IPL: De Villiers leads RCB to a stunning 5 wkts win

AB de Villiers' brilliant 17-ball 47 has scripted an unbelivable 5 wickets win here at the Chinnaswamy Stadium over Deccan Chargers.

 

Royal Challengers looked down and out with quick wickets but De Villiers took 23 runs off Dale Steyn and then stroked 19 runs off the Anand Rajan over to hand them a victory.

 

Dilshan contributed with a vital 71, while Mayank Agarwal too used the long handle to good effect.

Royal Challengers Bangalore are losing the plot here as Tillkaratne Dilshan now departs for 71.

 

Veer Pratap Singh -- the bowler who was hit for a boundary off the previous ball.

 

Singh this time round gets it right low -- almost a yorker as the ball crashes onto the middle stump to give Deccan the upper hand.

 

At the end of 16 overs Royal Challengers were 130-4. RCB need another 52 runs off 24 balls.

Amit Mishra to start a fresh over and as we speak he has Virat Kohli on his way back to the pavillion courtesy of a stunner by Dale Steyn at long -off boundary.

 

Kohli can't believe it as he had connected it really well.

 

Mishra claims his second wicket as he had Asad Pathan slicing one to the same fielder -- Steyn for just four runs.

Anand Rajan provided the much-need breakthrough as he castles Chris Gayle for 26.

 

It was a brilliant response from the medium pacer as Gayle had tonked him for the biggest six of the tournament.

 

Rajan followed it up with a brilliant yorker to see the middle and off-stump out of the park.

 

At the end of 11 overs Royal Challengers were 93-1. Dilshan is on 62, while Kohli is on 2.

A brilliant half-century from Tillakartne Dilshan is leading Royal Challengers' charge, chasing 182.

 

Dilshan has been the aggressor of the two, while Gayle has been in the middle being the support partner.

 

Dilshan took on Ashish Reddy, where he smashed boundary and six to set the tone and have been getting 10-runs off the per.

 

At the end of 9 overs, Bangalore were 74-0. Dilshan is on 59, while Gayle is on 13.

Royal Challengers Bangalore are off to a postive start chasing 182 for victory.

 

Tillakaratne Dilshan has been the aggressor of the two, while Gayle has been struggling to get the timing on the ball.

 

Dilshan starts off with a dil-scoop off Anand Rajan to add to his tally off 4 fours and one six.

 

At the end of 6 overs Royal Challengers were 46-0. Dilshan is on 35, while Gayle is on 10.

Shikhar Dhawan smoked a brilliant 52-ball 73 and Cameroon White hit 24-ball 45 helped Deccan to post 181-2 after being put into bat first.

 

It been a strong performance from Deccan who is languishing at the bottom and could make things tough for Royal Challengers.

 

Muralitharan has been the pick of the bowlers with figures of 4-018-0.

A brilliant 50-runs stand between Shikhar Dhawan and Cameron White means the visitors are turning the heat on Royal Challengers.

 

A length ball from Parameshwaran as Dhawan swibbles across and swats it across fine leg for a maximum.

 

The bowler quickly goes back to his length as Dhawan takes a single. White rounds off the over with a single as Deccan were 156-1.

 

Dhawan is on 71, while White is on 35.

Prasanth Parameswaran comes into the attack and Dhawan welcomes him with a boundary through point.

 

A short of length delivery from Parameswaran, Dhawan cuts him for the boundary.

 

Dhawan then smacks it on the other side of the pitch for consecutive boundaries, which brings his 50.

 

At the end of 15 overs Deccan were 117-1. Dhawan is on 52, while White is on 15.

Royal Challengers Banagalore got the breakthrough they were looking for courtesy of a run out.

 

Daniel Harris who has played well for Deccan, was run out at the non-strikers end for 47.

 

Dhawan pushed a Syed Mohammed delivery and called in for a non-existent single and then said no.

 

Harris tried to get back but it was too late for him.

 

Deccan were 87-1 after 12 overs. Dhawan is on  37, while White is yet to open his account.

Spin now on both ends as Tillakaratne Dilshan comes in after Muralitharan's fantastic first over.

 

And as we speak Daniel Harris clears his front leg and smokes it to a massive six. Harris follows it up with a boundary behind square leg -- good over this.

 

Harris repeats the stroke, but this time it goes beyond the boundary for the second six of the over.

 

At the end of 8 overs Deccan were 65-0. Harris is on 33, while Dhawan is on 29.

Deccan are off to  decent start after being put into bat first. Dhawan has been the aggressive partner stroking boundaries at will.

 

Royal Challengers have been poor with the ball as well -- especially Abhimanyu Mithun who has leaked runs from one end.

 

Daniel Harris meanwhile has struggled to come to terms with the pitch, but is there figthing it out.

