PAKISTAN WIN ASIA CUP 2012

Pakistan 236-9 (50) beat Bangladesh 234-8 (50) by two runs

In the end, Pakistan's experience of having performed on the big stage proved crucial as they prevailed in a close finish. Bangladesh were the better team for most part of the match but crumbled when it really mattered, in the final few overs with the bat.

Cheema struggled in the early overs, but came back strongly to take three quick wickets in the closing stages. In the end, you can only feel sorry for Bangladesh, who were the best team in the tournament but fell short at the final hurdle.

Bangladesh 228-7 (48 ovs), Target: 237

Bangladesh got 10 runs from the last over and they need another nine runs to win their first ever Asia Cup title.

Cheema to bowl the final over.

49.1 Mahmudullah tries to play the paddle sweep but the ball flies off the leading edge for a single to the thirdman region.

49.2 Everyone is standing nervously in the Bangladesh dressing room. Razzak gets a single as the ball goes off his pads to the short fine leg fielder.

49.3 The next ball is a slower one and Mahmudullah misses his shot as he charges down the wicket and tries to flay it through the off-side.

49.4 Mahmudullah hits it to the cover region and scampers back for a quick double and wicketkeeper Sarfaraz gifts another run as he misses the stumps at the striker's end. (4 needed from 2 balls)

49.5 Cheema delivers under pressure. Once again it is the slower ball that does the damage. Razzak walks across his stumps and tries to hit it fine on the leg side but only manages to hit back on to the wicket. Razzak is bowled for six from eight balls. (4 needed from last ball)

49.6 New batsman Shahadat to face the last ball. Shahadat gave away 19 runs in his final over, but he has a chance to redeem himself by hitting the winning runs. It's another good delivery from Cheema, a yorker on the leg stump that gets Bangladesh just a single.

Bangladesh 228-7 (48 ovs), Target: 237

The first ball is a perfect yorker from Gul and Mahmudullah digs it out, but it goes over the bowler for a single. Abdur Razzak has a wild swing at the next ball, hitting it straight to mid-off, and nearly makes it home for a single despite a direct hit from the fielder.

Gul then oversteps the bowling crease and it is ruled a no-ball which Mahmudullah hits to midwicket for a single. The free-hit ball is hit to midwicket for two runs by Razzak. The left-hander then gets an inside edge to the leg side which gets them a single. Mahmudullah tries to steer it fine but it goes straight to the short thirdman fielder inside the circle for a single. Razzak shuffles across the stumps and plays it on the leg side to get two runs courtesy of some quick running between the wickets.

Mortaza c Jamshed b Ajmal 18 (9b, 2x4)

Pakistan's final throw of the dice as Ajmal comes to bowl his final over. Mortaza chips the first ball over covers to get three runs after a brilliant stop on the boundary by Azam. Mahmudullah shows great composure to take a single off the next ball, while Mortaza hits the next ball in the covers for two more runs.

But Ajmal got the vital wicket. Mortaza tried to play the paddle sweep as he went across his stumps but hit it straight to Jamshed at short fine leg to fall after a quick 18 from nine balls. The last two balls of the over were dot balls as Bangladesh reach 218 for seven in 48 overs.

Ajmal finishes with two for 40 in ten overs, a superb spell of bowling. The wicket of Mortaza in the final wicket tilts the balance slightly in Pakistan's favour.

Bangladesh 212-6 (47 ovs), Target: 237

Mahmudullah dances down the wicket to Gul and smashes it through the covers for a boundary and then takes a single off the next ball, which is ruled a leg bye.

Mortaza then scoops a short delivery over the short fine leg fielder for another boundary to put Gul under pressure. He is turning it on for Bangladesh as he smashes the next ball over the cover region for another four, the third of the over. The next ball strikes Mortaza on his pads and the two batsmen scamper a quick run, while the final ball is a dot ball.

Bangladesh get 14 runs from that over and now need 25 from three overs for victory.

