Rahul Dravid:

"I have made no decisions. I have a couple of months of IPL to go through. A little time away from the game will be good for me. I have lived in a cocoon for 20 years, it has been a surreal world."

"Come June, I will sit down and decide on my future and that decision will also be based on the fact that I have a family and two kids."

"I will miss that a lot. I have lived the routine for 20 years in my life. Maybe my new routine will be buying the groceries, dropping my sons to school, picking them from schools."

Rahul Dravid:

"We are all very disappointed that we didnt do well in England and Australia. Having said that I do feel that Indian cricket is in a good place. There is some exciting young talent coming through.

As to who will replace me, as I have always said there is an exciting bunch of talented batsmen waiting to come in.

Just being talented doesn't necessarily mean you will have a successful Test career. In my generation me, Sachin, VVS, Viru, Gauti, and others were able to establish ourselves. If you have people coming in and out all the time, it means that you are not able to establish yourself. It will be interesting which of these young kids will be able to establish themselves in the future."

Rahul Dravid:

"Hard for me to pick one innings that has meant a lot to me. Obviously 2-3 come to your head, the 181 in that partnership in Kolkata, Jamaica, Headingley, Rawalpindi. A few come to your head, but not one particular innings.

People used to call me the Wall, I used to joke because I knew they [the media] are setting me up. Lot of them called me fondly, I never walked around thinking I was the Wall.

Over the last year, I was disappointed because I had dropped a few catches which I would usually pride myself in taking. When I drop a catch, that really stays in my head. But the decision was not based on that.

Rahul Dravid:

"For me, I wanted to be sure that I was playing the game for the right reasons, playing the game to be able to achieve great things for India, to be able to win matches for India. I have done that for 16 years successfully.

At the end of the day, I knew I had to go. When a player feels he has to go, he has to go, and there is no need to drag it any further.

The only reason I played for India was to win matches for the country, to be the best player I could be and contribute to the team's victories."

Rahul Dravid:

"The decision was not based on what happened in the last series. These decisions are based on a lot of other things, and not just one series.

There was no Eureka moment for me. For me it has come with a bit of thought, completation with my family.

It is difficult but you recognise this moment has to come to everybody. You see a lot of greats retiring when you are playing, so this moment has to come to everybody. In some ways, it has been an easy decision but deep down we knew it was time to move on.

Rahul Dravid:

"When you play international sports and when you play in a country like India where there is a huge amount of passion, you have to learn to deal with criticism, you have learn to manage them.

I have spoken to Sachin and a lot of my team-mates and they were incredibly supportive of my decision as they have always been.

It was a honour and previlege for me to play with the galaxy of stars like Sachin Tendulkar, VVS Laxman, Anil Kumble, Sourav Ganguly and Javagal Srinath. I may have missed some names. To be sharing the dressing room with them was a honour.

Rahul Dravid:

I felt it was the right time for me to move on. I have had a glorious run, a wonderful and I felt it was time for me to move on.

It is tough, it is not easy. It is a challenge. It was a difficult decision but it was easy also because in my heart I felt the time was right. It was hard in a way but it is also easy in a way because you know you have to move on and the next generation has to take over."

"I was fortunate to be part of a wonderful era in Indian cricket. What I will miss most is being a part of the Indian team."

"I have failed at times but never stopped trying. Therefore I leave with sadness, but also with pride," says Dravid.
12:39   Thank you Rahul, says BCCI chief Srinivasan
"Thank you Rahul for what you have given to Indian cricket. We wish you very well in the future challenges that face you as you step into the non-cricketing world.

The BCCI has extremely honoured that you have been a part of the Indian cricket. We do plan to felicitate you at an appropriate time in the future," says Srinivasan.
12:37   Dravid cannot be matched: BCCI
BCCI president N Srinivasan:
