Late wickets dent Australia's charge

Shaun Marsh's miserable run continues as Zaheer Khan traps him right in front of the stumps for nought.

 

In the next over R Ashwin trapped Ed Cowan in front of the stumps as Australia slumped from 39-0 to 40-3.

 

At the end of day, Australia were 50-3 with Clarke on 9, while Ponting on 1 with an overall lead of 382 runs.

 

Earlier, Australia bowled India out for just 272. The highlight of the Indian innings clearly was the maiden century from Virat Kohli who finished with 116.

 

Peter Siddle picked up 5-49 to give Australia an overall lead of 332. The hosts then decided not to enforce the follow on and opted to bat again in their second innings.

R Ashwin provides the early breakthrough for India as he had David Warner balooning a simple catch to him off his own bowling.

 

Ashwin tosses it up as Warner closes the phase of bat early to get the leading edge to pop a simple catch to the off-spinner. Warner was back in the hut for 28.

 

Australia were 39-1 after 10 overs.

Australian openers David Warner and Ed Cowan have begun well in their second essay stretching their lead beyond the 350 run mark.

 

Indians have been too defensive in their field placings and spinner R Ashwin has leaked runs from the other end.

 

Earlier India was bundled out for 272 with Virat Kohli scoring his maiden century. Peter Siddle was the pick of the bowlers for Australia with 5-49.

 

At the end of 8 overs, Australia were 30-0 with Warner on 21, while Cowan is on 9.

Kohli was the last man to fall as Hilfenhaus caught him in fort of the stumps for 116. 

 

India still short by 132 runs but Aussie skipper have decided not to enforce the follow on and have an over all lead of 332 runs.  

 

For India Virat Kohli was the star of the day with a maiden century scoring 116, while all other batsmen failed to deliver the goods. Wriddhiman Saha was impressive but couldn't last the distance -- he made 35.

 

Siddle finished with 5-49, while Hilfenhaus picked up 3-62,

Virat Kohli slammed his maiden Test century to become the first Indian to score a century in the ongoing Test series.

 

Kohli reached the landmark when he creamed one through the covers for a couple off Peter Siddle.

 

Australians, however, are in the drivers seat, courtesy Siddle's five-wicket haul as India slumped from 225-5 to 230-8 -- still requiring another 159 to avoid the follow on.

 

Kohli was involved in a crucial partnership with Wriddhiman Saha to revive India from a precarious position.

 

The duo put on a 114 runs for the sixth wicket to see India cross the 200-run mark.

 

At the end of 93 overs, India were 253-8. Kohli is on 102, while Ishant Sharma is on 12.

Peter Siddle strikes straight after Tea interval as he removes R Ashwin and Zaheer Khan off consecutive balls to leave India reeling at 230-8.

 

Siddle first caught Ashwin right in front of the stumps then the next ball found the edge of Zaheer Khan's bat to put Aussies on top.

 

India slumped from 225-5 to 230-8 -- still requiring another 174 runs to avoid the follow on.

 

Virat Kohli is on 91, while Ishant Sharma is yet to open his account.

Australia finally manage to get the breakthrough just at the stroke of tea as Ryan Harris castles Wriddhiman Saha for 35.

 

India were 225-6 at tea with Kohli going strong on 91.

 

A good length ball from Harris as Saha shoulders arms -- the ball hits the off stump much to the delight of the Aussies.

 

Kohli and Saha put on 114 for sixth wicket to keep India in the hunt.

Virat Kohli and Wriddhiman Saha have combined well for India putting on a 90 runs stand for the sixth wicket.

 

India were reeling at 111-5, when Saha walked in and since then the duo have played cautiously befor milking the Aussie attack on a flat pitch.

 

Kohli was the aggresive of the two hitting the spinners at will -- hitting Michael Clarke for a six and boundary to make the intentions clear.

 

Saha too at the other end looked at ease in the middle rotating the strikes with singles and couples. The duo soon brought the 200-run mark but are still 400 runs away from the Australian total.

 

At the end of 74th over, India were 204-5. Kohli is on 76, while Saha is on 26.

Virat Kohli and Wriddhiman Saha have steadied Indian innings after the early losses in the first session.

 

Kohli reached his second half-century with a flick to the boudary off Ben Hilfenhaus

 

Kohli who has looked at ease at the crease while Saha is giving him good company. The duo have put on 48-run stand for the sixth wicket as India cross the 150-run mark.

 

Earlier, Peter Siddle picked up two vital wickets of Sachin Tendulkar and Gautam Gambhir and Nathan Lyon gobbled up VVS Laxman to leave India reeling at 111-5.

 

At the end of 62 overs India were 159-5, still trailing by 445 runs. Kohli is on 52, while Saha is on nine

It's been another good morning session for Australia as they have managed to pick three wickets to leave India reeling at 122-5 at lunch.

 

India still trail by 482 runs and looks like nothing has changed in the final Test as well.

 

The Aussies have also managed to keep a tight check on the scoring rate as hosts scored 61 runs from 30 overs.

 

Peter Siddle was the destroyer in chief as he picked up the wickets of Sachin Tendulkar and Gautam Gambhir for 25 and 34 respectively.

 

Nathan Lyon then picked up the wicket of VVS Laxman for 18.

It's been a good session for Australia as they have managed to pick three big wickets that Sachin Tendulkar, Gautam Gambhir and now VVS Laxman are back in the hut.

 

Latest being VVS as he edged one to Brad Haddin off Nathan Lyon for 18 to leave India reeling at 111-5.

 

India still trail by 492 runs and are looking down the barrel once again.

 

Earlier, Peter Siddle accounted for the wickets of Sachin Tendulkar and Gautam Gambhir to make it a happy morning session for the hosts.

 

At the end of 48 overs India were 112-5. Virat Kohli is on 16, alongwith Saha who is yet to open his account.

Peter Siddle has rocked India early as he sends both the overnight batsmen to leave India reeling 87-4.

 

Siddle first removed Sachin Tendulkar for 25, then he had Gautam Gambhir walking back to the pavillion for 34.

 

Great delivery from Siddle as he digs one short -- well directed one -- Gambhir closes the eyes edges it to gully where Mike Hussey takes a wonderful catch.

 

VVS Laxman is in the middle alongwith Virat Kohli on nine and nought respectively.

Peter Siddle has struck once again off the second over off his spell as he has the big fish -- Sachin Tendulkar walking back to the pavillion for 25.

 

Tendulkar who was looking good in the middle, poked at a delivery outside off stump, giving a simple catch to Ricky Ponting at third slip.

 

India 78-3 after 31.4 overs.

Welcome to the live coverage of Day 3 of the fourth Test between India and Australia at the Adelaide Oval.

 

Australia, courtesy of the twin double tons from Ricky Ponting and Michael Clake, are well and truly on top.

 

Ponting scored 221, while Clarke scored 210 as Australia declared their innings at 604-7.

 

Then the hosts managed to pick up two vital wickets of Virender Sehwag and Rahul Dravid to leave India at 61-2 -- still 543 runs behind.

 

Gautam Gambhir and Sachin Tendulkar will have to start afresh and both will look forward to a century here on a wonderful day.