 

But as we speak, Harris pulls one from outside of off stump and smoked it past square-leg for a maximum.

 

At the end of 5 overs Deccan were 39-0. Dhawan is on 22, while Harris is on 14.

Well Daniel Harris comes out in the middle for Deccan Chargers along with Shikhar Dhawan, while Zaheer Khan has the bowl in his hand.

 

Shikhar Dhawan gets the ball rolling with a boundary -- just a clip off his legs. Dhawan has been the man in form for Deccan.

 

Royal Challengers need to win at least 4 matches out of six left to have any chance to qualify for play offs.

 

Couple off balls later Dhawan gets an inside edge -- the ball flies to the boundary much to the delight of the fans.

After the brilliant match at the Wankhede, news from Bangalore is that Royal Challengers have won the toss and have elected to field first against Deccan Chargers.

The home team needs 16 runs off the last over. Ben Hilfenhaus to bowl.

The Aussie strikes second ball, crashing into Lasith Malinga's (0) defence. Mumbai look dead and buried.

Dwayne Smith (24 not out) reignites hopes by smashing the fourth ball for a six over long-on and following it up by hitting the fifth straight over the bowler's head for a boundary. 

He seals the match with a boundary off the last ball. 

Mumbai win by two wickets to complete a double over the defending champions.

With 25 needed off the final two overs, the home team suddenly find themselves on the back foot.

Robin Peterson has come out to join Smith. He fails to open his account, Du Plessis running him out. 

Harbhajan Singh comes out to bat. However, it is Smith who ease the pressure with a six off the fourth ball.

Bravo has Harbhajan (0) caught by Vijay off the last ball.

Dinesh Karthik (11) eases the pressure with successive boundaries off Bravo. But the bowler has the last laugh, cleaning up the batsman with the final ball off what is his third over.

Ambati Rayudu comes out to bat. He is cleaned up by Jadeja before he can open his account.

Dwayne Smith comes out to bat. Not a right time for him to make his Mumbai debut.

Jadeja strikes again with his final ball of the over, rattling Sharma's (60) stumps.

A spectacular catch by Faf Du Plessis at cover cuts short Tendulkar's (74) innings, Ashwin being the beneficiary. 

The Master Blasters's 44-ball knock was inclusive of 11 boundaries and a six and he put on 126 runs (off 81 balls) for the second wicket with Sharma. A much needed breakthrough for Chennai this. Will the course of this match change?

Dinesh Karthik comes out to replace Tendulkar. 

Mumbai 136 for two after 16 overs.
19:09   IPL updates: Fifty for Sharma, Mumbai remain on track

Mumbai reach the 100-run mark in the 13th over, courtesy a Sharma six off Jakati. The second strategic timeout is taken after the over, with the home team on 106 for one.  

Ravindra Jadeja is brought into the attack after the breather and the Master Blaster welcomes him with a boundary through cover, the shot helping raise the 100-run partnership for the second wicket. 

Rohit Sharma reaches his half century in the next over, with a single of Jakati, the latter goes for 15 in the over.

Mumbai 131 for one after 15 overs.

Sharma (on 31) gets a reprieve when Ashwin puts him down at third man, Bravo being the unfortunate bowler. The home team is comfortably placed at 70 for one going into the first strategic timeout. 

Shadab Jakati comes into the attack after the breather, replacing Ashwin (2-0-13-0). He concedes just four runs first up.

Morkel replaces Bravo (2-0-19-0) in the 11th over.Tendulkar goes ballistic in the over, hitting the third ball past cover to the boundary, the fifth for a six over fine leg and the final for another boundary over extra cover, the last helping him reach a well-deserved half century.

18:36   IPL updates: Tendulkar, Sharma help Mumbai consolidate

Albie Morkel's second over is an expensive one, Tendulkar hitting as many as three boundaries in the same. 

Hilfenhaus continues with his third over and Sharma smashes the second ball to the long-off boundary. He ends the over with a six over midwicket.

R Ashwin replaces Morkel (2-0-20-0) in the sixth over. He goes for eight runs in his first over, with Tendulkar finding the boundary off the last ball.

It's a twin bowling change for Chennai as Dwayne Bravo replaces Hilfenhaus (3-1-18-1) in the attack in the next over. Sharma welcomes the West Indies bowler with a boundary past point, the shot helping his side reach the 50-run mark.

The fourth ball yields a similarv result for Sharma as Bravo goes for 10 runs in his first over. The 50-run partnership for the second wicket (off 31 balls)  is reached in Ashwin's second over.

Scorecard:

Ben Hilfenhaus has provided Chennai with an early breakthrough. The Australian strikes with the second ball of his second over, having James Franklin (1) caught by Murali Vijay at mid on. 

Rohit Sharma comes out to bat.

