IPL: Sehwag, Negi help Delhi crush Rajasthan

In the end, Delhi were too strong for Rajasthan, who batted strongly in the first seven overs but after they kept losing wickets to lose control of the match.

Delhi are firmly on top in the IPL standings with 16 points from ten matches, while Rajasthan are sixth with eight points from as many games.

Negi caused the damage with the ball as he took four for 18 to turn the match after Rajasthan had made a strong start with the bat.

And then Sehwag took centrestage with a blazing innings of 73 from 38 balls to take Delhi to an emphatic six wicket victory, with 28 balls remaining.

Part-timer Ashok Menaria introduced into the attack. Ojha cuts the first ball past point for a boundary and then lofts the next ball overs for a SIX to finish off the match.

Delhi Daredevils cruise to an emphatic six-wicket victory, while Rajasthan have now lost four matches in a row.

Delhi now need 14 from six overs for victory. Hogg comes on to bowl his final over. Delhi are taking it easy at the moment and looking to cruise to victory.

And Hogg gets the big wicket of Sehwag in his final over. The Delhi captain tries to chip it over the off-side but hits it straight to Dravid at point.

Sehwag entertained with a blazing knock of 73 from 38 balls, hitting 12 fours and a six.

Youngsters Naman Ojha and Nagar out in the middle as Delhi need eight runs from five overs for victory.

Yogesh Nagar is the new batsman and his role will be to just give the strike to his captain Sehwag.

Nagar gets off the mark in style, with a boundary, as he cuts Chavan and is helped by misfielding from Amit Singh at deep point.

Two balls later, Sehwag thumps it back past the bowler as it races down the ground for a boundary. He then chips down the wicket and hits it to the cover region for a single.

11 runs from that over as Chavan finished with one for 29 in four overs.

Hogg starts the 12th over with a big wide down the leg side to Sehwag. He check Delhi's progress by taking the wicket of Ross Taylor, who top edges a pull shot and is caught by the wicketkeeper.

Taylor fails yet as he is dismissed for six.

Sehwag then cuts a short ball from Hogg behind point for a boundary as Delhi continue to maintain a good run rate despite those two quick wickets.

There is a huge appeal for caught behind against Sehwag as he looks to play it fine, but the umpire turns down the appeal.

At the halfway stage, Delhi are 96 for one, needing another 46 runs in ten overs for victory.

Watson comes back for a new spell and he picks up the wicket of Pietersen to end his stint in IPL 5. Pietersen lofts it straight to the fielder at long-off to be dismissed for 36 from 34 balls.

Ross Taylor walks out to the middle. He gets a bouncer first up which he tries to pull and it goes fine on the leg side for a four to bring up Delhi's 100 in the 11th over.

Hogg to bowl his second over. The spinners are just looking to pitch it outside the leg stump and make the batsmen play across the line.

Sehwag takes a single on the leg side and Pietersen misses the next ball as he looks to do the same. Pietersen then clips it to square leg for two runs and does the same off the next ball.

Sehwag slaps the last ball to the covers to pick up two more runs.

Pankaj Singh back into the attack now to bowl his second over. Pietersen gives him a rude welcome by clobbering the first ball past the cover fielder for a boundary.

Sehwag brings up his half-century in style. He upper cuts a short ball from the pacer for a SIX over thirdman to complete his half-century from just 20 balls.

He is the first batsman in the history of T20 cricket to hit five half-centuries in a row in this format.

Veteran spinner Brad Hogg into the attack now. Rajasthan need a few quick wickets now or else Delhi will run away with the game.

Sehwag lofts Hogg down the ground as it bounces once before being stopped by the fielder at long-on for one.

Rajasthan's bowlers have no where to run now as they are being attacked from both ends.

Pietersen launches Hogg high into the stands at midwicket for the first SIX of the innings. He then chips it over the off-side ring to get two more runs.

Pietersen whacks the next ball straight to long-on who fumbles it slightly but Delhi get just one run.

Watson to bowl his second over. Pietersen just looking to play the singles and watch the action from the other end as Sehwag is tearing the Rajasthan attack to pieces.

