Rain forces dramatic D/L tie at Lord's

Well it was on the cards with the rain playing hide and seek as the fourth ODI between England and India ended in a tie according the D/L method.

 

Things could have been different had Munaf Patel not picked up the wicket of Ravi Bopara, who almost rallied England to a clinical finish.  

 

The result means that England have taken the ODI series as well. RP Singh was India's best bowler with figures of 3-59 off his nine overs. 

The fifth and final ODI is at Cardiff.

In a classic humdinger, India managed to keep themselves in the hunt as the scores are tied as of now on the D/L system.

England were 270-8, requiring another 11 runs to win the game.

If the umpires decide not the come out for play, then England will take the ODI series as they have taken a 2-0 lead in the series.

With the weather playing games, it looked like the hosts will steal a win as they were ahead on the D/L method. But then two crucial wickets that of Swann and Ravi Bopara meant that match is heading for an exciting finish.

Bopara held the fort with a brilliant 96, before holding out to Jadeja in the deep.

Unpredictable English weather means that players are back in the field. England are in good position with Bopara holding fort for hosts.

 

RP Singh is into the attack as Bopara clips one on the leg side for a single. Swann, meanwhile, gives himself a bit of room and smashes it for a boundary -- a much needed one.

 

England doing it nice and easy as 250 up for hosts. At the end of 46 overs England were 252 for six. Bopara is on 92, while Swann is on 18.

Well it's pouring at Lord's and at this stage England are ahead on the D/L method.

 

One over ago, England were behind the D/L method, but the over from Munaf Patel costed 9 runs, which ensured that England are two runs ahead according to the calculations.

Bopara is playing a sensible innings as he is playing with the Duckworth and Lewis in mind.

 

Ravindra Jadeja is giving too many easy singles as Bresnan creams one on the off side for a boundary.

 

With the batting Powerplay still left, the match is evenly poised.

 

RP Singh back into the attack as he knocks Bresnan's off stump. Bresnan tried to run it down to the thirdman, missed the ball completely.

 

England were 226-6 after 43 overs.

After Ian Bell, now young Ben Stokes departs after giving a simple catch to Ashwin off his own bowling.

 

Just a ball before Stokes had creamed one though the off-side for a boundary. Ashwin cleverly pushed the ball down the leg side, as Stokes couldn't time it properly, giving an easy catch to the bowler.

 

England at the end of 36 overs were 175 for five. Bopara is going stron ong 61, while Tim Bresnan is on two.

India needed wickets and Ravindra Jadeja did excatly that. The left-arm spinner induced a flase stroke from in-form Ian Bell, who chipped it to long-on for a tame dismissal.

 

Bell and Bopara had combined well, after early jolts, but Bell lost his cool to give an easy catch to substitute fielder Manoj Tiwary.

 

Bell was back in the hut for a well made 54. Ben Stokes joins Bopara in the middle.

 

England were 162-4 after 33 overs.

Both Ian Bell  and ravi Bopara have been taking quiet singles -- slowly marching towards the total.

 

The duo is playing sensibly, playing risk-free cricket. Dhoni too is helping them  giving them easy singles.

 

Meanwhile, Bell completes his half-century as England reach 148-3 off 30 overs. Bopara is on 46.

Ian Bell and Ravi Bopara are on a conter-attack mode as the duo have added 50 runs off 56 balls.

 

Indians have been guilty on bowling on both sides of the stumps. At the end of 22 overs England were 112-3. Bell is on 32, while Bopara is on 30.

Praveen Kumar picked up his wicket as he had Johanthan Trott dragging one back on to his stumps for 23.

 

Trott and Ian Bell had combined well after the early blows, but Praveen in his seventh over gave India the breakthrough.

RP Singh strikes again in his third over as he snaps Alastair Cook off for 12. A tame dismissal as Cook hits one straight to Virat Kohli in the covers to make it two in two for RP.

 

Bell facing the hat-trick ball dabs one to third man for a single. RP is working up pace as well -- Trott gets an inside edge for a boundary.

 

Next up, Trott stads up tall for second boundary off the over.

 

So at the end of six overs England 36-2.

RP Singh provides the breakthrough for India as he induced Craig Kieswetter to play a flase stroke. Kieswetter was back in the hut for 12 runs.

 

The England wicket-keeper batsman, tried to up the scoring, ended up lobbing the ball in the air, where Ravindra Jadeja took a neat little catch.

 

England 21-1 after four overs.

Welcome to England run chase as Craig Kieswetter and Alastair Cook are out in the middle. A lot will depend on how will Indian new ball bowlers bowl.

 

Praveen Kumar will open the bowling for India.

 

England are off the mark as Cook clips one through the leg side for a couple. Praveen corrects his length and bowls a beauty, beating Cook's outside edge.

 

At the end of first over England 2-0.

Brilliant counter-attacking cricket from MS Dhoni and Suresh Raina ensured India post a competitive 280-5 for five.

 

India were 110-4, when the duo joined hands and they put on a brilliant 169 runs for the fifth wicket to put India in control.

 

Raina was out in the final over, when he was caught in the deep by Ben Stokes for a well made 84 off 75 balls, with seven boundaries and two sixes.

 

Dhoni too contributed well scoring an unbeaten 78, with six fours and three sixes.

 

For England Graeme Swann and Struart Broad picked up two wickets each.

India after taking the batting Powerplay have started punishing England bowlers.

