplay.

Pollard is a happy man, having caught the left-hander off his own bowling.

Yusuf Pathan (11) and Harbhajan Singh (3) have also returned to the pavilion in quick time.
INDIA vs WI Scorecard:

Suresh Raina has failed to make the opportunity count.

Playing in his first World Cup match, and enjoying the support of a vociferous crowd, Raina managed to score only four before holing out to Rampaul off Sammy.

He has been replaced at the crease by Yusuf Pathan.
INDIA vs WI Scorecard:

However, amid all the jubilation surrounding Yuvraj's ton, India lose a wicket.

Young Bishoo has got a wicket. He has had captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni (22) stumped.

Bishoo finishes with one for 48 off his 10 overs.

Dhoni and Yuvraj put together 45 runs for the fourth wicket in just 10 overs.

West Indies' keeper Devon Thomas is down. Probably the ball clipped his thumb.

A couple of minutes of stoppage and he is back on his feet.
INDIA vs WI Scorecard:

Yuvraj and MS Dhoni are now scoring at a faster rate, at more than a-run-a-ball.

Yuvi has registered his 13th ODI ton, his third against the West Indies. It is his first ton in a World Cup.

And the crowd is ecstatic. They have got their money's worth.

The left-hander has continued his good run with the bat in this tournament, while also making ample use of the reprieves offered earlier during his innings.
INDIA vs WI Scorecard:

INDIA vs WI Scorecard:

Ravi Rampaul, on for his second spell, has struck.

In his second over he cleans up Virat Kohli for his third wicket.

Virat's 76-ball 59 was inclusive of five hits to the fence and he and Yuvraj put on a valuable 122 runs for the third wicket.

INDIA vs WI Scorecard:

Yuvraj is now taking the attack to the opposition.

He is making full use of the two reprieves, courtesy Sammy.

A few overs later, his partner also reaches the milestone, with a boundary towards midwicket off Pollard.

It is Virat's 13th ODI fifty, his second against West Indies.

It is also his first significant contribution in the tournament since his unbeaten 100 against Bangladesh in the opener.

The shot also ensures the 100-run partnership for the third wicket.
INDIA vs WI Scorecard:

Successive boundaries off Bishoo help Yuvraj reach a well-deserved half century.

It is Yuvraj's 49th ODI fifty, his fifth against West Indies and his fourth in the World Cup.

He celebrates the same with successive boundaries off Benn, who has replaced Bishoo in the attack.
INDIA vs WI Scorecard:

After being tied down for quite some time, Yuvraj decides to break free.

The result, a massive six over long on off Sammy, the shot helping India cross the 100-run mark in the 21st over.

The roar of the crowd is back. They are yearning for more.

And Yuvraj obliges, this time with a boundary off Bishoo in the very next over.

Kieron Pollard replaces Sammy in the attack.
INDIA vs WI Scorecard:

The scoring rate has slowed down considerably.

India has managed to score just 16 in the last five overs.

Sammy and young Devendra Bishoo are bowling well in tandem.

INDIA vs WI Scorecard:

Yuvraj has managed to dodge a few bouncers hurled at him and has pulled Rampaul over midwicket for his first boundary.

A lovely cover drive off Russell gives the left-hander his second boundary.

Yuvraj gets a reprieve though. Sammy has dropped him at backward point off Russell.

To be fair to the West Indies skipper, it was a difficult chance.

Sammy has come in to bowl now and he bowls a good first over, conceding only three runs.
INDIA vs WI Scorecard:

Gambhir's extravagance has cost him his wicket.

Another rising ball and the left-handed batsmen, in a bid to cut it over the fence, hits it straight to Russell at third man.

Rampaul gets his second wicket.

Gambhir's 26-ball 22 is inclusive of four hits to the fence.

Yuvraj Singh walks in.

INDIA vs WI Scorecard:

Now it is Virat Kohli's turn to open up.

He does so with successive boundaries off Benn, the first one through point and the second through covers.

Andre Russell has replaced Benn (3-0-21-0) in the eight over. A miscued hit to the fence ensures India reach the 50-run mark.
INDIA vs WI Scorecard:

The early dismissal of Tendulkar seems to have stunned the crowd.

They were expecting that he gets his 100th ton today.

However, Gambhir has got them back on their feet again with a boundary over midwicket off Benn.

He helps himself to another in Benn's second over, this time through point.
INDIA vs WI Scorecard:

Its a packed house at the Chidambaram today.

And there's a deafening roar as Ravi Rampaul conceded five wides of the first ball he bowls.

However, there's disappointment soon after as Sachin Tendulkar (2) gets caught behind.

Rampaul has struck in the first over.
INDIA vs WI Scorecard:

India should win this one comfortably.

No Gayle, no Chanderpaul, no Roach - the West Indies has fielded a comparatively weaker side.

India, on the other hand, have a fairly strong team despite Sehwag's absence.

Teams:

India:

MS Dhoni (captain), Sachin Tendulkar, Gautam Gambhir, Virat Kohli, Yuvraj Singh, Suresh Raina, Yusuf Pathan, R Ashwin, Harbhajan Singh, Zaheer Khan, Munaf Patel

West Indies:

Darren Sammy (captain), Devon Smith, Kirk Edwards, Darren Bravo, Ramnaresh Sarwan, Kieron Pollard, Devon Thomas, Andre Russell, Suleiman Benn, Devendra Bishoo, Ravi Rampaul.

Live Score: India vs West Indies

Dhoni has offered a very pertinent explanation for his decision.

"We need to get off to a good start and review the situation every 5-10 overs," he said.

Darren Sammy, his opposite number, didn't seem too perturbed with the loss of toss.

"We are going to come out and play hard, we are looking to beat higher-ranked opposition and today could be the day," he said.

There are two changes in the India squad for the match - Suresh Raina and R Ashwin come in for Virender Sehwag and Ashish Nehra respectively.

There are also two changes in the West Indies squad - Kirk Edwards and Ravi Rampaul come in place of Chris Gayle and Kemar Roach.

India won the toss and elected to bat first in its final Group B game against the West Indies at the Chidambaram stadium on Sunday.

Going by the way the previous matches have panned out in this venue it might just be a good toss to win for the home team.
