Timeline  Refresh

NZ vs SA Scorecard:

New Zealand beat South Africa by 49 runs in Mirpur to qualify for the semi-finals for the World Cup for a sixth time.

On Tuesday, they will attempt to make it to their maiden final against either Sri Lanka or England in Colombo.

As regards the South Africans, they have yet again justified the chokers' tag attributed to them.

That's all for now folks!

Thanks for being with us.

See you again in Mohali for that big one: India vs Pakistan.
NZ vs SA Scorecard:

26 runs come of the batting power play for du Plessis' wicket.

New Zealand won't mind that.

And it is all over.

Morkel (3) is caught by How to give Woodcock his first wicket.

The South African dream is over.

NZ vs SA Scorecard:

The South Africans have taken the batting power play now (from 39-43 overs).

Vettori finishes his spell: 10-0-39-0.

The New Zealand captain bowled well but could not get a wicket.

Oram, who has had a spectacular day on the field, has dropped Du Plessis (36) off his own bowling. To be fair, it was a difficult chance.

The latter expresses his gratitude with a maximum over deep extra cover.

However, Oram has his revenge, Southee takes the catch.

The last South African hope has been dismissed.

NZ vs SA Scorecard:

Oram's third spell figures are impressive: 2-0-13-2.

He has brought his right back in the contest, first with that spectacular catch and then the wickets.

Now it is wicket no.8.

McCullum has dismissed Dale Steyn (8), courtesy another spectacular catch by Oram (who else?).

NZ vs SA Scorecard:

Wicket no.7.

Oram has Robin Peterson (0) caught behind.

South Africa have realised they can't win now maybe.

So they are making things easy for New Zealand.
NZ vs SA Scorecard:

Johan Botha (2) is cleaned up by a beauty from Oram.

South Africa is looking down the barrel now.

From 108 for two, they have collapsed to 128 for eight.

Another performance befitting their chokers' tag.
NZ vs SA Scorecard:

The twin wickets of JP Duminy and AB de Villiers has changed the complexion of the game.

The duo got out in the same over and that has put the pressure back on South Africa.

New Zealand is sensing a win here.

Will the South Africans 'choke' again?

NZ vs SA Scorecard:

A spectacular catch by Oram at deep midwicket ends Kallis' resistance.

Tim Southee is the beneficiary.

A vital breakthrough for New Zealand this.

Kallis's 75-ball 47 included three hits to the fence.

His third wicket stand with De Villiers yielded SA 39 runs.
NZ vs SA Scorecard:

AB de Villiers has hit a few good boundaries and is combining well with Kallis here.

Southee replaces Oram (4-1-9-1) in the 23rd over.

And De Villiers has helped him to his third boundary, a textbook shot through cover that helps South Africa get past the 100-run mark.

NZ vs SA Scorecard:

Smith and Kallis have put together a 61-run partnership for the second wicket.

And South Africa is back on track.

Luke Woodcock comes into bowl in the 14th over. He is the 77th player to play for New Zealand in the World Cup.

Smith hits Woodcock's first ball through covers for a boundary, his second.

Oram has replaced Southee (4-0-20-0) now.

And he strikes, having Smith caught by Jamie How at backward point.

In comes AB de Villiers.
NZ vs SA Scorecard:

Tim Southee has replaced McCullum (3-0-15-1) in the seventh over.

And Kallis welcomes him with a boundary through square leg.

He gets another in Southee's second over, again through square leg.

Jacob Oram replaces Vettori (4-0-15-0) in the 10th over.

And Smith welcomes him with a boundary, a shot that ensures SA reach the 50-run mark.
NZ vs SA Scorecard:

The twin spin attack has pushed South Africa into the back foot.

The Proteas are struggling to break free here.

Besides, the New Zealand fielders are backing up their bowlers to a considerably extent.

However, does manage to hit a boundary off Vettori.
NZ vs SA Scorecard:

Nathan McCullum has struck in the first over.

Or has he? South Africa go in for a review.

And it has gone against them.

Hashim Amla (7) departs, caught by Vettori at slips off a rebound.