Bangladesh 198-6 (46 ovs), Target: 237

Cheema is back with a vengeance after a poor first spell. He now gets the wicket of Bangladesh captain Rahim, who holes out to deep midwicket for 10.

Bangladesh's hopes are fading fast as wickets keep tumbling.

Mahmudullah hits it down the ground for a single. Mashrafe Mortaza attempts a big hit which falls in the vacant space on the leg side to get him two runs.

Cheema then bowls a chest high full toss to Mortaza, who somehow gets his bat to it in the process of avoiding it. That was ruled a no-ball but Mahmudullah misses the next ball as Cheema bowls a slower one. Mortaza gets two runs from the final ball of that over through the covers as Bangladesh reach 200 for six in 46 overs.

WICKET!!! Bangladesh 170-4 (42.3 ovs), Target: 237

N Hossain c Misbah b Gul 28 (63b, 1x4)

Gul back for another spell, he has four overs left. A tidy start for the pacer as just two runs come from the first four balls before Shakib flicks a full delivery over midwicket for a boundary to get his half-century, from 62 balls. 160-3 (41)

The struggling Cheema is back in the attack. Shakib targets him straightaway as he launches him high over midwicket for a six. Tension mounts in the Pakistan camp now as Gul and Misbah have a long chat with Cheema after that six. Shakib gets an inside edge for a single on the leg side, while Hossain fails to get a run off the next two balls before taking a single. Bangladesh get nine runs from that over and suddenly Pakistan are feeling the pressure. 169-3 (42)

Gul bowls a perfect yorker to Shakib, on his toes, which he somehow digs out on the leg side for a single. Hossain hits it straight to Misbah at midwicket. The next ball he tries to pull it on the leg side but gets it off the bottom of the bat to spoon a simple catch to Misbah on the leg side.

Shakib steers it fine on the leg side for two runs and the next ball he misses a full stop as he gives himself room and looks to hit on the off-side. He then shuffles across his stumps and plays the paddle sweep that flies over the short fine leg fielder for a four.

- Live scorecard

Bangladesh 153-3 (40 ovs), Target: 237

Hafeez to bowl his last over. Shakib get a single off the second ball, while quick fielding from Misbah stops a single off the third ball. Hossain then hits the next two balls straight to fielders as the pressure starts to grow and so does the required run rate. A single on the leg side to end that over. 147-3 (39)

Hossain takes a quick single off the first ball of Ajmal's over. Shakib plays the slog sweep to midwicket for another single. Hossain also chips the next ball in that same region for a double to bring up Bangladesh's 150. Six runs from that Ajmal over ends the Batting Powerplay where the hosts managed just 21 runs in five overs.

Bangladesh are 153 for three in 40 overs and need another 84 runs for victory.

Hafeez ends a good spell, having given just 30 runs in his ten overs, despite bowling mostly in the Powerplays.
20:25
- Live scorecard

Bangladesh 145-3 (38 ovs), Target: 237

The five overs of Batting Powerplay come into effect and Pakistan bring in their premier bowler in Saeed Ajmal back into the attack. Shakib takes a single off the third ball on the leg side.

Hossain then slaps a wide ball through the covers for a boundary, his first after facing 42 balls. 138-3 (36)

Hafeez to bowl in the Powerplay. But Bangladesh cannot get him away as just four singles come from his ninth over to reach 142 for three in 37 overs.

Shakib takes a single off Ajmal's first ball while Hossain defends the next ball. The right-hander then steals a quick single to Afridi at short fine leg. Ajmal then bowls two dot balls to Shakib as just three runs come from that over.
20:11
- Live scorecard

Bangladesh 132-3 (35 ovs), Target: 237

Hafeez to bowl his seventh over. He starts with a wide down the leg side to Hossain before both the batsmen get two singles each for five runs from that over. 124-3 (34)

Shakib is looking to attack Azam, Pakistan's weakest link in the bowling. Azam gifts him a full toss which Shakib despatches through the covers for a boundary. He then punches a wide ball to deep extra cover for a single. The two batsmen also bring up their 50-run partnership for the fifth wicket from 70 balls. Interestingly, Hossain has contributed just 10 runs in that 50-run partnership with Shakib. Azam bowls a wide down the leg side as he continues leak runs from his end.

