IPL updates: Kolkata edge past Rajasthan at Eden Gardens

Shakib Al Hasan has come out to bat. KKR reach the 100-run mark in the 16th over. 

Hogg strikes in his final over, having Tiwary (24) stumped. He ends with impressive figures of one for 20. Trivedi concedes eight runs in his penultimate over. 

Shakib (16) hits Amit Singh for a maximum in the penultimate over to almost seal the issue for the home team. However, the bowler has his revenge the next ball having Shakib caught by Menaria. Yusuf Pathan hits a boundary off the last ball to level the scores.

The Kallis-Bisla stand yielded Kolkata 48 runs off 41 balls and laid the foundation of the innings. 

Manoj Tiwary comes out to bat. An important period for Kolkata this. 

Botha ends his spell with figures of one for 22. Chavan back into the attack and Tiwary welcomes him with a maximum, the first boundary for KKR in more than four overs. 

Chavan's third over costs Rajasthan 13 runs and comes as a relief for the home team. Dravid hands Ashok Menaria the ball in the 15th over. He strikes off his fifth ball, having Bisla (29) caught by Rahane.

Brad Hogg is brought into the attack in the eighth over, replacing Singh (3-0-17-0). He concedes just three runs first up. 

Siddharth Trivedi into the attack in the ninth over and Bisla welcomes with a boundary second ball. Nine come off Trivedi's first over even as KKR go into the first strategic time out comfortably placed at 61 for one - another 71 needed off 11 with nine wickets intact.

Kallis hits the first ball after resumption for a boundary even as Hogg goes for seven.

However, Botha strikes in the next over, getting the vital wicket of Kallis (31) out leg before.

Ankeet Chavan replaces Botha (2-0-15-0) in the attack in the fifth over. He gives away just four runs. 

Singh's third over albeit is an expensive one, with both Kallis and Bisla helping himself to boundaries as 10 come off the over. 

Bisla's brief is simple: to up the tempo. He steps out and smashes Chavan over extra cover for his second boundary.

Gambhir (11) is run out in the fourth over, Singh (the bowler) taking advantage of the confusion between the Kolkata captain and Kallis.

"This Eden pitch reminds me of 1996, India vs Sri Lanka," says Sanjay Manjrekar. 

Gautam Gambhir and Jacques Kallis open the batting for the home team and it is Johan Botha starting with the ball for Rajasthan. 

Ten off the over with Gambhir hitting an inside out shot for his first boundary and hit a superb late cut for his second. Amit Singh shares the new ball. He concedes only three runs.

Balaji to bowl the final over. 

Botha finds the boundary in the third ball. It is the first boundary in 18 balls. 

Two balls later, Hodge smashes a maximum, the second of the Rajasthan innings and a timely one at that. 

Balaji's final over has cost Kolkata 15 runs. 

Kolkata has restricted Rajasthan to 131 for five. 

However, the final over and the slow nature of the wicket will give the visitors hope.

Sunil Narine bowls the penultimate over. He strikes first ball, having Owais Shah (31) stumped. 

It is a typical Eden wicket at this time of the year, with the ball turning vigorously. So much so that even Balaji was getting turn. Scoring runs has been and will be difficult on this wicket. 

Johan Botha comes out to bat and fails to score off the first three balls.

Shakib gets himself a third wicket, having Shreevats Goswami (24) caught by Balaji at short midwicket. 

Goswami's 22-ball knock was inclusive of a boundary and a six and he put on 59 runs (in 50 balls) for the fifth wicket with Shah. Shakib finishes his four overs with impressive figures of three for 17.

Rajasthan 113 for four after 18 overs.

Goswami and Shah are slowly but surely building a partnership here for Rajasthan. 

Goswami is doing the job of the aggressor while Shah is dropping anchor. The former slams Rajat Bhatia for a maximum over midwicket in the latter's second over. 

Shah joins the party with a boundary in the same over, one that costs Kolkata 16 runs.

Rajasthan 101 for three after 16 overs. Time for the second strategic timeout.

Shakib strikes a second time, having Rahul Dravid (28) caught by Manoj Tiwary at short cover. It is a poor shot by Dravid. 

Rajasthan, from being comfortably-placed at 46 without loss have slumped to 49 for three. 

Owais Shah comes out to join Shreevats Goswami. The latter infuses some energy in the Rajasthan innings hitting Yusuf Pathan for a couple of boundaries.

He strikes first ball, having Rahane (19) stumped. Just two runs come off the over. 

Yusuf Pathan is handed the ball in the eighth over. Ashok Menaria (1) is run out in the over.

Dravid helps himself to a second boundary in Balaji's second over, a super shot flicked over the in-field. 

The Rajasthan captain gets his third in Kallis' second over, a pull shot doing the trick.With pace failing to get him an early breakthrough, Gambhir hands the ball to Sunil Narine in the fifth over. 

Rahane welcomes the West Indies spinner by smashing his fourth ball to the fence. The fifth ball is meted out the same treatment. 

Dravid continues his good start coming down the ground and smashing Kallis straight back to the fence. It is his third boundary of the innings. His fourth also comes in the same over.

Rahul Dravid and Ajinkya Rahane open the batting for Rajasthan while it will be Lakshmipathy Balaji starting the proceedings for Kolkata. 

The visiting captain starts off with a second ball boundary, capitalising on the width offered by the bowler. That happens to be the lone scoring shot in the opening over.

Jacques Kallis will share the new ball, bowling from the pavilion end. Rahane too begins with a second ball boundary, an exquisite shot through extra cover.

Rajasthan Royals won the toss and elected to bat first in their Indian Premier League match against Kolkata Knight Riders at the Eden Gardens on Friday. 

"We would like to set a score. The wicket looks a dry one and anything above 150 should be a good score," reasoned captain Rahul Dravid.

Gautam Gambhir, his opposite number, agreed.

"I would have liked to bat first as well," he admitted.
