India lose a great chance to open their account in England. They will get another opportunity on Tuesday, when the second ODI takes place in Southampton.

He cleans up Cook with his fourth ball. The England captain managed just four runs. Jonathan Trott comes in to bat.

The home team reduced to six for one after three overs.

Live Scorecard:

Craig Kieswetter and Alastair Cook come out to open the innings for England and it is Praveen Kumar who will start the proceedings for India.

The first ball goes past a diving second slip for a boundary. Cook off to a tentative start. He gets a boundary nonetheless. No further run in scored in the first over.

R Vinay Kumar comes in to bowl the second over and concedes only two runs.

The 50-run partnership for the fifth wicket has been achieved.

In the last over of batting Powerplay, Dernbach has Raina (38) caught by Cook.  India manage 38 runs in the batting Powerplay.

Bresnan has MS Dhoni (33) caught behind is the third ball of the final over. R Ashwin goes for a first ball duck, cleaned up by Bresnan who is on a hat-trick. Vinay Kumar avoids the hat-trick.

India manage 274 for seven in their stipulated 50 overs.
17:59
Live Scorecard:

Samit Patel has cleaned up Virat Kohli for 55.

Raina is however, looking in good touch. A boundary, followed by a six off Broad, signal his intention.

The batting Powerplay is taken in the 45th over. Dernbach bowls the first over and Raina smashes the fourth ball over fine leg for his second six. It's a good over for India with 12 runs coming off it.

India 244 for four after 45 overs.

17:32
Live Scorecard:

Rohit Sharma comes in to bat and Broad ensures he doesn't do much damage. The first ball Rohit faces hits him on the index finger and he is in pain.

It doesn't come across as a surprise as he walks back to the pavilion, retired hurt, having faced just one ball. Suresh Raina comes in to bat and hits Anderson for a boundary over extra cover.

A single off Anderson helps Kohli register his 16th ODI fifty.

The visitors have made 202 for three after 39 overs.

Live Scorecard:

With Patel and Trott failing to make an impact, Cook has handed the ball to his two leading bowlers - Anderson and Broad.

The100-run partnership for the third wicket is brought up in Anderson's over. However, the bowler ensures England the breakthrough they so desperately sought having Parthiv caught behind.

Parthiv is unfortunate to be dismissed for 95, five short of what would have been a deserving hundred. His 107-ball knock was inclusive of a dozen boundaries.

It is Anderson's 212th ODI wicket.

India 190 for three after 37 overs.
17:06
Live Scorecard:

India reach the 150-run mark in the 31st over courtesy a Parthiv boundary off Dernbach. The diminutive batsman is now into the 80s.

Not managing to find a breakthrough, Cook has handed the ball to Jonathan Trott - in place of Dernbach (6-0-39-0) in the 33rd over. He conceded seven runs in his first over, including a boundary to Parthiv.

The visitors have made 179 for two after 35 overs.

16:46
Live Scorecard:

Parthiv has now registered his highest one-day score. He and Virat Kohli are putting the Indian innings back on track here.

Bresnan bowls successive bouncers at Parthiv and the diminutive batsmen dispatches both of them to the square leg fence.

Kohli pulls Dernbach over midwicket for his first boundary. The shot also ensures the 50-run partnership for the third wicket.

India 146 for two after 30 overs.
16:20
Live Scorecard:

Broad almost has a third wicket but Parthiv's shot lands just short of Eoin Morgan at deep midwicket. Maybe the fielder didn't try hard enough.

In Dernbach's next over, Parthiv reaches his fourth ODI fifty.

Samit Patel replaces Broad (6-0-29-2) in the attack and concedes five runs first up.

India 104 for two after 22 overs.
16:04

Broad has Rahul Dravid (2) caught behind. But umpire Billy Doctrove isn't convinced.

Dravid stands his ground and England go for a review. And the decision is reversed. Broad strikes a second time. The Hot Spot didn't show a nick though.

India 87 for two after 18 overs.
15:50

Jade Dernbach replaces Anderson (7-0-28-0) in the attack in the 15th over and Rahane welcomes him by smashing his second ball over wide long-on for his sixth boundary.

Three balls later Parthiv helps himself to a sixth boundary, through square leg on this occasion. The Indian openers are frustrating the home team with their resolve and controlled aggression.

They are making Alastair Cook regret his decision of putting India in after winning the toss.

However, Broad ensures England the breakthrough, having Rahane (40) caught by Samit Patel.

The visitors have made 82 for one after 16 overs.
15:33

Stuart Broad replaces Tim Bresnan (4-0-18-0) in the attack in the 10th over. Rahane hits the fourth ball straight back the bowler for his third boundary.

And Parthiv helps himself to his second boundary off the last ball, a pull through square leg.

A boundary off Broad by Rahane, over midwicket, helps India get past the 50-run mark. Three balls later, the ball is belted through extra cover for Rahane's fifth boundary.

The visitors have made 58 without loss after 12 overs.
15:12

It is slow progress for India before Parthiv breaks the shackles with a boundary straight past Anderson. It is the first boundary of the Indian innings, coming in the fifth over.

Patel is fortunate to survive when Ben Stokes puts him down at backward point off Bresnan. Rahane pulls the fifth ball of the same over to the midwicket fence, his first boundary.

India 24 for no loss after seven overs.
