England finish the opening day on 199 for five after 97 overs at stumps on the opening day.

Prior and Root rescued the visitors with a vital unbroken stand of 90 runs from 29.3 overs after they were reeling at 139 for five at one stage.

Debutant Root was particularly impressive, as he made 31 not out from 110 balls, with just one boundary. Prior also used his utility with the ball, with a composed innings of 34 from 83 balls, having hit three fours.