Bangladesh are 132 for three in 35 overs, needing another 105 runs in 15 overs for victory.
20:05
- Live scorecard

Bangladesh 119-3 (33 ovs), Target: 237

Medium pacer Hammad Azam is introduced into the attack. The ball is holding on the pitch now and staying a bit low. Azam keeps it just outside the off-stump and Shakib cannot get it away for runs. But he crashed the fifth ball of that over through midwicket for a much needed boundary for Bangladesh. Azam then bowled it way down the leg side which Shakib flicked it fine off his pads for another boundary. 109-3 (31)

Hafeez has a huge appeal for LBW against Hossain turned down as he got an inside edge. The next ball Shakib had another nervy moment when he tried to take two runs and just about managed to make the crease before the wicketkeeper took off the bails. Bangladesh got six runs from that over to reach 115 for three in 32 overs.

Pakistan continue with Azam, who was hit for two fours in his previous over. Finally, the two batsmen look settled now as singles are coming more regularly now. Four singles from Azam's second over as Bangladesh look to get through to the Batting Powerplay without much of damage. 119-3 (33)
19:49
- Live scorecard

Bangladesh 101-3 (30 ovs), Target: 237

Cheema brought back to replace Gul, who took the key wicket of Tamim in his last spell. Shakib tries to play the big shot across the line on the leg side but hits it straight to the midwicket fielder. He cuts the next ball but Umar Akmal comes up with a good save at point. Bangladesh are looking for a big shot or two to break the shackles but most importantly they have forgotten to takes the singles and that is hurting them a great deal. Four dot balls before Shakib gets a bottom edge that goes over the wicketkeeper for two runs. He ends the over in style as he lofts Cheema over point for a boundary to bring the crowd back to life. 94-3 (28)

Afridi to bowl his final over. Shakib and Hossain a bit positive this time as they take two singles apiece to get four runs in that over. Afridi completes a wonderful spell of one for 28 in ten overs. 98-3 (29)

Hafeez comes on from the other end. Shakib takes a single on the leg side from the second ball of that over. Hossain pulls a short ball on the leg side to bring up Bangladesh's 100 and Shakib takes a single from the next ball for three runs from that over.

Hossain feels the pressure after four dot balls as he tries a wild heave but misses. Gul bowls a maiden over, the second in a row as Pakistan continue to inch their way back into the contest. 86-3 (26)

Afridi bowls a wide down the leg side for the first run for Bangladesh after 15 balls. Shakib is also feeling the pinch as he tries the slog sweep but misses and is lucky that the ball was away from the stumps. Shakib then hits one down the ground for a single, the first run from the bat after 18 balls as the crowd try to wake up their batsmen. Two runs from that over from Afridi as the required run rate continues to increase. 88-3 (27)

The Bangladeshi fans spring back to life again as Shakib hits his first ball for a boundary, punching Gul through midwicket. At the end of 24 overs, Bangladesh are 86 for three.

The Pakistan spinners are doing it quite well as the Bangladesh batsmen are struggling to pick them. Afridi bowls a maiden over to Shakib during which he beat him nearly thrice with his clever variations.

At the halfway stage, Bangladesh are 86 for three and need another 151 runs from 25 overs for victory.

WICKET!!! Bangladesh 81-3 (23.1 ovs), Target: 237

Tamim c Younis b Gul 60 (68b, 8x4)

It has gone quiet at the Sher-e-Bangla stadium in Mirpur as the runs have dried up. Tamim takes a single off the first ball of Afridi's over and Nasir plays four dot balls before taking one off the final ball of that over. 72-2 (21)

Afridi and Ajmal have bowled 11 overs between them for 30 runs,  while taking a wicket each. Pakistan continue to squeeze the pressure and Bangladesh will need to do something here to break the shackles.

