Delhi finish last after washout

Well the news is official now -- the game has been called off.

Pune hasa better net run-rare means Delhi technically end at the bottom of the table.

So after the strategic break, rain has stopped play for the moment. It's a light shower, and should stop soon.

Umpire Rod Tucker quickly asks for the covers to come on. Good break for Delhi as they are reeling at 56-3.

Pune bowlers have kept things tight and have been the better team so far.

Young Mitchell Marsh is into the act as he cleans up Matthew Wade's leg stump.

Wade looking to give himself a bit of room to play a cut outside off-stump, misses the ball as Marsh bowls an excellent yorker to send the Aussie back to the pavillion.

At the break, Delhi were reeling at 47-3 after nine overs.

Pune strike again as Shrikant Mundhe removes Naman Ojha's miserable run in the middle.

Mundhe, who had kept a tight line in the over so far made Ojha go for a false stroke, which led to his down fall.

After playing four dot balls, Ojha went after a widish delivery, couldn't get the timing right and skied it to third man to Rahul Sharma, who took a good catch in the end.

Delhi were 33-2 after six overs. Colin Ingram is in the middle and is yet to open his account alongwith Wade who is on two.

Delhi lose David Warner after Faulkner manages to slip one under his bat to castle the Aussie opener.

Faulkner, after being hit for a six off the first ball off the over bowls a Steve Waugh types slowish yorkerto remove the opener.

Delhi were 25-1 after four overs. Naman Ojha is on three, along with Matthew Wade who is on one.

Delhi Daredevils have won the toss and have elected to bat first against Pune Warriors in an inconsequential match at the Feroz Shah Kotla.

It's time for changes for both the teams as Colin Ingram and Matthew Wade come in for Delhi,while Pune have included James Faulkner and Mitch Marsh in their side.

Chawla attempts a big shot over covers against Anand Rajan only to be caught by Duminy on the cover boundary, but luckily for him Duminy failed to control himself and fell on the boundary ropes to give a six.

But a couple of balls later, Chawla gets it off the middle as he pulls Rajan over midwicket for his second six of the over.

Anand finishes off the innings as he runs out lastman Bhargav Bhatt with a direct hit.

Punjab are bowled out for 116 in 19 overs to lose by a huge margin of 82 runs.

Punjab are knocked out of the running for the IPL Play-offs after the loss, which means Mumbai and Kolkata have made it through to the eliminators.

Deccan end their campaign with a morale boosting victory as they outplayed Punjab in all departments.

While Dhawan shone with the bat, smashing 95 from 57 balls, Mishra was the hero with the ball, claiming four for seven in four, including a hat-trick. Christian also made an important contribution with the ball, as he took two for 21, including the big wicket of Adam Gilchrist.

With the match firmly in Deccan's grip, the Punjab batsmen are just going through the motions. Praveen Kumar having a few smiles as he fails to pierce the off-side against Steyn's extra pace, who concedes just two runs in that over.

Mishra continues his wicket ways. Praveen is beaten all ends up by the googly and is bowled for a seven-ball duck.

Mishra has now claimed four wickets in five balls to run through the Deccan lower middle order.

A wicket maiden for Mishra to end his magnificent spell, where he took four for seven in three overs.

Punjab are 104 for nine in 18 overs, needing 95 runs from the last 12 balls for victory.

Youngster Mandeep Singh tries the pull shot against Christian but misses and is hit on the helmet. However, Mandeep flicks the next ball through long leg for a boundary as Christian drifted on the pads, the first four after 24 balls.

McLaren is lucky to survive a close leg before wicket appeal against Mishra. However, he does not survive for long, brilliantly caught by Christian diving forward at deep midwicket.

Mishra gets a wicket off the very next ball. He beat Mandeep Singh in the flight to have him stumped for seven.

Mishra with a chance to claim his second hat-trick in the IPL. And it happens!

Ryan Harris tries to play the cut shot but is caught at second slip to give Mishra his hat-trick. He becomes the second bowler after Yuvraj Singh to take two hat-tricks in the IPL.

Mishra's wonderful figures now read three for seven in three overs.

Ojha has his first wicket now. Nayyar tried to break the shackles as he went down the wicket and tried to hit a big shot on the leg side but was caught on the midwicket boundary for three.

