IPL updates: Delhi thrash Mumbai by 37 runs

Harbhajan Singh and Lasith Malinga are fighting a lost battle here. 

Morkel concedes eight runs in his final over end with figures of one for 41. 

Umesh Yadav to bowl the final over. Malinga is dropped by Pietersen at deep cover off the second over. 

However, he gets Harbhajan (15) caught by Irfan at point. In his last ball he cleans up Malinga (11).

Mumbai Indians manage only 170 for nine in their stipulated 20 overs. 

Delhi Daredevils score their second straight win over Mumbai, on this occasion by 37 runs.

Agarkar to bowl his last over, the 15th of the innings. Pollard smashes the second ball over deep midwicket for a six. Rayudu also helps himself to a boundary as 15 runs come off the over, Agarkar finishing with figures of one for 32. 

Nadeem continues and strikes first ball, having Rayudu (62) caught by Jayawardene at midwicket. 

The spinner strikes in his second ball as well, cleaning up Pollard (16), thereby all but ending the visitor's hopes.

Mumbai 142 for six after 16 overs. Time for the second strategic timeout.

Agarkar back to bowl the 13th over and he cleans up Karthik (40) in the fifth ball. 

Karthik's 28-ball knock was inclusive of seven boundaries and he helped Rayudu put on 96 runs (off 77 balls) for the fourth wicket. Three runs and a wicket for Agarkar. 

Kieron Pollard comes out to bat. Nadeem continues and gives away nine runs , including a boundary to Pollard, in what is his third over.

Mumbai 124 for four after 14 overs.

Time for the first strategic timeout with the visitors on 78 for three. Irfan Pathan has been expensive, going for 46 runs in his four overs. 

Agarkar concedes 10 runs off his second over, including a boundary to Karthik. Mumbai 88 for three at the halfway stage. 

Yadav replaces Pathan and Karthik welcomes him with a boundary over midwicket as nine come off the over. 

Nadeem replaces Agarkar (2-0-14-0) in the 12th over and Rayudu hits successive sixes to raise his half century.

Umesh Yadav replaces Irfan Pathan (2-0-21-2) in the attack in the sixth over. Karthik welcomes him with a boundary past midwicket in the second ball. 

The fourth and the fifth balls are also dispatched to the fence as 13 runs come off Yadav's opening over. The visitors reach the 50-run mark in the seventh over. 

Ajit Agarkar handed the ball in the eighth over and he gives away just four runs.

Irfan to finish out and Rayudu welcomes him with a six over extra cover. The second ball goes over the keeper for a boundary, bringing up the 50-run partnership for the fourth wicket.

Karthik also gets a boundary over midwicket off the fourth ball as Irfan goes for 17 off his final over.

Dinesh Karthik has come out to replace Tendulkar. 

Irfan comes from the other end and strikes first ball, having Rohit Sharma (12) caught by Ajit Agarkar at mid-on. 

A disastrous start for Mumbai this, the visitors tottering at 30 for three after four overs. 

Ambati Rayudu comes out to join Karthik, who eases the pressure a bit with successive boundaries.

Apologies, Blizzard was dismissed in the third ball, not the first. 

Shahbaz Nadeem to share the new ball. In the fifth ball Tendulkar comes down the track, inside out, and hits a six over extra cover. However, it is a good over otherwise. 

Just the one over for Irfan a Morne Morkel comes in. Extra bounce does the trick for the South African as Tendulkar (7) is caught by Pietersen at mid-off.

Mumbai 19 for two after 2.2 overs.

Irfan Pathan strikes first ball for Delhi, having Aiden Blizzard (0) caught by Mahela Jayawardene at mid-on. 

It is Pathan's 100th wicket in T20 cricket. 

Mumbai off to a disastrous start. However, Rohit Sharma eases the pressure with a six off the first ball over deep square leg. Two balls later he hits a boundary.

Malinga gets two wickets in succession in his final over, getting both Taylor and Yogesh Nagar out leg before. 

It's a good over, with just two runs coming off it. Malinga ends with figures of two for 31.

RP Singh to bowl the final over. Pietersen starts with a boundary over extra cover. A single off the second ball takes him to 49. He reaches his third IPL fifty with a single two balls later, his knock having come off just 25 balls.

Delhi total a mammoth 207 for five in their stipulated 20 overs, the highest total of this edition.

It seems a lost cause for Mumbai.