Gul comes on for a new spell after a horror show with the new ball. His poor game continues as Tamim flicks one off his pads to the boundary, square on the leg side. That is the first boundary for Bangladesh after a gap of nearly eight overs and they need a few more fours to get back in the comfort zone. 78-2 (22)

Bangladesh need to play sensibly in the middle overs. It is important to rotate the strike and build partnerships when the field spreads out. Hossain tries the slog sweep against Afridi but misses the ball completely as Tamim has a chat with him after that wild swing. Three runs from that over from Afridi as Bangladesh reach 81 for two in 23 overs.

The pressure from Pakistani bowlers pays off finally as they force Tamim into a mistake. Tamim tries to punch Gul through the off-side but ends up chipping it to Younis, who takes his third catch after a good knock of 60 from 87 balls.

WICKET!!! Bangladesh 68-2 (17.5 ovs), Target: 237

Jahurul Islam c Younis b Ajmal 0 (5b)

A wicket maiden from Ajmal followed by another good over from Afridi, where he took a wicket and gave away just a single. Bangladesh have lost some momentum at the moment and will need to rebuild their innings once again after the double blow.

Tamim will be the key to Bangladesh's hopes. Meanwhile, Mohandas Menon writes on Twitter: "Tamim Iqbal becomes the first Bangladeshi batsman to register four 50+ scores in a row in ODIs."

Nasir Hossain is the new batsman for Bangladesh. Ajmal continues Pakistan's good recent run with the ball in the last few overs by conceding just a single in his fifth over.

Bangladesh have lost their way in the Bowling Powerplay, having scored just eight runs, while losing two wickets in the five overs of Powerplay. 70-2 (20)

Pakistan make a strong comeback as Ajmal strikes in the very next over. Jahurul Islam defends the first four balls of Ajmal's over before falling off the fifth.

WICKET!!! Bangladesh 68-1 (16.4 ovs), Target: 237

Nazimuddin c Younis b Afridi 16 (52b)

The Bowling Powerplay starts as Ajmal comes back into the attack. Tamim eases into the off-side for a single from the first ball. Nazimuddin is lookig to change gears at the moment as he dances down the wicket to Ajmal but once again the thick outside flies over point for a single. 65-0 (16)

Tamim hits his fourth half-century in a row, off just 48 balls with a single against Afridi. He makes a gesture towards the dressing room indicating that his is fourth half-century in the tournament. And to think that Tamim was not picked in the original Bangladesh squad for the Asia Cup before intervention from his uncle and former captain Akram Khan got him back.

Nazimuddin's agony finally ends. He tries to loft Afridi over the off-side but doesn't get the distance and Younis completes a good catch running to his righ at long-off.
18:44
- Live scorecard

Bangladesh 62-0 (15 ovs), Target: 237

As Tamim keeps the scoreboard ticking, Nazimuddin is doing just the opposite. He is struggling to get even singles at the moment. He plays out three dot balls from Afridi before taking a single off the fourth and Tamim gets another single from the last ball of that over. 46-0 (12)

Tamim then gets a lucky boundary. He ducks under a short ball from Cheema but the ball hits the back of that bat for a boundary to the fine leg region. Tamim plays the next ball in that same region to get two runs.

The left-hander gets another streaky boundary in that over when he inside edged the final ball, only for it to miss the stumps and hit the boundary behind the wicketkeeper. Pakistan's frustration continue to grow as Bangladesh reach 58 for no loss in 14 overs.

Nazimuddin also getting frustrated here. He charges down the wicket to Afridi but he also gets an inside edge to get a single to the fine leg region. Four singles from that Afridi over as the openers continue to prosper.
18:33
- Live scorecard

Bangladesh 44-0 (11 ovs), Target: 237

After a tidy spell of five overs for ten runs from Hafeez, Pakistan bring in leg spinner Shahid Afridi.