No boundaries for the last 22 balls as the match has slipped away from Punjab since the departure of Gilchrist.

In the last five overs, Punjab have scored just 21 runs for the loss of three wickets.

Punjab look to be out of the contest at this stage and one is sure that Mumbai Indians and Kolkata Knight Riders will heave a sigh of relief. A defeat for Punjab means that both Mumbai and Kolkata will make it to the play-offs.

That double blow from Christian has stunned Punjab. An excellent over from Mishra as he concedes just two singles in his second over.

Ryan McLaren has no idea against the spinners. It is just singles at the moment for both Abhishek Nayyar and McLaren as the game is slipping away from the hosts.

Punjab are 90 for four in 13 overs, and now need to score 109 runs from the remaining 42 balls for victory.

Finally, some relief for Punjab as Gilchrist smashes Christian for a four through the covers. The left-hander then completes his fifty off 36 balls off the next delivery.

However, Punjab's hopes are badly hit with the wicket of Gilchrist, straight to Cameron White in the covers, after a quick 51 from 37 balls.

A couple of balls later, Christian strikes another blow. Karthik hits a short wide delivery straight to the deep point fielder as Punjab are reeling at 84 for four after 11 overs.

Duminy, who bowled two good overs at the start, comes back for another spell. Another neat over from the South African, conceding just six runs, without giving away a boundary.

He even had a huge appeal for leg before wicket turned down against Gilchrist.

Amit Mishra follows that up with a good over, his first of the innings, giving away just five.

At the halfway stage, Punjab are 77 for two, needing another 122 runs from the remaining ten overs.

Gilchrist changing gears here. He pulls a short ball from Ojha through the leg side for yet another four and then lofts the spinner through the same region but this time it goes all the way for a huge six.

In the last match too, Gilchrist took a while to find his bearings before going on an all out attack.

Gilchrist continues his attacking approach. He is quick to rock back to a short ball from Ojha and pull it through midwicket for a four.

Daniel Christian into the attack now to replace Anand Rajan, who went for 11 in his first over.

He settles into a good rhythm immediately as he beats Karthik off the first three balls of the over with a single off the fourth. Gilchrist once again fails to despatch a short ball and only just manages to get it over the midwicket fielder.

Christian tries a similar ploy off the final ball, but this time Gilchrist is waiting and pulls it without a problem over midwicket for a four.

Steyn is getting a bit of extra bounce. He makes Gilchrist duck with the bouncer and gets another one to bounce a bit more, which the left-hander just lets go.

But you can't keep Gilchrist quiet for long. He takes on the short delivery from Gilchrist but gets a top edge only for two runs through the square leg region.

The last ball is hit powerfully back at Steyn, but it goes through his fingers to give Gilchrist a single.

New bowler Anand Raja starts off with a wide. A couple of balls later, Gilchrist lofts the medium pacer over mid-off for a six and then hits straight back over the bowler for a four.

11 runs from that over as Punjab reach 36 for two after five overs.

Duminy to bowl his second over and Marsh is wasting no time. The left-hander gets back to back boundaries, through covers and midwicket respectively.

But once again, Deccan strike back. Marsh tries another big shot down but gets a thick outside edge and is caught at short thirdman for 13.

This is an interesting contest now -- Dale Steyn vs Adam Gilchrist!

However, it is Valthaty, who is facing Steyn first up. Two play and misses outside the off-stump as the right-hander looks to be throwing his bat at everything in his usual style.

Valthaty gets the third ball off the middle and sends it flying over point for a four. But Steyn has his revenge off the next ball as Valthaty chips it straight to the mid-on fielder to be dismissed for five.

The in-form Shaun Marsh, the top run scorer in this year's IPL so far, starts off in some style. A full wide delivery from Steyn is sent crashing through the covers for a four.

Deccan Chargers start their bowling with left-arm spinner JP Duminy, a move that has worked for them in the last few matches.

Duminy starts off well with just a single in his first five deliveries, but Gilchrist spoils that over with a boundary through point off the final ball.

It was a brilliant batting display from the Chargers, who made merry thanks to some poor fielding from the Kings XI in a must-win game.

For Punjab to qualify for the play offs, they have to achieve the score in 13.4 overs.

Couple of balls later Chalwa drops one short as Teja pounces on it and smashes it on the leg side as there is yet another misfield on the field.