Sehwag clips Watson behind square on the leg side for a boundary, his ninth of the innings as he races to 43 from 17 balls.

Pietersen joins in the party as he pulls a short ball from Watson over midwicket for the second boundary of the over.

The first six overs have gone Delhi's way as they have raced to 61 for one, hitting 11 boundaries in total.

Amit Singh is the new bowler for Rajasthan. But Sehwag continues his attacking approach as he lofts the pacer above his head for a four. He flicks the next ball on the leg side for a couple.

Singh foxes him with a slower delivery next up as Sehwag looks to play another big shot but the ball misses everything including the keeper for four byes.

Sehwag looks to have mistimed his chip over the bowler but yet again it clears the fielder at mid-off for another four.

Delhi have raced to 51 for one after five overs.

The experienced Shane Watson into the attack now. He starts with a well directed short ball at Sehwag's rib cage which he fends on the leg side for one.

Watson then beats Pietersen with an excellent delivery that leaves the right-hander after pitching ad takes a single from the next ball.

Sehwag then takes on the short ball from Watson as he pulls it over midwicket for a four. Seven runs from Watson's first over.

Chavan to bowl the second over and up against him will be Pietersen, who is know to have a weakness against left-arm spinners.

He plays the first ball to long-on for a single. Sehwag is firing on all cylinders. He pulls a short ball through midwicket for a four and then he looks to heave the next ball on the leg side but gets a thick inside edge but that also goes to the boundary behind square on the leg side.

Sehwag makes it a hat-trick of fours as he lofts Chavan through midwicket to race to 20 from six balls. He survives off the next ball as he charges down the wicket but gets an inside edges that takes the ball away from the keeper.

Pacer Pankaj Singh to bowl the second over. Pietersen pulls the first ball to midwicket for a boundary, the first in Delhi's innings.

Pankaj then beats Pietersen with a good outswinger that moves a lot and beats him outside the off-stump. Sehwag then cuts a wide delivery past a diving Rahane at point for a boundary and then flicks the next ball through fine leg to end the over with another four.

Left-arm spinner Ankeet Chavan to start bowling for Rajasthan. And he strikes in the very first over with the big wicket of Mahela Jayawardene.

Jayawardene looks to play that across the line on the leg side but misses the ball and in struck right in front of the stumps to be dismissed LBW for a duck.

And Kevin Pietersen walks out to bat in his final appearance for Delhi in this year's IPL. He gets off the mark with a single to long-off as Delhi get just one from the first over.

Good start for Rajasthan with the ball.

Delhi continue their good showing in the final few overs. Yadav bowling a perfect line and length in the final over. He is keeping it full and on the stumps and Rajasthan can get only four singles from the first four balls.

Goswami chips the fifth ball over the bowler for two runs and then gets a single on the leg side.

Rajasthan finish on a modest 141 for six in their 20 overs.

The hosts kept losing wickets at regular intervals to lose the plot in the second half of their innings. In the last five overs, Rajasthan managed just 37 runs, despite losing just one wicket.

Dravid looks to heave Morkel on the leg side but gets an inside edge which hits the pads and goes on to the stumps.

Dravid walks back after a good knock of 57 from 43 balls, having hit seven boundaries.

Ankeet Chavan is the new batsman and the left-hander flicks Morkel through midwicket for a boundary.

Morkel produces another good over, giving away six runs and takes a wicket too.

Rajasthan will need a few boundaries to lift the tempo here. They will be up against the express pace of Yadav.

Two singles from the first three balls before Dravid chips it over the cover region but gets only two runs.

But still no boundaries for Rajasthan as Yadav concedes just five runs in that over.

Morkel comes on to bowl his third over after a good first spell. A huge appeal against Goswami off the first ball of that over but the umpire turns it down.

Dravid then gives himself room and plays an elegant cover drive for a boundary to bring up his half-century from 35 balls. His wife and two sons who are at the stadium will be delighted to see Dravid get his fifty.

Eight runs from that Morkel over.

