Pune 156-3 (19.2 ovs) vs Chennai 155-5

Young Yo Mahesh has been given the responsibility to bowl the final over. Pune need 10 runs from six balls with two set batsmen out in the middle.

The first ball is a full toss on the pads and Smith flicks it past the short fine leg fielder for a boundary. Poor start from Mahesh to begin the final over...perhaps the pressure is too much for him to handle!

Six needed from five balls for victory.

Smith ends in the match in style as he lofts Mahesh over the cover region for a six as the ball goes through the hands of Jadeja on the boundary.

Smith is the hero with the bat for Pune with a cracking innings of 44 from 22 balls. Ryder held the innings together with a quick innings of 73 from 56 balls as the two batsmen put on an unbroken stand of 66 runs from 40 balls to take their team to victory.

Did Dhoni make a mistake in giving the inexperienced Mahesh the crucial final over when he had Morkel and Bravo to fall back on? In the end, it was good sensible batting from Ryder and the cameo from Smith that did the trick for Pune.

Smith finds the boundary at last as hit a low full toss down the ground for a SIX!!! Bravo is unlucky off the next ball as Smith gets a thick outside edge off a full delivery and it goes past Dhoni for a boundary.

Smith is beaten off the next ball and the last ball also is a dot ball as the Aussie batsman walks across his stumps, trying to play it over the short fine leg fielder but misses the ball.

Pune now need 22 runs from the last two overs for victory.

Pune 122-3 (17 ovs) vs Chennai 155-5

Kulasekara back into the attack at a crucial time for Chennai. Smith misses the first ball as he looks to play a big shot. Smith hits a full toss down the ground for a single and Ryder hits the next ball on the leg side for one.

Ryder then hits the next ball to long-off but an unnecessary throw which hits the stumps gets the left-hander two runs. The Kiwi batsman is beaten off the last ball as Kulasekara gives away just five runs in that over.

Pune now need 39 runs from four overs for victory.

Pune 106-3 (15 ovs) vs Chennai 155-5

Ashwin back to bowl his final over. Smith takes a single off the first ball while Ryder gets a single off the third ball. Smith dances down the wicket and chips it over the bowler for just one. Ryder then smashes one through the covers but Vijay makes a good diving stop to save a couple of runs.

Six runs from Ashwin's final over, who ends his spell of four over giving away just 19 runs.

Apparently, Ashwin tried to run out Smith as he thought the right-hander was backing too far at the non-striker's end. The two players had a heated exchange of words at the end of that over.

Pune 100-3 (14 ovs) vs Chennai 155-5

Ryder takes a single off the first ball of Raina's final over. Smith wastes no time in cutting loose as he slog sweeps Raina over midwicket for a SIX!!!

Pune 90-3 (13 ovs) vs Chennai 155-5

Ryder breaks the shackles as he pulls Yo Mahesh through midwicket for a four to bring up his half-century from 36 balls. The next ball is a dot ball as Ryder hits it straight to mid-on. The Kiwi left-hander is unhappy with his partner Samuels, something said in between the overs.

And now things get worse for Pune as Samuels is bowled by Mahesh as he attempts a wild slog on the leg side.

Was it the argument with Ryder that made Samuels lose his cool and try that wild shot?

New batsman Steven Smith cannot get a run off the last two balls as Pune reach 90 for three in 13 overs, needing 66 from seven overs for victory.

Mahesh concedes just five runs in that over, while taking the wicket of Samuels.

Pacer Yo Mahesh into the attack now. He starts with a dot ball to Samuels before a misfield at deep point gives the right-hander two runs off the next ball. The West Indian hits the next ball straight to midwicket.

Mahesh has a loud appeal for LBW against Samuels turned down rightly as the ball was drifting down the leg side as the batsman gets two leg byes from it.

Ryder ends Pune's long wait for a boundary as he cuts a short ball past the point fielder for a four.

Pune now need 75 runs from nine overs for victory.

Pune need 90 from 11 overs for victory. Samuels and Ryder will need to build a good partnership here to keep their team in the hunt.

Raina continues to keep it tight as Pune can only manage six singles from his second over. Pune's last boundary came in the sixth over and they need a few boundaries in the next couple of overs to keep things in control.

At the halfway stage, Pune have reached 72 for two and need another 84 runs in 60 balls for victory.

- Scorecard: Pune vs Chennai

Pune 66-2 (9 ovs) vs Chennai 155-5

Pune lose another wicket to a run out. This time it is the vital wicket of their captain Ganguly. Ryder cuts a short ball from Ashwin and the two batsmen try to steal a second run after a misfield from Jadeja at deep point but a quick flat to the bowler's end catches Ganguly short.

Ryder has been involved in both the run outs and he will now need to ensure that he stays on till the end.

Just three runs from Ashwin's third over as Chennai continue to dry up the runs. Pune have scored just 10 runs from the last three overs while losing a wicket.

- Scorecard: Pune vs Chennai

Pune 61-1 (7 ovs) vs Chennai 155-5

Ryder chips the first ball from Ashwin to long-off to get a single. Ganguly is constantly chatting to the temperamental Ryder, hoping that the left-hander will not throw away his wicket at a crucial juncture.

Ganguly takes a single off the next ball and Ryder pulls the next ball to deep midwicket for another one. Five singles from that over from Ashwin as Pune continue to progress at a good rate.

The Pune captain then offers no shot to the next ball while getting a single off the next ball. Ryder then picks up the slower ball from Bravo and crashes it through the ring of fielders on the off-side for a four.

Ryder ends the over with a single as Pune reach 56 for one after six overs.

