Bangladesh thrash Sri Lanka, in Asia Cup final

Bangladesh have taken out both the World Cup finalists in successive matches and deserve their place in the final. 

Having beaten India, they ousted Sri Lanka by five wickets (D/L method) to book a place in the decider.

The home team will take on Pakistan on Thursday.

Bangladesh reach the 200-run mark in the 36th over. The batting powerplay is taken in the next over with the home team needing only seven to win. 

Malinga bowls the first over to complete his spell (8-0-29-0). The spearhead did everything right besides picking up a wicket. 

Bangladesh win five wickets with 17 balls to spare. 

They will play Pakistan in the final on Thursday. 

More disappointment for Indian fans. Suffice to say they were expecting too much.

Mahmadullah and Nasir Hossain are slowly but surely putting up a good stand for the sixth wicket. It is now worth more than 50 runs.

Jayawardene, meanwhile, gets Malinga back into the attack to start the bowling powerplay. The strike bowler gives away just three runs. A good comeback this.

Senanayeke drops a dolly. He puts down Tamim (on 51) off his own bowling. 

However, he finally picks up a wicket, havint Tamim Iqbal (59) caught by Thirimanne at point. 

Tamim's 57-ball 59 was inclusive of nine hits to the fence and he put on 76 runs for the fourth wicket with Shakib.

Shakib and Tamim are putting together a good partnership for the fourth wicket. 

They have so far put on more than fifty runs at almost a run-a-ball.

A boundary off Maharoof, his eighth, helps Tamim raise his 22nd ODI fifty, his third in a row and third against Sri Lanka. It also helps the home team reach the 100-run mark.

Jahurul Islam has come out to replace Nazimuddin. He survives a loud appeal for a catch off Malinga. 

Sri Lankans are convinced he is out. So is umpire Paul Reiffel that he is not. 

However, it is Tamim Iqbal who eases the pressure with a couple of boundaries. In Kulasekara's third over, the batsman helps himself to a further three boundaries.

Suranga Lakmal comes in to replace Malinga (3-0-15-0) in the attack in the seventh over. He strikes second ball, having Jahurul Islam (2) caught by Kapugedera at midwicket.

The target has been revised. Bangladesh now need to make 212 in 40 overs, a tough ask considering the outfield will be heavy. 

Lasith Malinga starts with the ball for Sri Lanka while it is Tamim Iqbal and Nazimuddin open the batting for the home team. 

The latter hits the fifth ball to the fence. Eight runs come off the first over. Nuwan Kulasekara to start with the second new ball.

He strikes second ball, rattling Nazimuddin's (6) stumps.

Sachithra Senanayeke uses the long handle to good effect to help the Sri Lankan cause to an extent. 

He first hits Mashrafe to the square leg fence and is then particularly severe on Shahadat, taking 10 runs in three balls in the latter's eighth over, including a couple of boundaries. 

Mashrafe bowls the final over and cleans up Malinga (10) first ball. He concedes just two runs in the over that also witness Lakmal (0) getting run out off the penultimate ball.

Bangladesh, having put Sri Lanka into bat, have done well to restrict them to 232 (in 49.5 overs).

The good news for Indian fans is that there is a light drizzle in Mirpur.

Shakib has Maharoof (3) caught behind and strikes again to have Kulasekara (1) out leg before. 

Sri Lanka reduced to 183 for seven after the 43rd over. 

Tharanga eases the pressure with a maximum (over long on) and a boundary off Shakib, the hits helping his team surpass the 200-run mark. However, Shahadat Hossain has him caught behind for 48.

However, Kapugedera (62) fails to capitalise on his fifty, hitting a Razzak delivery straight to Shakib at extra cover.

His 92-ball innings included four hits to the fence and he put on 49 runs for the fifth wicket with Tharanga.

In Hossain's fifth over, Tharanga helps himself to successive boundaries. A good start for the batsman. It will be, however, important for Sri Lanka that he carries on from here and builds on it. 

Kapugedera reaches his eighth ODI fifty with a couple off Shakib.

Thirimanne falls two short of a well deserved fifty when a Razzak delivery ricochets fron Mushfiqur's pads and hits the stumps. 

Thirimanne's 73-ball 48 was inclusive of three boundaries and he help Kapugedera put on 88 runs in a vital fourth wicket stand.

Mahela Jayawardene and Tillekeratne Dilshan open the batting for Sri Lanka and it will be Mashrafe Mortaza to start the proceedings for the home team. He concedes just a single in the opening over. 

Nazmul Hossain to share the new ball. He gives away five runs in his first over, with Dilshan finding his way to the fence. Dilshandoesn't take long to get into the groove, hitting a boundary apiece off Mortaza and Hossain. 

However, Hossain accounts for Jayawardene (5) in his second over, rattling his stumps.

Bangladesh won the toss and invited Sri Lanka to bat first in the final league match of the Asia Cup in Mirpur on Tuesday. 

There's a lone change in the home squad, Nazmul Hossain coming in for Shafiul Islam. Sri Lanka have made a couple of changes. Chamara Kapugedera replaces Dinesh Chandimal while Senanayake also gets a look in.

The match is important from an Indian point of view as a Bangladesh win will ensure curtains for the defending champions.
