IPL updates: Kolkata thrash Chennai by five wickets

Bravo gets the vital wicket of Gambhir (63) in the first ball of his final over. 

The Kolkata captain's 52-ball innings was inclusive of six boundaries and a six and he has probably done enough to see his team through. 

Debabrata Das gets seven runs off the first three balls he faces to take Kolkata closer. The visitors need just six off the last over, to be bowled by Ashwin. 

The spinner has Yusuf Pathan (12) caught by Faf du Plessis off the third ball. 

However, Das (11 not out) seals a memorable win for Kolkata with a boundary off the fourth ball. 

Kolkata win by five wickets, ensuring Chennai their third home defeat of the season.

A single off Bravo helps Gambhir reach a well-deserved half century. 

It is his fourth fifty in this edition and his 14th overall in the IPL. He celebrates the feat with successive boundaries, the latter helping Kolkata surpass the 100-run mark.

He now has the responsibility to take his team home.

Shadab Jakati to open the bowling for Chennai and it will be Gautam Gambhir and Brendon McCullum to start the chase for Kolkata. 

Gambhir hits the first ball through cover for a boundary but only seven runs come off the over otherwise. Albie Morkel to share the new ball and he also gives away seven runs. 

R Ashwin to bowl the third over and he strikes fifth ball, having McCullum (2) caught by Jakati at mid-off. 

Jacques Kallis comes out to bat.

MS Dhoni remains unbeaten on 34 and Albie Morkel on 13.

Kallis strikes in his final over, having Raina (44) caught by Pathan. 

Raina's 34-ball knock was inclusive of four boundaries and a six but he threw his wicket away at a time when Chennai could ill afford to.

Abdulla replaces Lee (2-0-12-1) in the attack in the sixth over. Raina hits the third ball through backward square leg for a four while Bravo smashes the final ball over the deep midwicket fence for a maximum. 

Jacques Kallis bowls the seventh over and Raina welcome shim with a boundary first ball through covers. Chennai reach the 50-run mark in the over.

Iqbal Abdulla opens the bowling for Kolkata while it is Mike Hussey and Faf du Plessis opening the batting for Chennai. Four runs come off the first over. 

Brett Lee to share the new ball. He strikes fourth ball, having Du Plessis (3) caught behind.

Chennai Super Kings won the toss and elected to bat first in their Indian Premier League match against Kolkata Knight Riders at the M Chidambaram stadium on Monday. 

"It looks like a good wicket and we would look to take some pressure off by putting some runs on the board," reasoned captain MS Dhoni.

Chennai has made two changes to the starting line up. Mike Hussey comes in for Nuwan Kulasekara and Wridhimann Saha makes way for Yo Mahesh. 

"It is not going to change too much. We are happy with whatever we do," said Gautam Gambhir, the Kolkata captain.

The visitors are fielding the same side that beat Bangalore on Saturday.