18:09   IPL updates: Mumbai off to a sedate start at Wankhede
Scorecard:

Sachin Tendulkar and James Franklin open the batting for Mumbai while it will be Ben Hilfenhaus starting the proceedings for the visitors. The Australian bowls a maiden over first up. 

Albie Morkel to share the new ball. He concedes eight runs in his first over, seven of them to Tendulkar. 

Mumbai eight without loss after two overs.




17:48   IPL updates: Mumbai requires 174 to win against Chennai
Scorecard:

Malinga to bowl the final over of the Chennai innings. 

He bowls a good last over, giving away just four runs and having Jadeja (9) caught by Franklin at point.

He ends having Badrinath caught by Harbhajan at midwicket. His third wicket of the innings takes his tournament total to 20, ahead of Morne Morkel in the race for the purple cap.

Chennai manage 173 for eight in their stipulated 20 overs. A formidable total this. 

It will take some effort from Mumbai to attain the same.
17:40   IPL updates: RP Singh strikes pegs back Chennai charge

The fourth wicket stand between Dhoni and Bravo yielded Chennai 44 runs off just 22 balls, precisely what the team needed at that stage. 

Albie Morkel comes out to bat. 

RP returns to bowl in the penultimate over and strikes third ball, having Dhoni (25) caught by Rohit Sharma at long on. Ravindra Jadeja marks his arrival with a first ball six off RP.

The bowler though cleans up Morkel (three) with his final delivery.

Chennai 169 for six after 19 overs. 
17:32   IPL updates: Bravo out after helping Chennai consolidate
Scorecard:

Robin Peterson replaces Munaf (3-0-35-0) in the attack in the 16th over and concedes 15 runs, Dhoni hitting a six and a boundary off successive balls.

Munaf is back after that Franklin over. Bravo hits the fourth ball for a six over long on even as 11 runs come from the over. Munaf ends with unenviable figures of none for 46 off his four. 

Malinga returns to bowl the 18th over. Bravo (40) hits the third and fourth balls for successive boundaries. However, the bowler has the last laugh cleaning up the West Indies player with a yorker.

17:17   IPL updates: Franklin strikes first ball, Raina out
Scorecard:

Raina smashes the first ball of Smith's second over over deep midwicket for a six. Chennai reach the 100-run mark in the over. 

Munaf replaces Harbhajan (3-0-14-0) in the attack in the 13th over. The 50-run partnership for the third wicket is attained in the over.

James Franklin comes in to bowl in the 15th over. He strikes first ball, having Suresh Raina (36) caught by RP Singh.

Raina's 21-ball knock was inclusive of three boundaries and two sixes and he put on 62 runs (off 45 balls) for the third wicket with Bravo. 

MS Dhoni comes out to bat. He hits the second ball he faces to the midwicket fence.

Chennai 123 for three after 15 overs.

Scorecard:

RP's third over is an expensive one, eight runs coming off it with Raina finding his way to the fence. Chennai go into the first strategic timeout at 68 for two.

Harbhajan is back to bowl after the breather and gives away only four runs. Dwayne Smith replaces RP  (3-0-20-1) in the attack in the 11th over. 

Raina steps up the gas in the over with a boundary and a six as 13 runs come off it. Him and Bravo have put Chennai back on track.

16:40   IPL updates: Mumbai hit back with successive strikes

Munaf (2-0-27-0) has expectedly been replaced after that expensive 24-run over. RP Singh to  bowl the seventh over now. 

He strikes second ball, rattling Murali Vijay's (41) timber. The crowd erupts. Vijay's 29-ball knock was inclusive of four boundaries and three sixes. 

Dwayne Bravo comes out to join Suresh Raina at the crease. He starts with a boundary. Harbhajan Singh replaces Malinga (2-0-10-0) in the attack in the eighth over. The MI skipper starts off well.

16:30   IPL updates: Chennai stay on top despite early wicket

Du Plessis (on four) is dropped at short fine leg off Munaf. 

It is four bowling changes in four overs for Mumbai as Lasith Malinga replaces RP (1-0-8-0) in the attack in the fourth over. He starts well, giving away just four. 

Munaf's second over is an expensive one, with Vijay hitting three sixes and a boundary.

However, in Malinga's second over, RP  atones for his  earlier blemish by running out Du Plessis (9).

Murali Vijay and Faf du Plessis open the batting for Chennai while it is Robin Peterson first up for Mumbai. 

Vijay hits the first ball of the innings through covers for a four even as seven runs come off the over.

15:36   Mumbai Indians win toss, ask Chennai to bat first
Mumbai Indians won the toss and invited Chennai Super Kings to bat first in their Indian Premier League match at the Wankhede stadium on Sunday. 

The moment he got it right with the coin Harbhajan Singh, the Mumbai captain, had no hesitation in putting the visitors in. 

His opposite number, MS Dhoni, admitted he would have also had a bowl first.
