Scorecard:

Malinga concedes six runs in his second over, including a boundary to Uthappa off the last ball.

In the first three overs, Jesse Ryder managed to face just one ball, his partner doing the bulk of the batting.

However, Uthappa's (18) is caught short in Munaf's second over, umpire Asad Rauf adjudging him leg before off the third ball.

Michael Clarke comes out to join Ryder.

Jesse Ryder and Robin Uthappa open the batting for Pune while it is expectedly Lasith Malinga starting the proceedings for Mumbai.

Hesitation by Munaf Patel deprives the bowler of an early wicket and helps Uthappa survive. The batsman expresses his gratitude with a classy off drive, Pune's first boundary.

Mumbai Indians won the toss and elected to bat first in their Indian Premier League match against Pune Warriors at the Subrata Roy Sahara stadium on Thursday.

"Hopefully we can get decent runs on the board and put them under pressure," reasoned Harbhajan Singh.

"I'd have batted first as well," admitted Ganguly.
