IPL: Hussey, Gurkeerat hand Punjab a famous win

David Hussey smoked a brilliant 27-ball 50 to keep Punjab in the hunt with a massive six off TP Singh.

 

And as we speak, Chitnis has edged one to Parthiv to give Deccan the breakthrough.

 

Punjab have lost wickets at regular intervals and that's been undoing for Punjab.

 

Chawla comes in the middle and smokes one through point for a boundary. He then repeats the feat, this time with a scoop over slips for second boundary off the over.

 

But Steyn has the last laugh as he squares up Chawla and edges it to White. Punjab need 41 runs off 18 balls.

First up Mahmood smacks a boundary off TP Sudhindra, then Hussey smokes him for a massive six over midwicket.

 

A misfield means the dup will steal a couple off the over. A couple to round off an expensive over, which yielded 16 runs.

With this victory, Rajasthan continue to stay alive in the tournament with 14 points from 14 matches.

Pune have now equalled the worst ever losing sequence in the history of IPL. This was their eighth successive loss in the tournament to equal the record set by Kolkata Knight Riders in the 2009 tournament.

Stuart Binny to bowl the final over with 55 runs needed from the last over. Nehra and Kartik have a few wild swings but fail to get any off the middle. Nehra gets a boundary off the final delivery as he gets a thick outside edge that speeds past the wicketkeeper.

Pune finish on 125 for nine in their 20 overs to lose by a big margin of 45 runs.

The wickets continue to tumble for Pune. Watson gets his first wicket of the day as Mathews chips it straight to the fielder at long-on to be dismissed for 23 from 19 balls.

Four balls later Watson claimed the second wicket of the over courtesy of some brilliant fielding from Botha at long-off. He had to run a few steps back to take the catch but the momentum was carrying him over the ropes and Botha shows great presence of mind to flick the ball to Rahane, who completes the catch.

Tait is back into the attack and he gets a wicket. Bhuvaneshwar Kumar was beaten all ends up by a fast full delivery from Tait which crashes into his off-stump.

A loud appeal for LBW against Murali Kartik off the very next ball.

Three more singles to end the over as Pune reach 109 for seven after 17 overs,  needing 62 runs from three overs for victory.

Pune continue to suffer as Botha strikes a wicket now. Ferguson shuffles across his stumps and looks to flick it on the leg side but misses and is trapped LBW after scoring 23 from 26 balls.

Angelo Mathews starts off with a single down the ground.

Smith flicks it behind square on the leg side for two runs. He then smashes a wide delivery through the covers for a boundary.

Sidharth Trivedi now replaces Tait, who bowled two overs for 17 runs. Smith welcomes him with a boundary through the fine leg region as the pacer drifts it on the pads and then takes a single from the next ball.

Eight runs from Trivedi's first over.  At the halfway stage, Pune are 60 for four, needing another 111 runs in ten overs for victory with six wickets in hand.

More on Ashok Chandila, this time from Akash Chopra. "In Delhi circuit, Chandila is regarded as a stingy bowler and not so much a strike bowler. Pune Warriors got the best out of him," writes Chopra on Twitter.

Three singles from the first three balls. Tait overstepped on the third ball and Ferguson got a free hit but he failed to connect.

Ferguson then gets a boundary as he drives a full ball from Tait back past the fast bowler. He then clips it on the leg side and get two more runs as the ball is stopped on the fine leg boundary.

Meanwhile, Mohandas Menon gives some details on Chandila. "Ajit #Chandila 28 yr old from Faridabad Haryana. Played Ranji for Haryana (in just 2 games in 2010). Playing his just 2nd IPL game!" he writes on Twitter.

And Chandila will bowl out here as he comes on to bowl his fourth over. Ferguson hits the first ball towards mid-off for two runs and takes a single two balls later. Smith then flicks it on the leg side for two runs.

Chandila ends with wonderful figures of four for 14 in four over as Pune are struggling at 38 for four in seven overs.

Chandila is on a hat-trick. He completes the feat with another magical delivery. Chandila beats Uthappa in the flight as he sends down the arm delivery and wicketkeeper Goswami completes another simple stumping.

Chandila is celebrating wildly having taken the first hat-trick in this year's IPL.

Shane Watson comes on to bowl the second over. Uthappa defends the first ball and Watson then bowls a wide down the leg side.

Uthappa then lofts Watson straight back over his head to hit the first boundary of Pune's innings.

Sourav Ganguly looks to lead from the front as he walks out to open the batting with Jesse Ryder. Off-spinner Ajit Chandila will open the bowling for Rajasthan.

Ganguly off the mark with a single from the first ball of the innings to the fine leg region and Ryder also does the same from the next ball.

Ganguly is then struck on the pads and there is a huge appeal for LBW but the umpire turns it down and he takes a single from the next ball.

Chandila then gets a wicket in his first over as Ryder looking for a big shot down the ground holes out to Watson at long-off for one.

