Mumbai beat Somerset to set up a dream final with RCB

Mumbai Indians held their nerves to beat Somerset by 10 runs to set up a dream final with the Royal Challengers Bangalore.

 

Somerset, who were rattled early with two early wickets, did well thanks to a crucial 83 runs stand for the third wicket between Craig Kieswetter and James Hildreth.

 

But then the 19th over turned the tide in Mumbai's favour, where James Franklin picked up the wickets of James Butler and then Craig Kieswetter, who played a brilliant 62.

 

For Mumbai it was Malinga who finished with 4-20 off his four overs.

Harbhajan Singh comes back into the attack as James Hildreth smacks for a boundary.

 

Hildreth goes way past the off-stump gets a fine edge for a boundary. Next up Hildret goes for the same sweep, this time misses the ball and the ball crashes onto the off stump to provide the breakthrough.

 

Somerset were 103-3 after 14 overs.

James Hildreth and Craig Kieswetter have steadied Somerset after the inital storm and now have given the side a realistic chance of making it to the finals.

 

The duo have been critical in their shot making -- mixing caution with aggression.

 

Somerset were 95-2 after 13 overs. Hildreth is on 35, while Kieswetter is on 46.

Lasith Malinga, agter removing Peter Trego in the first over, no removes dangerous Roelf van der Merwe -- this time with a slower one.

 

After spearing fast yorkers, Malinga went in for variety and bowled a brilliant slower one as van der Merwe completely missed the trajectory of the ball and the ball crashed onto the base of middle stumps.

 

Somerset were 20-2 after four overs.

Lasith Malinga provides the breakthrough for Mumbai Indians by dismissing Peter Trego for naught off the second ball of the first over.

 

Trego's expression said it all as he couldn't deal with the slinging action of the Sri Lankan.

Roelf van der Merwe comes out in the middle and smacks a boundary off the first ball.

Somerset were 5 for 1 after 1 over.

Riding high on a half-century by Aiden Blizzard and big-hitting by Kieron Pollard and R Satish, Mumbai finished with 160-5 in the stipulated 20 overs.

 

Mumbai Indians struggled on a slow pitch, and they lost wickets at regular intervals. Blizzard blazed a brilliant 54 off 39 balls, Pollard smashed 24 off 18 balls, but it was Satish who provided the late flourish for Mumbai.

 

Dibble was the pick of the bowlers with 1-20 off his four overs.

And as we speak, Pollard is cleaned up by a superb yorker by Thomas for 24.

It's time for set Aiden Blizzard to go. With the runs drying up, Blizzard went it for a wild slog, missing the ball completely off Murali Karthik.

 

Mumbai are losing their way now. At the end of 13 overs Mumbai were 93-4.

Adam Dibble provides the much-needed breakthrough as he had Ambati Rayudu caught behind the stumps by Craig Kieswetter.

 

It has been a disappointing Champions League outing for Rayudu as he was back in the hut for 19.

 

At the end of 8 overs, Mumbai were 62-2.

Rayudu turns one for a single. Blizzard takes a single to ensure that the strike is being rotated constantly.

Kanwar was itching to get into the strike and may be touch of rash shot as well.

 

Ambati Rayudu walks in and Kirby bowls a no-ball. Free Hit!!! Rayudu goes for the pull but Trego is there to cover it up.

 

But can you believe it another no-ball -- this time Blizzard is on strike.

 

Blizzard clears his leg and smacks it to deep midwicket boundary for a maximum.

Steve Kirby into the attack for the second over and Aiden Blizzard smacks one straight past the bowler for the first boundary of the match.

 

Kirby back to length -- no runs.

 

Kirby back to Blizzard and this time he drives it through the off side for the second boundary off the over.

 

Next up a short and wide delivery, and Blizzard is more than happy to smash it to boundary -- consecutive boundary for Blizzard.

 

At the end of second over, Mumbai were 16-0.

Mumbai Indians have won the toss and have elected to bat in crucial semi-final clash against Somerset in Chennai.

 

Symonds is out of Mumbai Indians side and Suryakumar Yadav is back. While Somerset is going in with the same side.

 

This will be Somerset's first game in Chennai, Mumbai have played here before in the tournament.
