Australia thrash hapless India by 110 runs

Ben Hilfenhaus's brilliant bowling spell ensured that Australia thump India by 110 runs to move on top of the table.

 

Putting a massive total of 288-5, Australia bundled India out for 178, which also meant that the hosts move on top of the table with the bonus point.

 

For India MS Dhoni waged the lone battle with 56 as Hilfenhaus finished with 5-33 off his 9.3 overs.

Ben Hilfenhaus back into the attack and strikes immediately.

 

A short delivery from Hilfenhaus tucks Dhoni up as he goes for a pull but couldn't clear the infield in the end tossing a simple catch to Christian at short midwicket.

 

That should be it for India as Aussies would now look to wrap the game with the bonus point. Dhoni was back in the hut for 56.

 

At the end of 38 overs India were 151-7.

MS Dhoni smashed a brilliant 76-ball 50 to keep India afloat despite losing wickets at the other end. 

 

India took the batting Powerplay 35th over as Dhoni smashed a six and boundary off Brett Lee to bring his half-century.

 

At the end of 35th over, India were 139-6. Dhoni is on 52, while Irfan Pathan is on seven.

Looks like MS Dhoni is fighting a lone battle as Ravindra Jadeja becomes the sixth wicket to fall for India.

 

Jadeja looking to force the pace scoops one on the offside, where Forres takes a running catch to inflict more misery on India.

 

At the end of 32 over, India were 119-6. Dhoni is on 39, while Irfan Pathan is on one.

Suresh Raina is the latest Indian wicket to fall as India are looking down the barrell.

 

Daniel Christian, who is brought back for the second spell strikes as he had Raina edging one to Wade. A soft dismissal to say the least as he slashed hard at a ball outside the offstump.

 

India were 88-5. Dhoni is on 27 and is joined by Ravindra Jadeja, who is on three.

Australian pacers Brett Lee and Ben Hilfenhaus have ripped through Indian top order as the visitors were reeling at 37-4 at one point. 

 

Chasing 289 for victory, Indian batsmen never looked set on the crease. However skipper MS Dhoni and Suresh Raina are fighting it hard in the middle to make a match out of it.

 

At the end of 19 overs India were 65-4. Dhoni is on 17, while Raina is on 20.

India are in all sorts of trouble as now Virat Kohli has make the long walk back to the pavillion for 12.

 

Ben Hilfenhaus the man who will have the wicket to his name. Hilfenhaus bowls the perfect channel outside the off stump as Kohli goes for the drive catching the edge of the bat.

 

David Hussey take a neat low catch but the umpires want to have a second look. This time round umpires prefer to chat as Steve Davis slowly walks into position and raises the finger.

 

Kohli can't believe it but he will have to go as India slump to 37-4.

Ben Hilfenhaus now catches the big fish as he sends Sachin Tendulkar back to the pavillion for just three runs to his name.

 

Tendulkar clearly hampered by the leg injury played one to the third man straight to Xavier Doherty much to the delight of Aussie fans.

 

Then in the very next over Brett Lee had Rohit Sharma walking back to the pavillion without even troubling the scorers.

 

India were 16-3 after 5.5 overs.

Brett Lee strikes in his first over as he removes in-form Gautam Gambhir with a peach of a delivery.

 

Outside the off stump, Gambhir was tentative -- no movement of feet as he gets a faint edge back to wicketkeeper Matthew Wade.

 

India were 8-1 after 2 overs.

Half centuries from Mike Hussey and Peter Forrest have powered Australia to a competitive 288-5 at the end of 50 overs.

 

Late blows from Daniel Chirstian and David Hussey saw the hosts comfortably cross 250-run mark as last 10 over produced  more than 100 runs.

 

In the 48th over, Christian hit four boundaries as the duo put on a 50-run stand off just 29 balls for the sixth wicket.

 

Earlier, Mike Hussey and Forrest revived Aussies from a precarious positions as they were struggling at 117-3 in 27.4 overs.

 

Hussey made 59 off 52 balls, while Forrest struck his second ODI half-century before he was finally out for 52.

 

For India, Irfan Pathan was the most successful bowler with 3-61.

