In reply Zaheer Khan did manage to pick three quick wickets but skipper Michael Clarke and Ricky Ponting put their heads down to put up a 79 run stand for fourth wicket.

Except for Zaheer none of the Indian bowlers looked impressive as they bowled some loose deliveries to the duo in the middle.

So Australia have bundled India out for 191 with Umesh Yadav edging one to Brad Haddin to hand Siddle his 100th Test wicket on Day One of the second Test.

It's been another listless performance from the visitors but credit must go to the home team, who have been brilliant on the field.

The pace trio led by James Pattinson, demolished Indian top-order as none of the Indian batsmen made an impact except for MS Dhoni who carried his bat with an unbeaten 57.

Pattinson finished with 4-43, while Siddle picked up 3-55 alongwith Ben Hilfenhaus picked up 3-51.

There are still 30 overs left in the day and India will be hoping to strike back to have any chance in the Test match.

MS Dhoni leads India's fightback as he slams much-needed half-century.

Dhoni who came in after Kohli's dismissal used his feet well against the spinners and pacers to reach the landmark off 66 balls.

But as we speak, Hilfenhaus gets his third wicket as he had Ishant Sharma caught at forward short leg for nought.

India were 186-9 after 57 overs. Dhoni is on 52.

Just when MS Dhoni and Ashwin were stitching up a partnership for India, Hilfenhaus produces a jaffer to remove R Ashwin for 20.

A late swing did Ashwin in as he edged one to Michael Clarke in first slip.

Zaheer Khan walks in and he is greeted by a snorter and could do nothing much but to glove it to Ed Cowan at forward short-leg for nought.

As players head for tea, India were 178-8. Dhoni is on 44, alongwith Ishant Sharma who is yet to open his account.

It's James Pattinson't Test as he claims the big fish that of Sachin Tendulkar.

James Pattinson, who had claimed three big fishes earlier, not had Tendulkar playing a false stroke to leave India in tatters at 124-6.

A full length half-volley from Pattinson as Tendulkar goes for a drive only to drag it back on to his stumps.

Tendulkar was back in the hut for 41, with eight boundaries.

After the first session strikes, Peter Siddle strikes the first blow after lunch as he removes Virat Kohli with a peach of a delivery.

India have lost half their side before 100!!! Siddle bowls a perfect delivery outside off stump as the ball catches the edge of Kohli's bat straight to Brad Haddin who is more than happy to take the catch.

India in deep trouble as they were reeling at 96-5.

It's been a good morning for Australia as they have managed to knock four top order batsmen to leave India reeling at 72-4 at lunch.

Pattinson has been the wrecker in chief, picking up the wickets of Gautam Gambhir, Virender Sehwag and VVS Laxman to put India in a spot of bother.

Peter Siddle was the other wicket taker, picking up the wicket of Rahul Dravid.

Sachin Tendulkar has looked good in the middle, but the problem is there is no one to support him. Virat Kohli is looking good, but the visitors would be hoping to put on a huge stand, if they have to make a match out of it.

Tendulkar is looking good on 21, while Kohli is on 12.

It's been a good morning for Australia as they have managed to send four top order batsmen back to the pavillion before lunch to leave India reeling at 59-4.

Pattinson has been the wrecker in chief, picking up the wickets of Gautam Gambhir, Virender Sehwag and VVS Laxman to put India in a spot of bother.

On a pitch that had little grass, Pattinson got the ball to shape away a bit to catch the outside edge of Sehwag's bat, which was easily taken by Brad Haddin.

Then in the next over, he had VVS Laxman caught in third slip, when he had the Hyderbadi edging an outswinger, much to the delight of the bowler.

Peter Siddle's good summer continues as he removes Rahul Dravid for five.

This time short leg comes into play as Dravid pokes one gets an inside edge back onto the pads and was taken nicely by Ed Cowan.

Australia strike twice within the opening hour of the game as Sachin Tendulkar walks in to his favourite ground.

India were 31-2 after 11 overs.

Ausralian pacers have kept Indian batsmen in tight check as Peter Siddle comes in as first change.

Both Ben Hilfenhaus and James Pattinson have given little away, but as we speak Sehwag guides on towards third man for a boundary.

Next up Sehwag slashes one hard -- another boundary -- second off the over.

Couple of balls later he flicks one down the leg side for an easy three -- and just like that Sehwag is on a roll.

India were 26-1 after 9 overs. Sehwag is on 19, while Dravid is on five.

05:05

It's the hunderth Test at SCG and as Indian openers walk in the middle they would be hoping that they can perform better than Melbourne.

It's a lovely day at SCG, with the sun beating down -- best time for Gautam Gambhir rectify few things.

James Pattinson will open the proceedings for Australia.

And as we speak Pattinson removes Gambhir for nought -- dream start for the pacer and Gambhir's misery continues.

Pattinson bowls a perfect delivery -- one that pitches and bounces -- takes the outside edge of Gambhir's bat, straight to Michael Clarke in slips.

India 0-1 in 0.3 overs.

04:41

India have won the toss and have elected to bat first at SCG.

India had lost the first Test in Melbourne by 122 runs and would look to bounce back, while Aussies will look to keep the momentum going in their favour.

Both teams are fielding unchanged teams. Guess Rohit Sharma will have to wait longer as Virat Kohli gets another life.