Goswami breaks the shackles as he takes a few steps down the wicket and drives Sehwag through the covers for a four, the first boundary after 30 balls.

Two balls later, Dravid gets another boundary as Pathan misfields on the midwicket boundary.

Rajasthan get things going in that over as they get 11 runs from Sehwag's second over.

Nadeem to bowl his final over. Dravid starts the over with a single to bring up his team's 100 before Nadeem bowls a wide down the leg side to Goswami.

Rajasthan are struggling to get going at the moment and they can only get singles. It has been 29 balls without a boundary as Nadeem concedes five in his final over to finish with 33 runs in four overs.

Poor batting by the middle order has left Rajasthan in trouble. They were cruising at one stage with the openers putting on 71 inside nine overs before Delhi's young spinner Negi caused the damage with a four-wicket burst.

Rajasthan have lost their last four wickets for just eight runs in the space of 13 balls.

With the spinners doing well, captain Virender Sehwag brings himself into the attack. Sreevats Goswami defends the first ball before getting a single from the next.

Just four singles from that over as Rajasthan reach 99 for five in 14 overs.

Rajasthan keep losing wickets at regular intervals. Young Negi picks up his third wicket as Hodge chips it straight to Sehwag at point to be dismissed for one.

Rajasthan have lost three wickets for six runs in the space of nine balls.

And soon Negi has another wicket, his fourth of the innings, with the final delivery of his spell.

Ashok Menaria hits one straight down the throat of Kevin Pieterson at long-off to be dismissed for two.

Negi gets two wickets in that over to finish with four for 18 in four overs.

Umesh Yadav back into the attack now. Dravid and Owais Shah take singles from the first two balls.

Dravid cuts a short ball over the point fielder but he gets just one and Shah falls off the next delivery.

Shah walks across his stumps and looks to flick it on the leg side but Yadav gets it to bounce a bit extra, hitting the gloves before being caught by the wicketkeeper for one.

Brad Hodge is the new batsman and he walks out to join his captain Dravid. The veteran Australian gets off the mark with a single down the ground.

That was a good over from Yadav, giving away just five runs while taking the wicket of Shah.

Dravid then gets a boundary as he cuts a short ball from Negi past the point fielder from the first ball of the over.

Dravid paddle sweeps the next ball for two runs on the leg side.

Negi then delivers another big blow for Rajasthan as he bowls Watson for eight. The Australian all-rounder looks to slog it on the leg side but misses the ball and is bowled.

Delhi's two left-arm spinners have helped them make a good comeback after the initial onslaught from the Rajasthan openers.

Rahane throws his wicket away with a reckless shot. After hitting his way to 42 from 32 balls, Rahane attempts the reverse sweep against Negi to a ball pitched outside the leg-stump and he chips it straight to Sehwag at point.

He was looking good for a big knock but a poor shot cost him his wicket.

Negi also deserves the credit for that wicket as he created pressure by bowling a tight over.

An excellent over from Negi as he concedes just two runs, while getting the key wicket of the in-form Rahane.

Three singles from the first three balls of Nadeem's second over. Dravid maintains the tempo as he plays the inside out chip over the covers for a boundary. The Rajasthan captain ends the over with a single as they get eight runs from that over.

The fielding restrictions are off now and it will be interesting to see if Rajasthan continue their attacking approach.

Left-arm spinner Pawan Negi into the attack now. Rahane takes a single from the first ball and Negi bowls a wide down the leg side.

Dravid hits an uppish drive down the ground as Negi makes a valiant effort diving to his right but cannot hold on to the catch.

Three balls later Rahane looks to play the slog sweep but gets a top edge which falls in the vacant spaces on the leg side for two runs.

There is no stopping Rahane now. He takes on Morkel as he cuts a short wide ball over the point region for a boundary.

Morkel then gives Rahane something to think about as he gets it to bounce a bit extra and the right-hander misses the attempted cut shot.

Morkel then hits Rahane on the helmet with another fast bouncer. He looked to play the pull shot but was beaten for pace.

Six runs from that over as Rajasthan reach 56 after six overs.