Indians have finally managed to get Mike Hussey as he was caught in the deep by Suresh Raina off Irfan Pathan.

 

Hussey who had been dropped twice made 59 off 52 balls with six boundaries.

 

Hussey was involved in a crucial 100-runs stand for fourth wicket with Peter Forrest to revive the hosts from a precarious position.

 

Then in the last ball of the over, Pathan had well-set Forrest too walking back, courtesy a brilliant catch from Virat Kohli for 52.

 

At the end of 44 overs Australia were 223-5.

Mike Hussey has revived Australian innings with a quickfire half-century.

 

Hussey came in when Australians were reeling at 117-3, but he along with Peter Forrest have put the hosts back on course for a 250- plus score.

 

Indians too were poor in the field dropping Hussey twice as the left-hander reached the landmark with a single off Irfan Pathan.

 

Australia were 197-3 after 41 overs. Hussey is ably supported by Peter Forrest who is batting on 39.

Mike Hussey and Peter Forrest have steadied the ship for now with a 50-runs stand for the fourth wicket.

 

They have largely been helped by Indians as well as they have dropped three catches -- the thrid one being of Hussey by Umesh Yadav.

 

With the Aussies taking the batting Powerplay, Aussies will now look to push the tempo.

 

At the end of 38 overs Australia were 167-3. Hussey is on 32, while Forrest is on 26.

Indians continue to stifle Aussies as Wade departs for 45. Wade was getting frustrated in the middle as he could never really get going.

 

Rohit Sharma enticed Wade to go for a drive -- as he looped the ball in the air back to the bowler.

 

Indians have managed to keep a check on Aussie scoring right from the start on a pitch that looks good for batting.

 

Next over a comedy of errors! The third umpire presses the wrong button!

 

Dhoni appeals for a stumping as Raina bowls from round the wicket and beats Hussey on the drive through the off side, Hussey drags his back foot back and a part of his boot is behind the crease.

 

The giant screen shows Hussey is out, as the on field umpires calls Hussey back -- Dhoni is not happy.

 

At the end of 31 overs Australia were 131-3. Forrest is on 15, while Hussey is on 10.

Zaheer Khan in his comeback spell now removes skipper Ricky Ponting.

 

Ponting was struggling in the middle as he could only manage seven runs from 26 ball and was slowing down the rate.

 

Ponting looking to break the shackles tries to loft but ends up in the backward square leg's hands, where Irfan Pathan takes a neat catch.

 

Australians were 85-2 after 20 overs. Wade is on 26, while Forrest is yet to open his account.

Irfan Pathan gave India the much-needed breakthrough as he had David Warner walking back to the pavillion for 43.

 

Warner who was looking to taking the game away from the Indians after a sedate start, chipped one straight to Sachin Tendulkar at short midwicket.

 

Australia were 71-1 after 14 overs. Wade is on 20 alongwith Ricky Ponting who is yet to open his account.

After a sedate start, David Warner cut loose as the left hander smashed 14 runs off Zaheer Khan.

 

Indian pacers have bowled well and looked like something was round the corner before Warner decided to take it to the Indians.

 

The openers have put on a 50-runs stand, which can be called as slow but a steady start.

 

At the end of 10 overs Australia were 51-0. Warner is on 29, while Wade is on 15.

Indian pacers Zahher Khan and Vinay Kumar have kept a tight check on Australian openers David Warner and Matthew Wade.

 

Although Zaheer was robbed off a wicket when Rohit Sharma spilled a catch of Wade, but all in all, the openers were able to only hit one boundary in five overs.

 

At the end of 5 overs Australians were 17-0. Wade is on 6, while Warner is on 9.

Australia have won the toss and have elected to bat first in Brisbane.

 

Ricky Ponting who is capting the side in place of Michael Clarke reackons it's a good batting track and the ball will swing under lights.

 

India had won the by four wickets the last time these two teams met and since then Aussies have lost to Sri Lanka as well. India is sitting pretty at the top of the table and would like to maintain their domination.

 

Both teams have one change each with Ben Hilfenhaus coming in for injured Clint McKay, while Indians pace attack gets a boost with Zaheer Khan back in place of R Ashwin.