Bangladesh get seven runs from Afridi's first over with good rotation of the strike. Tamim is looking in good touch as he finds the gap in the off-side field twice that fetches him a couple of runs on both occasions. 42-0 (11)

Tamim is 31 from 32 balls, while Nazimuddin is struggling on nine from 34 balls.

Pakistan are getting desperate for a wicket now. Misbah now brings in pacer Aizaz Cheema after two overs from Ajmal as he continues to ring in the changes.

Cheema was unlucky not to have picked up a wicket in his first over. Nazimuddin cut a short wide delivery that went straight to Azam on the thirdman fence but he put it down. The right-hander has already enjoyed a few close calls in his slow innings of 10 from 37 balls so far. Good start from Cheema as he concedes two in his opening over.

18:24
- Live scorecard

Bangladesh 35-0 (10 ovs), Target: 237

Nazimuddin is playing sensibly at the moment. He is not taking any risks and is just looking to take the singles and give the strike to the in-form Tamim. While runs leak from the other end, Hafeez has kept it tight from his end as he concedes just two runs in his fourth over. 26-0 (7)

Gul is taken off after an expensive first spell and Saeed Ajmal comes into the attack. He starts with a wide down the leg side and Nazimuddin takes a single off the next ball. Tamim then got another boundary in that over as he got it fine on the leg side to get six runs from that over. 32-0 (8)

Hafeez has been effective with the ball as he bowls another tidy another over, to concede three runs. But it is wickets that Pakistan need at the moment and Hafeez does not likely to pick a wicket at the moment. 35-0 (9)

A huge appeal for LBW against Nazimuddin as the right-hander looked to play the sweep, but umpire Steve Davies turns down the appeal. It looked might close and Nazimuddin was lucky to get away with that. That was a maiden over from Ajmal.

18:11
- Live scorecard

Bangladesh 26-0 (6 ovs), Target: 237

Nazimuddin is looking to play out Hafeez, not taking any risks against the part-time off-spinner. He resorts to defending most of his deliveries in the third ball before taking a single off the final ball of that over. 14-0 (5)

Tamim is on fire at the moment, and he is taking a liking to Gul. A short ball from Gul and Tamim chops it over point for a four and a couple of balls he smokes a full ball through the covers for another boundary. Tamim has raced to 19 from 17 balls with four boundaries to give his team a good start.
18:05

Bangladesh 13-0 (4 ovs), Target: 237

Meanwhile, Sahara India Group have announced that Sourav Ganguly will lead Pune Warriors in the fifth edition of the IPL.

Hafeez's second over is also tidy. Both Tamim and Nazimuddin take a single each in that over as they look to build a platform and avoid losing early wickets. 4-0 (3)

Tamim gets the first boundary for Bangladesh as he hits Gul through the covers and he ends the over with another four, through that same region.
17:56
- Live scorecard

Bangladesh 2-0 (2 ovs), Target: 237

Just 237 runs stand between Bangladesh and their maiden Asia Cup title in front of their beloved home fans. Going by how they have batted right through the tournament, it should be a cakewalk for the hosts, but Pakistan's bowling attack will things difficult for them.

Pakistan start with a spinner as Mohammad Hafeez takes the new ball. Tamim Iqbal hits the third ball down the ground for a single to get Bangladesh off the mark to a huge cheer from the crowd.

Nazimuddin also takes a single a couple of balls later as Bangladesh get two runs from the first over.

Umar Gul beats Nizamuddin with his first ball as he gets it to come in a bit, that was close to the stumps. A couple of balls later, Gul got one to leave the batsman and once Nazimuddin had no clue about it and was beaten yet again. A few plays and misses for Nazimuddin as Gul starts with a maiden.

Pak 236-9 (50 ovs)

Sarfaraz played a crucial role in helping Pakistan reach a competitive 236 for nine, a total which gives their bowlers some chance if they claim early wickets.

