Kohli guides India to a famous win over Pak

Riding high on a brilliant 183 from Virat Kohli India crushed Pakistan by six wickets in a crucial Asia Cup match here in Mirpur.

 

Kohli, who had come in the middle off the third ball of the Indian chase, along with Sachin Tendulkar and then Rohit Sharma scripted the famous win against the arch-rivals.

 

Smashing his second century off the Asia Cup, his maiden ton against Pakistan never looked in trouble as he smashed all Pakistan bowlers to all corners off the park.

 

He was dismissed with India needing 12 runs, as Raina flicked one for a maximum and then MS Dhoni finished the game with a boundary.

 

India will now have to wait for the result of Sri Lanka-Bangaldesh match to make their move into the finals.

Pakistan have finally managed to remove Virat Kohli but not before smashing a brilliant 183 runs.

 

A top edge as Kohli looked to end it quickly by going after the bowling and was taken by Mohammad Hafeez at point.

 

Couple of balls later Raina flicks one for a maximum as India inch closer to victory.

Virat Kohli is leading the charge once again as India look set to cruise to the target.

 

Rohit Sharma, who was under pressure before this match, gave him good company before he was dismissed for 68 by Umar Gul.

 

Rohit looking to heave one through the midwicket, got it high on the bat and went miles in the air, but only to Afridi who took a neat little catch.

 

The duo put on a 172 runs for the third wicket to put India on top.

 

Such was Kohli's dominance that he hit three consecutive boundaries off Wahab Riaz to gain momentum for the Indian innings.

 

At the end of 46 overs India were 307-3. Kohli is on 177, while Raina is yet to open his account.

Kohi who has struck his maiden ton against Pakistan is keeping India's hope alive in the match.

 

Rohit is giving him good company and has completed a well-deserved half-century.

 

At the end of 39 overs India were 241-2, still requiring 89 runs to win the match. Kohli is on 128, while Rohit is on 51.

India needing 320 to win the match, Kohli came in the first over itself -- as early as the third ball off the Indian innings and put on a 133 runs stand with Tendulkar to keep India on course.

 

Kohli reached the landmark with a single off Mohammad Hafeez -- his 11th over all and first vs Pakistan.

 

Rohit Sharma has given him good company at the other end as they have put on 50-runs for the third wicket.

 

At the end of 30 overs India were 187-2. Kohli is on 100, while Rohit is on 27.

But just as we speak Saeed Ajmal removes Tendulkar to provide the much-needed breakthrough.

 

Looks like a doosara from round the stumps as Tendulkar tries to play one down to the leg side, gets a leading edge to Younis Khan in slips for 52.

 

Rohit Sharma in the middle and is immediatly beaten by another doosara. What an over!!!

 

India were 133-2 after 20 overs. Kohli is on 73, while Rohit is yet to open his account.

Virat Kohli struck his third consecutive half-century in the Asia Cup as his good run continues.

 

Kohli reached the landmark with a boundary off Saeed Ajmal as India keep the heat on Pakistan in the run chase.

 

Sachin Tendulkar then reached his half-century with a cut shot off Wahab Riaz -- 96th half-century overall to add to his 49 ODI tons.

 

Tendulkar and Virat Kohli put on a brilliant stand as they have recovered well after losing Gautam Gamhir in the first over.

 

At the end of 17 overs India were 112-1. Tendulkar is on 50, while Kohli is on 55.

After losing Gambhir early, India have made a bright start to the chase as Virat Kohli and Sachin Tendulkar have hit some crisp drives in the middle.

 

India could very well have been two down had Pakistan fielder hit the stumps directly and Sachin Tendulkar would have been on his way back to the pavillion.

 

Meanwhile, here is an interesting stats India is the first team in ODIs to lose a wicket without a run on the board after the opponent openers put on over 200 plus runs.

 

At the end of seven overs India were 45-1. Kohli is on 21, while Tendulkar is on 18.

Mohammad Hafeez to open the bowling as Gautam Gambhir will take strike.

 

First up Gambhir nice and easy defends it back to the bowler. And just as we settle down for the chase, Hafeez strikes for Pakistan.

 

A well tossed up delivery from Hafeez as Gambhir tries to play one across the line, misses the ball as the ball thuds onto the pads. A loud appeal follows and the umpire raises the finger in affirmation.

Centuries from Mohammad Hafeez and Nasir Jamshed and a 34-ball 52 from Younis Khan have powered Pakistan to 329-6.

 

The openers put on 224-runs for the opening wicket before Umar Akmal and Younis added on crucial 48-runs for the third wicket.

 

Afridi couldn't do much with the bat and was dismissed by Irfant Pathan for nine.

 

None of the Indian bowlers looked like taking wicket before Pakistan took the batting Powerplay.