 

James Anderson was welcomed on to the crease with a boundary by Dhoni over midwicket.

 

Next up short and wide and Dhoni doesn't need a second invitation as he chops one through the off-side for another boundary.

 

Suresh Raina at the other end heaves one through square-leg for a maximum. The six brought up Raina's half-century.

 

The duo have added 107 for the fifth wicket.

At the end of  45 overs India were 217-4. Dhoni is on 47, while Raina is on 53

MS Dhoni and Suresh Raina have done well putting on 61 runs so far for the fifth wicket.

 

Broad into the attack as Dhoni slams one thorugh the off side, but Cook is there to stop a certain boundary.

 

Raina at the other end plays a chip shot over the wicketkeeper's head for a boundary.

 

A risky double at the end of Braod's over as nine runs came from that over. India 171-4 after 39 overs. Raina is on 39, while Dhoni is going strong on 27.

Steven Finn re-introduced into the attack as Dhoni dabs one towards third man for a couple of runs.

 

Next up Finn manages find the edge of Dhoni's bat, but the ball flies past Kieswetter for a boundary.

 

Run rate has slowed down considerbaly after double strikes from Swann.

 

At the end of 33 overs India were 128-4. Dhoni is on 11, while Raina is on seven.

Spin introduced for the first time as Graeme Swann now has the ball. It's been a happy hunting ground for Swann here at Lord's.

 

And as we speak, Swann strikes as he removes Virat Kohli, who edges one to Kieswetter for 16. Kohli looked scratchy in the middle as he tried to dab one against the turn.

 

Suresh Raina walks in the middle and he gets off the mark with a drive towards long-on for a single.

 

Next up Swann has Rahul Dravid walking back after he gave an easy catch back to the bowler. Dravid was back in the hut for 19.

 

India 110-4 after 26 overs, with MS Dhoni joining Raina in the middle.

Rahul Dravid and Virat Kohli are taking their time in the middle as Ravi Bopara is brought into the attack.

 

Dravid welcomes him with the delicate shot for a boundary. Next up Dravid cuts Bopara for another boundary. Dravid looking good now as nine runs come from the over.

 

India 95-2 after 21 overs. Dravid is on 17, while Kohli is on seven.

Stuart Broad now gets Parthiv Patel playing a false stroke as the left-hander top-edges one and Ravi Bopara completes an easy catch.

 

Parthiv gets a send-off as well from the England bowler as he turns around and wags his finger towards Parthiv.

 

India now have two new batsmen on the pitch as Rahul Dravid is joined by Virat Kohli in the middle.

 

India 74-2 after 16 overs. Kohli is off the mark with a boundary, while Dravid is yet to open his account.

Stuart Broad strikes in his first over as he removes in-form Rahane for 38. Rahane tries to play the shot cross the line, missing the ball all together as the ball hits his pad.

 

A loud appeal and umpire raises his finger in affirmation. Rahane innings included five boundaries and one six.

 

Rahul Dravid walks in the middle and he is greeted with an identical delivery. At the end of 14 overs India 65-1.

Rahane and Parthiv are off to a slow but steady start as they have ensured India doesn't lose wickets to the new ball.

 

Rahane have looked the aggresive off the two smashing a six off Steven Finn, who has been England's best bowler so far.

 

Rahane brought up India's 50 with a slog boundary off Finn. Next ball, Rahane gets an outside edge over the slip cordon for another boundary. Finn can't believe his luck.

 

14 runs from the over as India were 57-0 after 12 overs. Rahane is going strong on 37, while Parthiv is on 15.

Anderson continues as Rahane gets a leg bye. Anderson digs one short to Patel as the left-hander pulls one for a maximum over midwicket.

 

One ball later Patel goes for another pull, top-edging one for another boundary. Anderson is not impressed.

 

Finn at the other end manages to find the edge of Rahane's bat, but it dissects the wicketkeeper and first slip perfectly for a boundary.

 

Last ball of Finn's over and Rahane sits up nicely on the backfoot to cream one through the off-side for the second boundary off the over. 

India were 33-0 after 8 overs. Partiv is on 13, while Rahane is on 15.

After being put into bat first, India are off to a slow start, thanks to some terrific bowling from the England new ball bowlers.

 

Steven Finn and James Anderson have been on the money, especially Finn, who has been generating good pace.

 

An excellent over from Finn as India were 8-0 after four overs.

Towering Steven Finn to share the new ball with Anderson and he is on the money right away.

 

Finn is generating good pace as Rahane finally manages to get bat on ball -- no run though.

Indian openers Parthiv Patel and Ajinkya Rahane walk on a bright and sunny day at Lord's as James Anderson will open the attack for England.

 

Anderson has troubled Indian batsmen through out the summer. Patel gets going with a couple through midwicket, where Ben Stokes makes a diving stop.

 

That has been the difference -- the fielding. Patel takes a single and now action turns to Rahane, who has been impressive in the ODI sereis.

 

Rahane off the mark, with a nice little tap on the leg side. India 6-0 after the first over.

Welcome to live update of the fourth One-day International between England and India at Lord's.

 

England skipper Alastair Cook wins the toss again and have decided to put the visitors in the middle. England have made one change to their side as Jade Dernbach misses out the fourth ODI. Steven Finn gets his first game in the series.

 

India, however, surprisingly are going in with the unchanged side. No place for Varun Aaron yet.