- Scorecard: Pune vs Chennai

Pune 48-1 (5 ovs) vs Chennai 155-5

Chennai introduce spin in the form of R Ashwin with an obvious view to keep Ryder quiet. Ganguly plays the first ball to fine leg for a single and Ryder does the same two balls later. Ashwin is happy to keep it straight as both the left-hander milk him for singles on the leg side as the off-spinner concedes five runs in his opening over.

- Scorecard: Pune vs Chennai

Pune 43-1 (4 ovs) vs Chennai 155-5

Ganguly walks in to bat at number 3. He starts off in his trademark fashion, driving a wide delivery from Morkel through the covers for a boundary. Ryder also gets another four a couple of balls later as Morkel drifts it on the pads and the left-hander helps it fine on the leg side. He then tries to steer it past the short thirdman fielder but hits it straight to the fielder inside the circle.

Three more runs in that over as Pune reach 43 for one after four overs.

- Scorecard: Pune vs Chennai

Pune 31-1 (3 ovs) vs Chennai 155-5

Ryder chips the first ball from Kulasekara over the umpire to get a couple. A couple of balls later Ryder flicks it past the midwicket fielder for a four and then clips the next ball for another boundary to the square leg region.

Ryder makes it a hat-trick of fours as he smashes the next ball from Kulasekara down the ground as the mid-on fielder can only watch it crash into the boundary.

But against the run of play, Pune lose the wicket of Uthappa, who is run out for 10 attempting a tight second run. A good throw from Bravo at deep midwicket to the bowler caught Uthappa short of his crease as he hesitated a bit at the start of his second run.
22:06
- Scorecard: Pune vs Chennai

Pune 16-0 (2 ovs) vs Chennai 155-5

It's all pace for Chennai at the start as Albie Morkel comes on to bowl the second over. Uthappa defends the first ball and then chips the next ball over midwicket for a SIX!!! He steers the next ball to the thirdman region for a single.

Ganguly's move of promoting Uthappa to open the batting ahead of him could turn out to be a masterstroke. Ryder also gets a single and Uthappa gets two runs off the next as Jadeja's wayward throw has no back up fielders.

A huge appeal for LBW against Uthappa off the final ball but the umpire is not interested.

A good start for Pune as they get 10 runs from that over.
22:01
- Scorecard: Pune vs Chennai

Pune 6-0 (1 over) vs Chennai 155-5

Pune need 156 for victory, a target they will feel comfortable on this wicket. They will need Robin Uthappa and Jesse Ryder to get them off to a flying start in the first few overs and things will get easier then.

Nuwan Kulasekara opens the bowling for Chennai. He starts with a wide down the leg side and Uthappa takes a single two balls later to get off the mark. Ryder pull a short ball but sharp fielding from Bravo at square leg saves a certain boundary as the batsmen get two runs. The Kiwi left-hander then chips the last ball over the off-side field to get two more runs.

The dangerous Albie Morkel walks out to bat, with six balls to go in the innings. Can he make a difference yet again?

Chennai continue to lose wickets at the end. Now Jadeja falls as he looks to hit a big shot, but Smith comes up with another neat catch at long-on. Jadeja falls after a quick knock of 44 from 26 balls.

Chennai have failed to get going in the last few overs as Pune keep them in check with regular wickets.

Morkel drills it down the ground but can get only a single as he is now joined by Dwayne Bravo. The West Indian can only take a single as Nehra keeps it full and straight.

Once again Nehra is left frustrated as the final ball of that over goes for a boundary. Bravo gets a thick outside edge as the ball speeds past the wicketkeeper for a four to end the innings.

Chennai 140-3 (18 ovs) vs Pune

Jadeja takes a single from the first ball of Samuel's new over. The next ball is full and quick and Dhoni can only block it while he gets two runs from the third ball. Samuels is bowling well above the 120kmph mark as Chennai can only milk him for ones and twos. But he decides to flight the fifth ball and Jadeja has enough to get under it and loft him over long-on for a SIX!!!

11 runs from that over from Samuels as Chennai continue to push to a total above the 160-run mark.

Dinda back after that single over from Samuels. He starts with a full toss and Dhoni can only hit it towards long-on where quick work from Smith keep the batsmen down to one. Jadeja also hits a full toss to Smith for a single as Chennai fail to get a boundary in that region, with just five singles coming from that over.

Nehra to continue as Dhoni keeps rotating the strike, not looking for the big shots yet. Jadeja clips Nehra on the leg side for two runs and then steers it to thirdman for one. Dhoni then guides a full ball past the point fielder for two runs and gets a single off the next.

But once again the over is spoilt off the final ball as Jadeja gets a thick outside edge, looking to blast it through the off-side, and it goes for a four. Nehra is unhappy as the four takes the tally from the over to 11 runs.
21:15
- Scorecard: Pune vs Chennai

Chennai 114-3 (15 ovs) vs Pune

Marlon Samuels back to bowl his third over after a tight first spell. And the West Indian off-spinner continues to bowl it flat and quick, not giving the batsmen to work with. Just four singles from the first five balls before Jadeja spoils the over by hitting it through the covers for a four.

With seven wickets in hand, it is time for Chennai to cut loose, maybe Jadeja will try to hit a few big ones.

Rahul Sharma is back for his second spell. Pune need a couple of wickets here, especially du Plessis, else Chennai look good to post a huge total. They have a lot of depth in their batting and lot of big hitters to follow.

And Sharma delivers with the big wicket of du Plessis. The Chennai opener charges down the wicket but it beaten by the extra bounce from the leg-spinner as Robin Uthappa completes an easy stumping.

Du Plessis is out after a cracking innings of 43 from 33 balls, having hit five fours and two sixes.