 

For India, Ashok Dinda and Praveen Kumar took two wickets apiece, while Ashwin and Irfan Pathan took one each.

After a brilliant opening stand of 224, Umar Akmal and Younis Khan turned now turned the heat on Indians by putting on a 48-runs stand for third wicket before Praveen Kumar removed the youngster.

 

Umar looking to scoop the ball over fine-leg couldn't clear the lone fielder there and was safely pouched by Gautam Gambhir.

 

At the end of 42 overs Pakistan were 272-3. Afridi has just walked in to a rousing welcome and is on 0, while Younis is on 20.

Ashok Dinda will bowl the second over of the batting powerplay as Umar Akmal guides one to third man for a single.

 

Next up Dinda produces a gem of a slower one Hafeez misses it completely as the ball crashes on to hsi pads. A loud appeal from the bowler as umpire Ian Gould raises the finger in affirmation.

 

Pakistan have now lost both the openers as they were 231-2 after 37 overs. Younis Khan is on five, while Akmal is on three.

India finally get their first breakthrough as Ashwin had Nasir Jamshed playing a flase stroke to break the 224-runs stand.

 

With Pakistan taking the batting poweplay, Jamshed looked to go for a sweep shot, but got a top-edge and was safely taken by Irfan Pathan at short thrid man.

 

Pakistan were 224-1 after 36 overs.

Jamshed reached the landmark with a single of Praveen Kumar -- amazing calmness as he touches down the non-striker's end.

 

Hafeez, earlier,  slammed his second century of the Asia Cup -- 4th overall  and maiden ton vs India to put Pakistan in drivers seat here at Mirpur.

The duo have put on a double century stand as none of the Indian bowlers looked like pickign upa wicket.

 

Pakistan have played flawless and risk-free cricket to put them in a commanding position.

 

At the end of 35 overs, Pakistan were 218-0.  Hafeez is on 104, while Jamshed is on 107.

Pakistan have played flawless and risk-free cricket to put them in a commanding position.

 

At the end of 33 overs, Pakistan were 203-0.  Hafeez is on 101, while Jamshed is on 96.

Pakistan openers have been relentless and they have given little leeway to Indian bowlers to have looked lacklustre on the field to say the least.

 

India have now used eight bowlers so far and a chance almost came their way only to be spilled by Sachin Tendulkar, who hurt himself in the process.

 

In the process the openers surpass their previous best opening start v India, which was 144.

 

At the current rate they look good to get 295 -- but considering the batting powerplay is yet to be taken, 300 is definelty on the cards.

 

Pakistan were 170-0 after 27 overs. Hafeez is closing in on second century off the Asia Cup, while Jamshed too is on 74.

Jamshed too reached the landmark in the same over with a boundary through square-leg.

 

At the end of 18 overs Pakistan were 107-0. Jamshed is on 52, while Hafeez is on 51.

MS Dhoni has brought in part-timers into the attack with Rohit Sharma, Suresh Raina and Yusuf Pathan sharing five overs between them.

 

Trouble for India is they are yet to make a breakthrough and Pakistan is looking good for a 300-plus score.

 

None of the Indian bowlers have looked like picking up a wicket -- neither has MS Dhoni done anything extra or different.

 

Pakistan were 83-0 after 16 overs. Jamshed is on 38, while Hafeez is on 43.

But as we speak, Hafeez clips one through midwicket for a boundary. Not a bad ball at all, but Hafeez just walks across and times it well to the boundary.

 

At the end of nine overs Pakistan were 41-0. Hafeez is on 22, while Jamshed is on 17.

Pakistan openers are off to a decent start in  a crucial Asia Cup tie against India.

 

Nasir Jamshed the aggressor as smashed three boundaries off Praveen Kumar to set the game rolling.

 

First delivery was a brilliant stroke picking off his pads. Praveen follows it up with a full delivery, which is again put to the boundary -- same stroke.

 

Jamshed, a ball later plays one fine for the third boundary off the over.

 

Pakistan 25-0 after four overs. Jamshed is on 14, while Hafeez is on 10.

A bit of swing in the air as the ball nips back a bit. Rameez Raja informs us that there was earthquake and showers in here.

 

Two balls later, Praveen provides a gift -- short wide as Hafeez is gleefully puts it to boundary.

Welcome to the BIG match of the day!!! India vs Pakistan

The news out in the middle is that Pakistan have won the toss and have elected to bat first on a sunny day. The pitch looks good and Misbah feels Pakistan is relaxed.

 

Pakistan have made one change to the side with Sarfaraz Ahmed sitting out and in comes Wahab Riaz. Umar Akmal to keep wickets.

 

India, meanwhile, too have made a change to the side with Ravindra Jadeja making way for Yusuf Pathan.