The impressive Shahbaz Nadeem into the attack now. He has been one of the best bowlers for Delhi in this year's IPL and he needs to make a breakthrough soon.

Three singles to start the over before Dravid pulls a short ball through midwicket for a boundary. That was too easy for a batsman of the class of Dravid.

Rahane continues the flow of boundaries as he lifts it over Pathan at mid-on for another four.

Rajasthan have raced to 50 for no loss after five overs with Rahane on 31 from 17 balls and Dravid on 17 from 13 balls.

Delhi are desperate for a wicket now. They bring back their best bowler into the attack in Morne Morkel.

Dravid defends the first ball before taking a single from the next. Rahane looks unstoppable at the moment. Morkel bowls a good short ball outside the off-stump and Rahane steers it past the point fielder for a couple.

A good first over from Morkel as he concedes just four runs.

Rahane is turning it on as he starts the third over with back to back boundaries off Pathan. The first ball is lifted over mid-on while he caresses the next ball through the cover region to race to 17 from nine balls.

Pathan goes around the wicket now but nothing can stop the Rajasthan openers at the moment. This time it is Dravid who punches a short ball through the covers for another boundary, the third of the over.

Rahane makes it four boundaries in that over as he finds the gap yet again in the covers.

Rajasthan Royals are off to a flying start as they race to 34 after three overs.

India's pace sensation Umesh Yadav to bowl the second over. Dravid takes a single from the next ball before a wide down the leg side from the young pacer.

Rahane cuts the next ball through the point region for a boundary and two balls later he takes a single.

Dravid ends the over with a boundary as he flicks a full delivery on the pads through the midwicket region.

Irfan Pathan opens the bowling for Delhi and up against him are the Rajasthan openers -- Rahul Dravid and Ajinkya Rahane.

Dravid defends the first ball before Pathan gets the second ball to bounce a bit extra on the former India batsman, who fends it to the thirdman region for one.

Rahane then pulls a short ball from Pathan to the square leg for the first boundary of the match. Seven runs from the first over from Pathan.

Rajasthan Royals captain Rahul Dravid wins the toss and elects to bat against Delhi Daredevils, in the 43rd match of the Indian Premier League, in Jaipur, on Tuesday.

Rajasthan got a big boost as Australian all-rounder Shane Watson was included in the side in place of the injured Kevon Cooper.

"Kevin Cooper has had a small fracture in his knee and he will be out for four or five weeks. We will miss him but luckily we have Shane Watson coming in," said Rajasthan captain Dravid.

Delhi make one change to their team, with left-arm spinner Pawan Negi replacing pacer Ajit Agarkar.

After posting an impressive 186-4, Deccan Chargers held their nerves to beat Pune by 13 runs  

 

Requiring 23 off the final over, Pune could only manage 173-5 off their 20 overs.

 

Sourav Ganguly and Michael Clarke looked good for Pune but could see the team cross the finishing line.

Dale Steyn in for his final over -- Pune must be regretting the 18 & 19 overs, which could turn out to be the eventual difference maker. 

 

First up a full toss -- Smith flicks it to boundary -- a no ball call from the umpire.

 

Smith then flicks one fine -- but only a single. Another full toss from from Steyn as Uthappa carves one through the off-side -- but only a couple.

 

Pune were 147-3 after 18 overs. The visitors still require 40 runs from 12 balls.

 

Smith is on 39, while Uthappa is on 16.

After removing Michael Clarke in the previous over, Deccan struck once again -- this time set Sourav Ganguly for 45.

 

Ganguly looking to slog one made room for himself but hits it straight to White. Two set batsmen gone for Pune.

 

At the end of 13 overs Pune were 100-3. Uthappa is on 4, who opened his account with a boundary, while Smith is on 6.

Deccan finally manage to get the breakthrough as Michael Clarke is run out for 40.

 

Veer Pratap Singh should feel he is unlucky as Shikhar Dhawan dropped a sitter.

 

Clarke tried to flick on the leg side but got a leading edge that went high in the air where Dhawan steadied himself only to drop it.

