IPL Updates: Rajasthan thump Bangalore by 59 runs

Riding high on a unbeaten century from Ajinkya Rahane, Rajasthan Royals thrashed hosts Royal Challengers Bangalore by 59 runs.

 

Chasing a mammoth 196 for victory, Bangalore were bundled out for 59 runs.

 

Mayank Agarwal started on a positive note before Pankaj Singh provided the breakthrough and since then they haven't looked back.

 

Gayle clearly out of form, hit a massive six, but was cleaned up by Pankaj Singh in the same over.

 

After that Amit Trivedi took over and ensured that the visitors will walk home comfortably as winners of the game.

Amit Trivedi two wickets in one over has effectively ensured that there is only one way traffic here.

 

Trivedi first picked up Saurabh Tiwary off the first ball after he clean bowled the left hander, then three balls later he castled Daniel Vettori's timber to finish with figures of 4-25 from his four overs.

 

Interestingly all the four wickets have been clean bowled as Bangalore were 105-6 after 15 overs.

The pressure of a high score is showing as AB de Villiers, Virat Kohli depart in quick succession.

 

Amit Trivedi the bolwer, whoc picks up both the wickets in almost the identical fashion.

 

A slower one from Trivedi as de Villiers goes back to flick it on the on side -- gets an inside edge as the ball crashes onto the leg stump.

 

Kohli, then rooted on to his crease missed a straight one which darted back a bit, hitting his middle-off stump.

 

Rajasthan Royals well and truly on top now was RCB were 79-4 after 11 overs.

Pankaj Singh picked up two wickets in an over after the Royal Challengers were off to a postivie start.

 

Singh first had Mayank Agarwal, who was caught at covers for 34, before castling the big fish Chris Gayle for just 8.

 

Bangalore were 42-2 after five overs.

Royal Challenegers Bangalore are off to a positive start chasing a mammoth 196 for victory.

 

Mayank Agarwal is the aggressor smashing spinner Johan Botha to all corners of the park.

 

Agarwal smashed couple of sixes and a boundary to set the tone of the chase. Gayle at the other end, smashed Amit Singh for a humungous six.

 

At the end of four overs, Bangalore were 39-0. Agarwal is on 30, while Gayle is on 8.

Ajinkya Rahane smashed a brilliant 57-ball 100 to become the player to hit a century in IPL 5, which helped Rajasthan Royals reach 195-2.

 

Rahane who had previously hit a brilliant 98 against Kings XI Punjab, reached the landmark with boundary off Vinay Kumar in the final over. 

 

Owais Shah proved to the perfect partner who himself smashed 26-ball 60, smoking five boundries and five sixes.

 

Such was their dominance that last seven overs have produced 117 runs -- last five 82 runs at a run rate of 16.40.

 

Rahane was particularly severe on Sreenath Arvind smashing six consecutive boundries -- a first in IPL seasons so far.

Ajinkya Rahane and Owais Shah have turned the heat on Royal Challengers in the final overs hitting the bowlers with utter disdain.

 

Overs no. 14, 16 and 17 have produced more than 20 runs an over, which has changed the course of the match.

 

Owais Shah has been  a perfect partner for Rahane smashing a half-century off just 19 balls.

 

Pace or spin there was little effect on the duo as Rajasthan were 175-1 after 18 overs. Rahane is closing in on a century, while Shah is on 56.

Ajinkay Rahane smashed a 41-ball 50 to put Royals in command against Royal Challengers here at the Chinnaswamy Stadium.

 

Rahane took a liking to Sreenath Arvind smashing him for 24 runs -- 6 boundaries to be precise -- as the momentum took a huge leap in Royals' favour.

 

Royals were 82-1 after 13 overs, and the score jumped to 106-1 after the end of 14 overs.

 

Rahane is on 72, while Shah is on nine.

Daniel Vettori provies the first breakthrough for Royal Challengers as he had Rahul Dravid stumped for 25.

 

Dravid chipped down the track -- Vettori pushes one flatter -- misses the ball -- AB De Villiers does the rest.

 

Royals were 65-1 after 11 overs. Rahane is on 39, while Owais Shah who has come in at No. 3 is on two.

Ajinkya Rahane and Rahul Dravid are off to a good start against Royal Challengers bringing in the 50-runs stand in the eight over.

 

Rahane was the aggressor of the two, before Dravid joined in by hitting the Bangalore bowlers to all corners.

 

Rahane found a special liking to Sreenath Arvind smashing him for a six and a couple of boundaries to set the ball rolling for the Royals.

 

Vettori and Muralitharan have sort of pulled back a bit on a dry pitch, but have failed to make any makor breakthrough.

 

At the end of nine overs Royals were 57-0. Rahane is on 34, while Dravid is on 23.

Rajasthan Royals are off to a solid start courtesy of an attacking Ajinkya Rahane who has taken a special liking to Sreenath Arvind.

 

Rahane two boundries in the first over of the left-arm seamer to start the proceedings for the vistiors.

 

Zaheer Khan followed it with third maiden of the IPL 5, before Rahane cut loose on Arvind again smashing him for a six and boundary to make it 15 runs from Arvind's over.

 

At the end of four over, Royals were 26-0. Rahane is on 19, while Dravid is on seven.

Rajasthan Royals have won the toss and have elected to bat first against Royal Challengers Bangalore at the Chinnaswamy Stadium.

 

The pitch that looks like a dry pitch should ideally suit the bastmen and Rahul Dravid feels it will stay good for the 40 overs.

 

Bad news for Rajasthan as their in form Kevon Cooper is out with an injury and in comes Pankaj Singh for Ankeet Chavhan, which means they will have Owais Shah, Brad Hogg, Brad Hodge and Johan Botha as foreign players.

