Kings XI Punjab thump past Kochi by 6 wkts

A brilliant batting display from Dinesh Karthik and Shaun Marsh ensured Kings XI Punjab beat Kochi Tuskers Kerala by six wickets.

Karthik made a brilliant 69 off 33 balls, which included seven boundaries and five massive sixes.

It was Punjab's second straight win with seven balls to spare.

Meanwhile, Marsh made 42 off 30 balls. For Kochi RP Singh was the most successful bowler with figures of4-25.

With the runs comming freely, Mahela Jayawardene turns to his best bowler RP Singh and he strikes off the first ball.

RP induces a false stroke from Dinesh Karthik as he hits one in the air, where Mahela takes a brilliant catch in the covers.

Five balls later he removes Marsh too. Marsh goes for the drive off the full delivery, the bat closes in his hands, and the ball loops back to RP.

At the endof 15 overs Punjab were 146-4

Dinesh Karthik and Shaun Marsh are turning the heat on Kochi bowlers as the bowlers were guilty of some poor bowling.

Karthik first plundered 19 runs of Brad Hodge over, then in the next over, Karthik again scored 16 runs from the over.

The duo soon brought up their 100-run stand off just 50 balls, with Karthik reaching his half-century off a six.

At the end of 14 overs Punjab were 142-2.

Parameswaran comes in after the strategic break as Karthik plays one through the covers for a single.

He follows it up with a wide delivery. Parameswaran pithces one full as Marsh pounces on it for a boundary.

RP who had been building up the steam, bowled couple of lovely yorkers, which narroly missed the stumps.

He then bowled one wide as Gilchrist gets a thickish edge to Patel.

Punjab were 49-2 after six overs.

Chasing a competitive 179 for victory, Punjab has had a mixed start. But just as we speak, Paul Valthaty on the front foot smacks RP Singh for a maximum.

Super shotas the ball goes inot the first tier.

One ball later, Valthaty swibbles in his crease and pull it for a maximum. A falt six.

But RP soon has his revenge as he castles Paul for 17 runs. RP pithces one full as he ball sneaks through Valthaty bat to give Kochi the first breakthrough.

At the end of three overs, Punjab were 25-1.

Into the final over now as Raiphi Gomez turns one for a single. Strike back to Mahela.

A thick inside edge as Jayawardene scamper for a couple. The Sri Lankan tries a little cheeky short, doesn't connect it -- a single none the less.

Gomez goes for a big one misses the ball, and umpire had little trouble in raising his finger.

Vinay Kumar smashes one straight past the bowler as they turn for the couple. But the throw from David Hussey is on the mark as Jayawardene is inches short of his crease.

Kochi eventually finished with 178-7 after 20 overs.

Piyush Chawla snaps Ravindra Jadeja to give Punjab a vital breakthrough.

Jadeja went for a sweep shot, missing the ball comepletly and was caught plumb in front.

Just when things were getting out of hand, Bipul Sharma provides the breakthrough as he had Brendon McCullum walking back after being adjudged leg-before-wicket for 32.

McCullum then tucks one through midwicket for a single. Time for Jayawardene to get into the act as he smacks a wide delivery for the third boundary from the over.

At the end of seven overs Kochi were 76 for no loss.