Ganguly then fails yet again with the bat. He is stumped down the leg side for two as he looks to play it on the leg side but misses the ball and the momentum takes him forward but keeper Goswami is up to the task to take off the bails.

Chandila has two wickets in two balls and he will be on a hat-trick in his next over.

Will Pune break Rajasthan's dominance at home and chase down this huge target? Their batting has not fired in unison and they have struggled to get going in the tournament.

Rajasthan continue to struggle in the death overs. Mathews produces a perfect yorker that beats Rahane to bowl him after a good innings of 61 from 47 balls, having hit seven boundaries.

Johan Botha starts off with a boundary as he plays the reverse paddle to a full toss from Mathews. He then plays the next ball to mid-on and scampers across for two runs before taking a single from the next.

Binny fails to get the big hit from the final to score just one as Rajasthan finish on 170 for one in their 20 overs.

Hodge's struggle ends. He scores a sedate 14 from as many balls before chipping Nehra straight to Ganguly at midwicket.

Nehra is unlucky not to have picked up another wicket in that over. Binny top edges a pull shot but Bhuvaneshwar fails to take a catch running back at square leg.

Rajasthan showing some urgency now. Hodge walks across his stumps but can only flick it to midwicket for one.

Rahane then steps down the wicket and chips it over the cover region for a four. He then gets a boundary off the net ball as he plays it perfectly through the vacant fine leg region.

Another productive over for Rajasthan as they get 11 runs from it.

Leg-spinner Rahul Sharma is now brought back to bowl his third over. Hodge pulls the first ball to midwicket for one.

Rahane then slaps it past the point fielder for a boundary to move to 49.

He then clips it to the leg side to complete his half-century from 40 balls. Hodge drops it on the off-side for a single. Two more singles as Rajasthan get nine runs from that over.

Kartik to bowl his final over. Hodge drives it wide of the long-on fielder and sprints across for two runs and Kartik then sends down a wide down the leg side.

Pune continue to disappoint in the field. This time captain Ganguly is slow to get to the ball at short fine leg and he gives away three runs, when any other fielder would have conceded just two.

A disappointing outing for Kartik, who gives away 39 runs in four overs.

Veteran Nehra is back into the attack as Pune continue to juggle their bowlers. Rahane flicks the first ball past the short fine leg fielder for a boundary as Nehra bowls it way down the leg side.

Nehra then checks Pune's progress as he claims the wicket of Watson, by bowling him with a yorker that sneaked under his bat and on to the stumps. The all-rounder is bowled for a quickfire 58 from 31 balls, having six fours and four sixes.

Brad Hodge is off the mark with two runs through the cover region.

Rahul Sharma comes back into the attack now. Watson heaves the first ball to midwicket where a rare misfield from Steven Smith, running around to his right from long-on, gifts Rajasthan a boundary and he then gets two runs from the next ball.

Watson is threatening to take the game away from Pune here. He waits and cuts a wide ball from Sharma past the point fielder for a four to race to 37 from 19 balls.

He pulls the next ball to mid-on to get one run.

Kartik fails to collect the next ball as Watson ends the over with a single to get 16 runs from that over.

Rahane then clips the next ball to midwicket and they take two runs as Ganguly is the fielder on the ropes. He plays the fourth ball in that same region and once again they get across for two runs as Ganguly fails to collect the ball cleanly.

Ajinkya Rahane and Rahul Dravid walk out to open the batting for Rajasthan. Interestingly, Rajasthan have used the same opening pair for all their 14 matches so far, while Pune have used nearly eight different combinations till now.

Murali Kartik to bowl the first over. He starts with a good delivery which Dravid defends it back to the bowler. The next ball is played wide of the mid-on fielder for a single.

Rahane also defends the first ball he faces and does the same with the next one. Kartik bowls the quicker one down the leg side for a wide plus the batsmen run across for one as wicketkeeper Robin Uthappa fails to collect it.

Dravid then gets the first boundary for Rajasthan as he cuts a short wide ball through point. That four also brings up Dravid's 400 runs in the tournament.

It's a do-or-die situation for 2009 champions Rajasthan Royals as they need to win their remaining three matches to qualify for the play-offs.

They are sixth in the standings with 12 points from 13 matches.

But Pune Warriors are out of the running with just four wins from 14 matches.

Rajasthan Royals captain Rahul Dravid wins the toss and elects to bat against Pune Warriors India in the 60th match of the Indian Premier League, in Jaipur, on Sunday.

Ganguly, who didn't play the last match, is back to lead the Pune side.

It is slightly overcast in Jaipur and there is a threat of rain later during the day.

Rajasthan make two changes. Sreevats Goswami will keep wickets in place of the injured Dishant Yagnik, while off-spinner Ajit Chandila replaces Pankaj Singh.

Pune bring back captain Ganguly, while also including Jesse Ryder and Callum Ferguson. Australia captain Michael Clarke fails to find a place in the team.