Ross Taylor comes out to join Pietersen. 

Harbhajan bowls the 17th over, his final of the innings. It's and expensive one with 18 runs coming off it, with Taylor hitting a couple of sixes. 

Pietersen takes Peterson to the cleaners in the former's final over, starting with a boundary off the first ball and following it up with successive sixes off the next two balls, the latter being a switch hit over cover. 

He survives a stumping off the fifth ball and hits the final ball for a boundary as 20 runs come off Peterson's last over.

However, Malinga gets Taylor (15) out leg before in the first ball of the penultimate over.

Delhi 195 for four after 18.1 overs.

Kevin Pietersen has come out to bat at the fall of Jayawardene's wicket.

Shukla returns to replace Malinga (3-0-29-0) in the 15th over. Pietersen smashes the fourth ball over the mid-off fielder for his first boundary. 

The fifth ball is hit for a six over long-off and the final ball for another boundary as 17 runs come off the over, Delhi surpassing the 150-run mark in the over. Time for the second strategic timeout.

Peterson strikes in the first ball after resumption, having Sehwag (73) caught by RP Singh. Irfan Pathan is out in the first ball, caught by Thisera Perera at long on.

Delhi 157 for three after 16 over.

Harbhajan goes for 11 runs in his third over, with both Jayawardene and Sehwag helping themselves to boundaries. 

Malinga returns in the 13th over and is twice unfortunate as Pollard drops both the batsmen in succession, albeit both difficult chances. He injures his shoulder while attempting the second catch. 

Jayawardene reaches a well-deserved half century in the over and celebrates the same with a boundary over midwicket. 

However, Peterson strikes in the next over having Jayawardene (55) caught by Rohit Sharma at point. 

The Sri Lankan's 42-ball knock was inclusive of eight boundaries and he put on 135 runs (off just 79 balls) with his captain for the opening wicket. 

Delhi 136 for one after 14 overs.

Robin Peterson into the attack in the ninth over and Sehwag welcomes him with a six over long-on first ball. The Delhi captain has some fortune as Karthik misses a stumping chance off the next ball. 

Jayawardene ends the over with boundary off the fifth ball as 12 runs come off the over. Harbhajan concedes six runs in his second over.

Kieron Pollard replaces Peterson and starts with a big wide. The first legitimate delivery is hit for a massive six by Sehwag, one that helps him reach his half century (off just 30 balls).

The Delhi captain celebrates with a boundary and a six and another boundary as 23 runs come off Pollard's first over.

Delhi 111 without loss after 11 overs.

Rahul Shukla, a replacement for Munaf Patel, comes in to replace Malinga (2-0-16-0) in the attack in the fifth over. 

Jayawardene hits the third ball to the backward square leg boundary. RP Singh continues with his third over. 

Sehwag gets into the groove, with a boundary over point of the fourth ball and a six over long-off off the fifth, the latter helping his team get past the 50-run mark. The first strategic timeout is taken after the fifth over with Delhi well-placed on 54 without loss.

Shukla continues after the break and Sehwag smashes the fourth ball over deep midwicket for his fourth boundary. Harbhajan replaces RP (3-0-31-0) in the eighth over. He concedes seven runs including a boundary to Sehwag.

Delhi 70 without loss after eight overs.

RP Singh to share the new ball. Sehwag hits the last ball over deep point to spoil what was otherwise a good over. 

Jayawardene helps himself to successive boundaries in the first two balls of Malinga's second over. The fifth ball also goes to the fence as Malinga goes for 15 in the over. 

Jayawardene continues his onslaught with a boundary wide of mid-off in Singh's second over. Sehwag also finds the boundary in the last ball of the same over.

Ajit Agarkar replaces Pawan Negi for Delhi while it is Aiden Blizzard in place of James Franklin for Mumbai. 

The second change for Mumbai is a relief, with Lasith Malinga coming in for Clint McKay. 

Virender Sehwag and Mahela Jayawardene open the batting for Delhi while it is expectedly Malinga first up for Mumbai. Just one runs off the first over.

Mumbai Indians win the toss and invited Delhi Daredevils to bat first in their Indian Premier League match at the Ferozshah Kotla on Friday.

"We would like to bowl first and try to take a couple of early wickets," reasoned Harbhajan Singh, the Mumbai captain. 

"The kind of batting we have we can any total. But no problems batting first," says Virender Sehwag, his opposite number.