The captain has come out to bowl the second over himself.
NZ vs SA Scorecard:

South Africa restricted New Zealand to 221 for eight in the third quarter-final of the ICC World Cup at the Sher-e-Bangla stadium in Mirpur on Friday.

With the foundation they had in the middle of their innings, the Black Caps' final score was disappointing to say the least.

The Proteas, on the other hand, will go into the second innings with the knowledge that 15 teams out of 20 have won chasing at this venue previously.

Jesse Ryder top-scored for New Zealand with a resolute 83 while Morne Morkel was the most successful bowler for South Africa with figures of three for 46.

See you after the break folks!
NZ vs SA Scorecard:

South Africa has managed to restrict New Zealand for 221 for eight.

Jacob Oram (7) has been cleaned up Morkel, the latter getting a second wicket.

In comes the captain, Daniel Vettori (6), and he starts off with a boundary behind square leg.

However, Morkel cleans him up for his third.

In the five overs that has followed, it has managed 37 runs at the cost of three wickets.
NZ vs SA Scorecard:

He has Nathan McCullum (6) caught by Duminy.

New Zealand is collapsing now.

Ryder's 121-ball 83 was inclusive of eight boundaries.

The New Zealand innings has expectedly slowed down after the twin dismissals.

12 runs have come four overs since.
NZ vs SA Scorecard:

Taylor's dismissal has come at a crucial stage.

He looked in good form and put together 114 runs (in 27 overs) for the third wicket with Ryder.

Taylor's 72-ball 43 included a boundary and a six.

Tahir (3-0-8-1) has been replaced by Botha after giving his side the breakthrough.

Smith has followed a similar pattern throughout the day - of replacing the wicket-taking bowler after he has taken the wicket.

Peterson (3-0-23-0) was expensive in his third spell and has been replaced by Morkel.

Scott Styris (16) lcomes the latter with a couple of boundaries.

Morkel has been completely off colour today. However, he finally has something to cheer.

He has cleaned up Styris.

And Tahir has come back to account for the dangerous Styris.
NZ vs SA Scorecard:

Imran Tahir replaces Duminy (2-0-9-0) in the 29th over.

Robin Peterson replaces Steyn (2-0-7-0) and Ryder welcomes him with a boundary over extra cover.

The two batsmen have settled down well and Smith is getting desperate for a breakthrough with every passing over.

The third wicket partnership is now worth more than 100 runs. It is just New Zealand's second century partnership in the tournament.

Ryder and Taylor have taken their time but have done well to bring New Zealand back into the match.

Taylor sweeps Peterson for a maximum. But his extravagance has cost him his wicket.

Tahir has him caught by Kallis.

Steyn concedes only a run in his opening over. However, Ryder dispatches the first ball of his second past mid-off for a boundary, the shot helping New Zealand cross the 100-run mark, in the 28th over.
NZ vs SA Scorecard:

It is the first 50-run partnership between Ryder and Taylor in eight attempts.

Botha returns to the attack after drinks and Taylor welcomes him with a boundary through covers, his first.

Jacques Kallis is introduced into the attack in the 20th over and bowls a good first over, giving away just two runs.

A single off Kallis helps Ryder complete his fifth ODI fifty, his first against South Africa and his first in the World Cup.

Taylor has also reached 3000 ODI runs, the 12th player from New Zealand to achieve the feat.
NZ vs SA Scorecard:

The 34 runs New Zealand scored in the first 10 overs is their lowest total in the mandatory powerplay in the tournament.

Ryder and Ross Taylor have helped improved things thereafter.

Smith has now brought back Morkel in place of Peterson (2-0-12-0). And he concedes only a single in his first over in the second spell.

However, a boundary by Ryder in his second over ensure the 50-run partnership for the third wicket.
NZ vs SA Scorecard:

He follows it up with another three runs to backward square leg.

Dale Dteyn has ensured SA a second breakthrough, having Martin Guptill (1) caught by Botha.

Robin Peterson has ensured South Africa an early breakthrough, catching Brendon McCullum (4) off his own bowling.

McCullum hasn't been in very good form in the tournament and his poor run continues.

New Zealand 5-1