 

But Mishra was alert enough to pick up the ball and throw it to Parthiv, who broke the stumps with Clarke just short of completing the second.  

 

Pune were 91-2 after 12 overs. Ganguly is on 45 along with Smith who is yet to open his account.

Ashish Reddy comes in as Deccan has put the brakes on scoring as far as Pune is concerned.

 

After losing Manish Pandey off the first ball, Michael Clarke and Sourav Ganguly have put on an important partnership for the first wicket.

 

Pune have been dealing in singles so far and have failed to get the big shots in.

 

All singles in this over as Pune were 80-1, still requiring 107 runs off 54 balls. Required rate is touching 12-runs-per-over. Ganguly is on 40, Clarke is on 36.

Steyn back for his second over and Ganguly gives himself a bit of charge and smacks it for a boundary -- good start to the over.

 

Ganguly plays is sensibly taking a single giving the strike back to Clarke.

 

Steyn to Clarke as the Australian flicks one over square-leg for a boundary. Next up Clarke cuts behind point for the third boundary off the over.

 

Steyn puts it wide again as Clarke repeats the stroke for the fourth boundary off the over.

Dale Steyn now comes in the fourth over. Last one was a good one for Pune as Clarke smoked two boundaries off Veer Pratap Singh.

 

First up is a good length delivery outside off stump -- plays from crease -- no run.

 

Steyn is working up pace as he digs one short -- Ganguly plays ugly looking jab but still goes to the boundary.

 

Next up he caresses one through the off-side for another boundary -- Vintage Ganguly.

 

At the end of four overs Pune were 29-1. Clarke is on 16, Ganguly is on 13.

Courtesy of a brilliant 153 runs stand between Kumar Sangakkara (82) and Cameroon White (74) has powered Deccan to 186-4.

 

Deccan were struggling after they lost the openers in quick succession, but then the duo started off slowly then took off in the final five overs.

 

Overs no. 18 and 19 were the most productive as 50 runs came from two overs from Ganguly and Nehra.

 

Wayne Parnell was the most successful bowler for Pune with 1-25 from his four overs.

Cameron White now cracks his second 50 of the IPL 5 with a single off Bhuvneshwar Kumar.

 

White along with Sangkkara have revived the Deccan innings and now have turned the pressure back on the visitors.

 

Sanga suddenly exploded on the scene with four boundaries then two boundaries off the following over as Deccan look to get the move on.

 

And as we speak, White smokes Ganguly over midwicket for a HUGE SIX!!!!

 

He follows it up with another huge one and then another one. White follows it up with a boundary. A BIG OVER for Deccan as they whalloped 18 runs from the over.

 

Deccan at the end of 18 overs were 155-2. White is on 74, while Sanga is on 58.

Samuels brought back into the attack and Sangakkara makes room and hits the ball over extra cover for a boundary.

 

Next up Sanga backs away cuts -- gets a thickish edge -- consecutive boundaries for skipper.

 

Guess Deccan have targetted him as Sanga lofts the next one over Samuels' head for the third boundary off the over -- Big over for Deccan.

 

Sangakkara next up -- down on one knee-- snaps one over fine leg for the fourth boundary off the over.

 

The White-Sanga duo have put on a 99 runs stand for the third wicket.

 

After 16 overs Deccan were 122-2. Sanga is on 58, White is on 48.

The going has been tough as the batsmen have struggled on a slowish pitch, but Cameroon White and Kumar Sangakkara have steadied the ship somewhat after Deccan lost the openers for not too many.

 

White has been the agressor of the two as he has not allowed the bowlers to settle in, getting the odd boundaries.

 

Ganguly has mixed his bowlers well and have used himself -- keeping things quite from one end.

 

And as we speak, Sanga plays one fine for a boundary. Deccan after 13 overs were 85-2. White is on 44, while Sanga is on 26.

Murali Karthik continues as Sangakkara chips down the track for a single after the time-out.

 

White then chips down the track and smashes the forst six of the match -- really nice shot.

 

Couple of singles to round off the over as Deccan were 58-2 after 10 overs.
