Ishant bowled a four-over spell after lunch before Ojha replaces him. He gets one to turn sharply beating Pietersen outside the off-stump. The next ball is a bit fuller and Pietersen wristly steers it past point for three runs. 91-2 (43 overs)

Ashwin then gets one to turn sharply as Pietersen edges it on the leg side which evades keeper Dhoni for a boundary to bring up the right-hander's half-century from 108 balls. Once again, KP has come up with a vital knock in times of crisis.

His sparkling hundred on a difficult wicket in the second Test at the Wankhede stadium in Mumbai literally around England's fortune in the series.

This was Pietersen's 29th half-century in Tests and sixth against India.