Sarfaraz was unbeaten on 46 from 52 balls as Pakistan scored 34 runs from the final five overs. At one stage, Pakistan were tottering at 133 for six, but they recovered quite well to get so far.

The last over hurt Bangladesh a bit as Shahadat conceded 19 runs from the final over.

Razzak was Bangladesh's best bowler as he took two for 26 in ten overs, while Mortaza and Shakib also took a couple of wickets each.

But Bangladesh will fancy their chances of chasing down this total with all their batsmen looking confident.

Pak 128-4 (33 ovs)

Off-spinner Mahmudullah into the attack now. The two Pakistan batsmen look settled now and Bangladesh will be looking to make a breakthrough in the next few overs.

Azam gets the boundary in that over as he sweeps it over square leg off the third ball of that over. Pakistan looking to get going here as six runs come from that over. 117-4 (31)

Azam shuffles across his stumps and tries to play the sweep against Shakib but misses and is hit on the pads. There is a huge appeal from the bowlers but the umpire turns down the appeal. A close call that for Azam as he gets two leg byes from that which brings up the 50-run partnership for the fifth wicket from 62 balls. 124-4 (32)

Azam is using the sweep shot quite well against the spinners. He sweeps it yet again from the stumps for a couple of runs on the leg side. Four runs from that over from Mahmudullah as Pakistan continue to rebuild their innings.

Pak 108-4 (30 ovs)

Shakib Al Hasan is brought into the attack to replace Razzak, who bowled a wonderful first spell of one for 11 in seven overs.

Akmal continues the pattern of playing out three dot balls before a single off the fourth ball. Just a single from the first over from Shakib as Pakistan continue to struggle. 85-4 (26)

Nazmul continues and this time Akmal gets a single off the first ball of that over. Azam gets the much needed boundary for Pakistan as he pulls a short ball from Nazmul through the square leg region. It's a productive over for Pakistan as they get seven runs from that to take their total to 92 for four in 27 overs.

Shakib is also bowling it a touch slow and giving it plenty of air. Akmal plays the first two balls of that over straight to fielders before a single down to long-on off the next ball. The last two balls of that over also go for singles as Pakistan get three runs from that over.

Azam is providing the momentum to the Pakistan innings. He drives a full toss from Nazmul through the covers for a four to bring up Pakistan's 100 in the 29th over.

Akmal is quick to rock on the backfoot and slam a short ball from Shakib into the stands at midwicket for a six. Its a good over from Pakistan as they get nine runs from it to reach 111 for four after 30 overs.

Pakistan have hit just nine fours and two sixes in the first 30 overs off the innings in their score of 111 for four. They will need more than double of that score if they want to pose a challenge for the in-form Bangladesh batsmen.

Pak 84-4 (25 ovs)

Pakistan have two young batsmen out in the middle in Umar Akmal and Hammad Azam and both have a big task on hand.

Razzak has been magnificent with the ball for Bangladesh so far, having taken one for eight in six overs, including three maidens.

Shahadat gave Pakistan some relief when he bowled a no-ball and gifted them a free hit. Azam made most of the opportunity as he muscled the free hit delivery over the covers for a six, the first boundary hit for Pakistan after 77 balls.

Razzak continues, to bowl his seventh over. Akmal plays three dot balls before he charges down the wicket and looks to loft it over midwicket but mistimes it and gets just two runs. He just a single off the next ball before a dot ball to end it. 83-4 (24)

Nazmul comes back for a second spell. Akmal is finding it difficult to rotate the strike now. Three dot balls in a row before a single off the fourth ball, while Azam defends the last two balls of that over.

At the halfway stage, Pakistan are 84 for four. Shahid Afridi is the next batsman in and how much Pakistan will need him to fire today. Maybe a quick fire 70-odd will help boost their total.

WICKET!!! Pak 70-4 (21.2 ovs)

Hafeez c Hossain b Razzak 40 (87b, 4x4)

The Bowling Powerplay went Bangladesh's way as Pakistan could score only 11 runs from them. They have a huge task to get this innings back on track.

