Bangalore thrash Mumbai, book final berth

Royal Challengers Bangalore thrashed Mumbai Indians by 43 runs at the MA Chidambaram stadium on Friday to book their berth in the final of the Indian Premier League.
Bangalore will take on defending champions Chennai Super Kings in the final at the same venue on Saturday.
Chasing a formidable 186 to win, Mumbai, last year's losing finalists, could manage only 142 for eight in their stipulated 20 overs.

Vettori continues after the break and he will be bowling to his countryman James Franklin. Vettori concedes just four runs.
Gayle bowls the 10th over and gives away eight runs, including a boundary to Rohit Sharma.
Vettori though strikes in the fourth ball of his third over, having Rohit (13) caught by Luke Pommersbach at sweeper cover.
Ambati Rayudu (0) surviives a ball, getting trapped leg before. Mumbai 83 for five in 11 overs.

Abhimanyu Mithun comes in to bowl the fifth over and Harbhajan welcomes him by dispatching his first ball wide of long on for a boundary.
Three balls later, Bhajji goes over wide long off for a maximum. 13 runs come off Mithun's first over.
However, Aravind strikes again in the first ball of his third over, having Harbhajan (13) caught by Luke Pommersbach at deep square leg.
Rohit Sharma comes in to bat. Tendulkar hits two boundaries in the same over to ease the pressure.
Daniel Vettori replaces Mithun (1-0-13-0) in the attack in the seventh over. He concedes eight runs, including a boundary to his Mumbai counterpart.
Syed Mohammad into the attack in the eighth over and Tendulkar greets him with a boundary off his first ball.
However, the spinner has the last laugh having the Master Blaster stumped. Mumbai 68 for three after eight overs and time for a timeout.

Aiden Blizzard and Sachin Tendulkar come out to bat for Mumbai while Zaheer will open the attack for Bangalore.
Blizzard hits Zaheer's first ball past mid on for the first boundary off the innings. Three balls later, the Australian despatched the ball between midwicket and mid on for another boundary.
Mumbai 10 without loss after the first over. Sreenath Aravind comes in to bowl over no.2.
And Tendulkar hits the first two balls to the fence. Mumbai 20 without loss after two overs.
Chris Gayle comes in to bowl the third over, replacing Zaheer (1-0-10-0). He concedes only two.
Aravind strikes in the third ball of his second over, having Blizzard (10) caught by Agarwal at long on.
Harbhajan comes in to bat. Mumbai 28 for one after four overs.

He concedes just seven runs in the over.
Royal Challengers Bangalore eventually manage 185 for four in their stipulated overs.
Mumbai Indians have a tough task at hand when they come in to bat.

Munaf strikes in the second ball after resumption, having Pommersbach (4) caught by Malinga at short third man.
Three wickets in three overs and MI are back. Munaf finishes with two for 27.
Malinga bowls the 18th over and gives away only six runs. Abu Nechim bowls the penultimate over and De Villiers smashes the second ball for a maximum.
To make matters worse it is a no ball. RCB 178 for four after 19 overs.

Harbhajan was expensive today, his figures (4-0-40-0) making for a sorry reading.
Abu Nechim comes in to replace him in the 16th over and strikes second ball, cleaning up Virat Kohli (8).
Luke Pommersbach comes in to bat.
After 16 overs, RCB have made 155 for three and it is time for the second strategic timeout.

Virat Kohli comes in to join Gayle.
And Harbhajan comes in to replace Abu Nechim (2-0-38-0) in the 12th over.
However, it is Munaf who accounts for Gayle (89), having him caught by Franklin.
Gayle's 47-ball knock was inclusive of nine hits to the fence and five over it.
AB de Villiers comes in to bat.
RCB 150 for two after 15 overs.

Tendulkar is running out of options here. There is a lull for five balls, with five runs coming, before Gayle smashes the last ball for a maximum much to the bowler's dismay.
Pollard continues and is unfortunate as Rohit drops Agarwal (then on 40) at long on.
That is what pressure has done to Mumbai. They are even putting down sitters.
However, the mistake is not repeated three balls later, as Rohit hangs on. Agarwal goes for 41. RCB 113 for one.

Chennai's revenge, shall we say.

When Chennai Super Kings played Royal Challengers in the first play-off on Tuesday, Wankhede was conspisuous by the absence of crowds.

Today, Chennai is having its revenge.

As Mumbai Indians and RCB fight it out for a final berth, the Chepauk is half-empty (or half-full). Considering Chennaiites are sports lovers, I must admit, it is surprising.
Munaf continues after the breather and Gayle hits the third ball over extra cover for his eighth boundary.
Rohit Sharma comes in to replace Malinga (2-0-11-0) in the eighth over and Agarwal hits the second ball to the fence and the third over it. 14 runs come off the over. 90 for no loss after eight.
Kieron Pollard comes in to bowl the ninth over replacing Munaf (2-0-18-0) and Gayle completes his fifty in the over with a four. RCB 100 without loss after nine overs.

Harbhajan continues and young Agarwal dances down the ground in the second ball and clears the long-on fence.
The shot helps RCB surpass the 50-run mark, in just 19 balls. The second ball goes past point and to the fence.
RCB 57 for no loss after four overs. Munaf Patel replaces Malinga (1-0-10-0) in the attack in the fifth over and Gayle welcomes him with succssive boundaries.
Malinga is brought back from the other end in the sixth over, replacing Harbhajan (2-0-20-0).
RCB 68 without loss after six overs, and the field restrictions are off. Mumbai can now breathe easy.

Gayle's treatment has forced Tendulkar to replace Abu Nechim (1-0-27-0) with his strike bowler, Lasith Malinga.
The Caribbean continues, hitting the Sri Lankan's first ball past covers to the fence. The third goes to the fine leg fence. RCB 46 for no loss after three overs.

Chris Gayle and Mayank Agarwal open the batting for Royal Challengers Bangalore and it is Abu Nechim Ahmed who begins the proceedings for Mumbai Indians.
Gayle hits a boundary off the second legitimate ball and repeats the feat in the next. The next legitimate delivery, after five wides, goes for a maximum. The last ball also goes to the fence.

It is a typical Chennai wicket, hard and the ball should come on to the bat. We have been able to get a couple of close victories, pressure brings the best out of you," reasoned Tendulkar for his decision.
His opposite number, Daniel Vettori, seemed unperturbed with the toss loss.

Mumbai Indians won the toss and invited Royal Challengers Bangalore to bat first in the second play-off of the Indian Premier League at the MA Chidambaram stadium on Friday.
Sachin Tendulkar, the MI captain, had no hesitation in opting to field first the moment he called it correctly.
It is a must win game for the both the teams with a place in the final at stake.