 

Bangalore too have made two changes to their side bringing in Sreenath Arvind and Mohammad Kaif.

Kings XI Punjab successfully defended 134, to beat Kolkata Knight Riders by two runs.

 

Kolkata looked set to be heading the targer comfortably before losing four wickets in space of three overs, which swithced the momentum back in the favour of the visitors.

 

Piyush Chawla was the leader of the pack as he picked up two crucial  wickets in one over to turn the tide.

 

Debrata Das tried his best to put Kolkata back in the game but didn't get much support from the other end.

 

In the end requiring nine runs from the final over, they could only manage 132-7.

Piyush Chawla has got three wickets in space of two overs to reduce Kolkata from a healthy 72-2 to 88-6.

 

Chawla's latest victim Shakib al Hasan who skied one back to the bowler for four. Chawla have picked up the wickets of Manvinder Bisla, Yusf Pathan as his figures read 3-18 from his four overs.

 

At the end of 16 overs, Kolkata were 99-6.

Just when Manvinder Bisla and Manoj Tiwary looked to have steadied the ship somewhat for Kolkata, Bhargav Bhatt catches Tiwary right in front of the stumps for 21.

 

Punjab did manage to apply pressure by strangulating the batsmen as Manoj Tiwary plants his foot to a straight delivery -- a huge appeal and umpire raises the finger in affirmation.

 

Next up a peach of delivery to Shakib al Hasan, which beat him for turn as the Bangladesh all-rounder looked to crash it through the covers -- misses Gilly as well -- 4 byes.

 

Next up Piyush Chawla castles in form Manvinder Bisla for 27. Looks like a googly from the leg-spinner, which beat the defence of Bisla -- big wicket.

 

Two balls later he had the big fish Yusuf Pathan bowled round his legs for nought...Pathan looking to sweep the ball misses the ball completly and the ball crashes on the leg stump.

 

Kolkata have now lost three wickets in four balls as the hosts were 79-5 after 13 overs.

After Kallis, its Gautam Gambhir's turn to walk back to the pavillion after he gives a dolly to Dimitri Mascarenhas for 22.

 

Mascarenhas who was hit for a massive six by Manvinder Bisla struck as he bowls a length ball -- lazy shot from Gambhir as he hits one straight to the bowler.

 

At the end of four overs, Kolkata were 33-2.

Punjab have made a crucial breakthrough as a Paras Dogra stunner sees Kallis walking back to the pavillion for 14.

 

Kallis gives himself a bit of room looking to scoop one over point but up comes Dogra who leaps to take the ball out of thin air.

 

Kolkata were 22-1 after three overs.

A brilliant five-for from Sunil Narine have restricted Kings XI Punjab to 134-9.

 

Narine finished with 5-19 from his four overs

 

Narine along with Rajat Bhatia (2-14) and Shaib al Hasan (1-26) strangulated the Punjab batsmen in the middle and never let them in the game.

 

A crucial 52-runs stand between Mandeep Singh and David Hussey ensured that Punjab recover from the early losses.

 

Harmeet Singh (14) used the long handle to good effect, before becoming the 5th victim of Narine.

 

Mandeep Singh was the top-scorer for Punjab with 38.

Rajat Bhatia picked up two wickets in one over to peg Punjab back.

 

Bhatia first had Paras Dogra who sliced one to Debrata Das for six, while Dimitri Mascarenhas edged one to Bisla for nought.

 

Then in the very next over Sunil Narine had Bipul Sharma caught behind for 12. A nice flighted delivery from Narine has Bipul Sharma pushing at it hard, getting a faintest of edges.

 

Up Next Praveen Kumar is castled by a peach of a delivery -- the one that turned the other way.

 

Punjab were 104-8 after 18 overs.

Punjab continue to lose wickets at crucial time as they David Hussey fall courtesy off a mix-up.

 

Kolkata have been lethargic on the field but this time round Paras Dogra sold a complete dummy to Hussey.

 

Dogra plays on through the covers and takes a couple of steps then realises that he will not be able to make it and then refuses.

 

But its too late as Hussey doesn't have enough time to turn back and make it in time.

 

Punjab were 87-4 after 15 overs. Dogra is on 3, while Bipul Sharma is on one.

Shakib Al Hasan in his second spell makes a crucial breakthrough as he now has Mandeep Singh back in the hut for 38.

 

Mandeep and David Hussey were looking to rebuild the Punjab innings, after they had lost Gilchrist and Marsh in quick succession.

 

Mandy looking to clear the boundary slog sweeps Shakib only to hit straight to Ten Doeschate at deep midwicket.

 

At the end of 12 overs Punjab were 73-3. Hussey is on 25,  Paras Dogra is in the middle on nought.

Kolkata spinners have managed to strangle Punjab batsmen who haven't been able to hit the ball past the square that frequently.

 

Sunil Narine has been brilliant up front and then Shakib al Hasan too have spun a nice web over the batsmen.

 

Gauta Gambhir has used his slower bowlers intelligently. Punjab's hopes will rest on David Hussey who is looking to take the attack to the opposition.

 

At the end of nine overs, Punjab were 49-2. Mandeep Singh is on 25, while Hussey is on 14.

Welcome to the live update of the first match of the day between Kolkata Knight Riders and Kings XI Punjab.

 

Kolkata have won the toss and have elected to bowl first in a hot and sweaty condition here at the Eden Gardens.

 

Well the team news is Jayadev Unadkat replaces Balaji, who is out with a sore groin for Kolkata.

 

Punjab have made a big change dropping Paul Valthaty who has been struggling for form and in comes Paras Dogra.The other change is Bhargav Bhatt comes in for Parvinder Awana.
