Gambhir leads India's fightback at SCG

Gautam Gambhir found form after with a half-century to help India to 114-2 at the end of Day 3 at SCG.

 

Gambhir struck a 63 to lead the fightback as India were 354 runs behind in their second innings.

 

Australia did manage to pick up two wickets that of Virender Sehwag and Rahul Dravid to peg India back.

 

Earlier, Michael Clarke his maiden triple ton and Mike Hussey struck a brilliant 150, to guide the hosts to 659-4 declared.

 

None of the Indian bowlers looked effective as Australia plundered runs in the second session.

Australians has bogged down Indians considerably as last 10 overs have produced just five runs.

 

Good thing for India is Gautam Gambhir is back to form and is standing tall for India. Sachin Tendulkar too seems to have gone into his shell and the entire Sydney crowd would be hoping that Sachin gets his ton tomorrow.

 

At the end of 38 overs 106-2. Gambhir is on 65, while Tendulkar is on three.

Ben Hilfenhaus produced a peach of a delivery to castle Rahul Dravid for 29.

 

Melbourne type dismissal as the ball hits the top of off stump, much to the delight of Australian fans.

 

India 101-2, still trailing by 363 runs. Gambhir is on 63, while Tendulkar is on one.

Gautam Gambhir and Rahul Dravid have combined well for India after the early loss of Virender Sehwag and put on a half-century stand as visitors have started their second innings on a positive note.

 

Gambhir who was struggling for form struck a brilliant half-century, while Rahul Dravid too is looking solid as ever.

 

India trail Australia by 369 as India were 99-1 from 26 overs.

Gautam Gambhir smashed a 54 ball half century to lead India's fightback in the second Test at SCG.

 

Gambhir who was under a bit of pressure, looked positive right from the outset smashing consecutive boundaries off Nathan Lyon to set the tone.

 

At the end of 18 overs, India were 74-1. Gambhir is on 51, while Rahul Dravid is on 16.

Gautam Gambhir looked at his fluent best after Australia declared at 659-4, with an over all lead of 468.

 

Australia riding high on a maiden triple from Michael Clarke and a brilliant 150 from Mike Hussey punished hapless Indian bowlers.

 

In reply, Ben Hilfenhaus packed off Sehwag early as he slashed hard at a widish delivery and was brilliantly caught at point by David Warner.

 

Going into the tea interval, India were 53-1, with Gambhir on 39, alongwith Dravid on seven.

India are off to a worst possible start losing Virender Sehwag for just four.

 

Looks like a plan as Ben Hilfenhaus bowls one short and wide, as Sehwag goes for it and was caught brilliantly by David Warner at point.

Australia have finally declared at 659-4 with a whopping lead of 468 runs.

 

Michael Clarke and Mike Hussey remained unbeaten on 329 and 150 respectively. A decision in team's interest considering the fact that Clarke was 71 away from Lara's record and 51 away from an Australian Test record that of Hayden.

 

It's back to the wall job for India and would be hoping for a better show by the batters this time round.

Michael Clarke slammed a maiden triple ton to leave India in struggling to save the Test at the SCG.

 

Clarke became the third player after Sanath Jayasuriya and Garham Gooch to score a triple ton against India.

 

The Aussie skipper reached the land mark with a boundary off Ishant Sharma as the hosts swell the lead to 410.

It's the same script as far as India is concerned with the bowlers unable to make any breakthrough, Dhoni letting the game drift, and batsmen making merry.

 

While Hussey slammed his 16th Test ton, Michael Clarke is closing in a maiden triple ton as Australia were 583-4 at lunch -- with 392 runs ahead.

 

None of the Indian bowlers looked like picking up a wicket -- more so they looked disoriented as well -- letting the game drift.

 

It's only a matter of time before the Aussies declare and Indians come back for their batting.

It's Mike Hussey's turn to slam a century as Australia continued their dominance over India in the second Test at the SCG.

 

It's a much better display by the Indian bowlers but they haven't yet been able to dismiss the two over night batsmen. Hussey reached the landmark with a single off Virender Sehwag to become the third Australian to score a century in the Test.

 

At the end of 144th over Australia were 563-4, with the hosts 372 runs ahead. Clarke is on 282, while Hussey is on 102.

It's a cautious start by the Australians on Day 3 as they extend their lead past the 300-run mark.

 

Indian bowlers have bowled better length this morning giving nothing away, but at the same time haven't been able to get that wicket taking delivery as well.

 

Australia at the end of 124 overs were 501-4, with an overall lead of 310. Clarke is on 256, while Hussey is on 69.

It was a frustrating Day Two for India as they leaked runs from all corners with just the lone success of Ricky Ponting at the SCG.

 

For Australia, they couldn't have hoped for a better day Ricky Ponting scored his first century in 44 innings, and Michael Clarke hit a maiden double ton to take the game away from the visitors.

 

Australia were 482-4 at the end of day's play, with 291 runs ahead. Clarke is unbeaten on 251, while Mike Hussey in on 55.