Boundaries have disappeared completely as four singles come from Shahadat's next over to take Pakistan to 70 for three in 21 overs.

Hafeez tried to break the shackles but ended up losing his wicket in his search for the big shot. He tried to loft Razzak down the ground but failed to get it over Nazmul Hossain at mid-on who gobbled up that offering to leave Pakistan in dire straits.

Hafeez made 40 from 87 balls, out of which 65 were dot balls. His frustration to get the runs eventually cost him his wicket.

Pak 66-3 (20 ovs)

Hafeez continues to play cautiously. He hits the first balls of Shahadat's over straight to the fielder and has scored only 36 from 73 balls. He steals a quick single off the fourth ball and just about makes his ground despite a direct hit from mid-on by Tamim Iqbal.

Ramiz Raja says along with occupation of the crease Pakistan must look to rotate the strike. Three singles from that Shahadat over as the visitors reach 66 for three in 19 overs.

Razzak gets another maiden over to his credit. Hafeez is unable to get going at the moment and plays out six dot balls on the row against Razzak, who also has a huge leg before wicket appeal turned down.

Pak 63-3 (18 ovs)

Umar Akmal gets off the mark with a single in the covers off Razzak. Hafeez looking to hold one end up here as he is content to defend. He plays out four dot balls before a single off the final ball of that over. 57-3 (16)

A rare misfielding from Bangladesh today as Razzak misses the ball at mid-off to gift Hafeez two runs. The Pakistan opener then played it fine on the leg side to get another couple of runs off Hossain. 62-3 (17)

Left-arm spinner Razzak continues to keep the Pakistani batsmen in check. He ends up giving just one run in his fourth over, using good variations and Pakistan can do nothing about the situation at the moment. They need to have a few good overs to get their innings back on track.

WICKET!!! Pak 53-3 (14.5 ovs)

Misbah-ul-Haq run out 13 (23b, 1x4)

Pakistan are losing the plot here. This time they lose the big wicket of captain Misbah, who is run out for 13 after a direct hit at the non-striker's end from Nasir Hossain.

Misbah hesitated slightly before deciding to set off for the run, but he was caught inches short by the direct hit. Bangladesh are rejoicing here and rightfully so, after a good first hour on the field.

Not much experience in the batting to follow for Pakistan. Hafeez holds the key, while Umar Akmal also needs to come good.

Pak 52-2 (14 ovs)

Mortaza to bowl his sixth over. He continues his tactics of keeping it short of good length outside the off-stump and Pakistani batsmen are content to defend him. Hafeez gets a single on the off-side for the only run in that over. 44-2 (11)

Bangladesh introduce spin, bringing in left-arm spinner Abdur Razzak into the attack in place of Hossain. Hafeez plays the cut late off the third ball of that over for three runs to the thirdman region. Another couple of singles in that over as Pakistan look to rebuild their innings. 49-2 (12)

Shahadat Hossain is introduced into the attack now. Hafeez hits the first ball on the off-side for a single to bring up Pakistan's 50 in the 13th over. Shahadat is also looking to keep things tight by just sticking to the basics as he concedes just three in that over. 52-2 (13)

Razzak starts with a well flighted delivery to Hafeez which he plays straight to the fielder at point. The left-arm spinner is giving the ball lot of air and trying to tempt the batsmen to go for their shots, but Pakistan are not ready to take the bait yet. Hafeez quietly defends in that over as Razzak bowls a maiden over.

Pak 43-2 (10 ovs)

Hossain has once again been the star for Bangladesh with the new ball. He has taken one for seven in three overs, including a maiden. He is bang on target in the fourth over too, bowling a tight line and length. But Hossain ruins it off the final ball as he gifts a full ball on the pads which Misbah flicks to the leg side for a four. 31-2 (8)

Mortaza also keeps the ball on good length, not letting the batsmen score easy runs. Hafeez steers the second ball to thirdman for a single and Misbah gets another one off the next ball. But just two runs from that over from Mortaza as Bangladesh keep Pakistan on a tight leash. 33-2 (9)

Wicketkeeper Rahim has come up to the stumps now, to Hossain. Misbah hits it to the covers where another good stop saves the boundary. Bangladesh have already showed their prowess on the field and have managed to stop quite a few runs.

Hafeez drives a full ball down the ground which goes past the bowler for a four. Mortaza then bowls on the leg side which Hafeez helps round the corner to beat the short fine leg fielder to get another four.

WICKET!!! Pak 19-2 (5.2 ovs)

Younis Khan lbw b Hossain 1 (5b)

Younis Khan does not last long. Hossain's incoming delivery catches him right in front of the stumps and umpire Ian Gould has no hesitation in ruling in the bowler's favour this time around.

Younis walks back shaking his head and was clearly showing his bat to the umpire as if to indicate an inside edge.

A big wicket for Bangladesh that!

Captain Misbah-ul-Haq promotes himself up in the batting order and will look to build the innings after this horror start. He clips a full ball through square leg for three runs which gets him off the mark. 22-2 (6)

Hafeez gets lucky yet again! He gets a thick outside edge as he looks to drive Mortaza through the off-side but the short point fielder fails to take the catch. Mortaza is disappointed that the fielder failed to make the opportunity count. And there is more pain for Mortaza as Hafeez clips him through the leg side for a four. 27-2 (7)

WICKET!!! Pak 16-1 (4.2 ovs)

Nasir Jamshed c Mahmudullah b Mortaza 9 (8b, 2x4)

Bangladesh are keeping things tight after giving away two boundaries in the first over. There is a fielder at short cover for Hafeez, which is making him vary as he looks to drive through the off-side.

Hossain also following the basics and keep it simple against Hafeez, who can only defend it straight to the fielders.

There is a huge appeal for LBW against Hafeez as Hossain gets one to dart in sharply. Replays show that Hafeez was struck on the backfoot and was lucky to have got the benefit of doubt in that case.

He hits the next ball through covers but once again a brilliant stop in the covers to stop a certain boundary. That is a maiden over from Hossain, who was unlucky not to have picked up a wicket in that over. 16-0 (4)

Pakistan must be getting frustrated with the lack of runs in the last couple of overs. Bangladesh are sticking to a plan here, and that is to force the batsmen into a mistake by drying up the runs.

And the plan works to perfection!

Jamshed looks to break the shackles as he gives himself room and looks to loft Mortaza over the off-side but hits it straight to the cover fielder to be dismissed for nine.

Younis Khan is beaten all ends up by an outswinging delivery from Mortaza off the first ball he faces. He has another close shave as his outside edge falls just short of the first slip fielder

Pak 16-0 (3 ovs)

Hafeez gets his first boundary in the next over as he slaps a short wide ball from Nazmul Hossain through the covers. But the right-hander is beaten off the very next ball as Hossain gets one to come in a bit. Hafeez plays the rest of the over straight to the fielders on the off-side. 14-0 (2)

Jamshed hits the first ball of Mortaza's second over straight to mid-on. He smashes the second ball through covers as Mahmudullah stops a certain boundary, giving the batsmen just a single. Mortaza also keeps it tight conceding just a leg bye off the final ball of that over, keeping it tight to Hafeez.

Pak 10-0 (1 over)

Pakistan will be hoping for another good start from their openers -- Mohammad Hafeez and Nasir Jamshed.

Mashrafe Mortaza starts proceedings for Bangladesh with the ball. The first ball is left alone by Mohammad Hafeez and Pakistan get off the mark soon after as Mortaza bowls a wide ball next up.

Hafeez then gets his first run as he gets a single on the off-side.

Jamshed is carrying on from where he left off in the last match. He gets off the mark with a boundary as he flicks Mortaza through square leg and repeats that shot two balls later for another four.
