A brilliant 49-ball 56 ensured Delhi Daredevils made it into the play-offs and beat Kings XI Punjab by five wickets.

Delhi were reeling at 37-4 at one moment chasing a paltry 137 for victory, but then a crucial partnership between Naman Ojha and Jayawardene ensured Delhi crossed the finishing line with one over to spare.

Irfan Pathan too contributed with a quickfire 19.

For Kings XI, Parvinder Awana was the pick of the bowlers with 3-22 off his four overs.

Just when Delhi were looking to turn the game on the visitors, Piyush Chawla strikes.

A half-tracker really from Chawla had Naman Ojha going for the pull -- connected it well too but failed to clear Mandeep Singh, who took a neat little catch.

Ojha made 34 off 29 balls, with three boundaries and two sixes.

Jayawardene is the final hope for Delhi now.

Piyush Chawla back for his second over. Kings XI Punjab have done well picking wickets at regular intervals.

Mahela Jayawardene will be the pillar around which Delhi's innings should revolve.

And as we speak, Naman Ojha chips down the track and smokes it for a maximum.

He repeats the stroke with another one -- this time even a bigger six.

Parvinder Awana strikes once again as he removes Venugopal Rao for 7.

Venu looking to steer the ball past the keeper got a thickish edge and was safely pouched by Nitin Saini.

A ball later Ross Taylor is on his way back -- identical dismissal. Ross is not happy, but he will have to go now.

Praveen Kumar strikes in his second over as he fooled David Warner by a slower one and was caught by Azhar Mahmood for 14.

Nice and loud call from Mahmood -- a nothing shot from Warner.

Venu Gopal Rao is in the middle -- surprising to see Mahela Jayawardene not in.

And as we speak Sehwag hits it straight down David Hussey's throat but DROPPED!!!

Delhi pacers have restricted Kings XI Punjab to 136-8.

Punjab after winning the toss elected to bat first, but lost wickets at regular intervals and couldn't get the much-needed momentum.

Delhi bowlers on the other hand were clinical in their job, especially Umesh Yadav who was the pick of the bowlers with figuers of 3-21.

For Punjab David Hussey was the top scorer with 35-ball 40.

Umesh Yadav comes back for his final over and strikes off the first ball.

This time round he had Piyush Chawla knicking one to Naman Ojha behind the stumps for 10.

Praveen Kumar is the next man and creams one through covers for a couple.

Kumar then slices one through third man for a boundary.

Kings XI Punjab have lost half their side as they lost Azhar Mahmood for 9.

Mahmood looking to up the tempo, had smacked Umesh Yadav for a boundary off the previous ball.

The bowler, however had the last laugh as he enticed Mahmood to play a flase stroke and was caught at long on by Irfan Pathan.

Next up is a perfect out swinger from the Delhi pacer -- getting the edge -- Sehwag is there to take an easy catch in the slips.

Varun Aaron back for his second over as Nitin Saini clips him for a boundary through midwicket.

Saini plays it sensibly taking a single across the field.

Next up a Sehwag stunner sends Mandeep back to the pavillion for 21. Mandeep looking to pull the ball fails to keep the ball down and was caught at midwicket.

Neverthless, its a good start for Punjab.

Varun Aaron strikes the first blow for Delhi removing in-form Shaun Marsh for 13.

Round the stumps, Aaron angles the ball across Marsh who gets a faint little knick.

Earlier, Morne Morkel comes into the attack now after Venu Gopal Rao's over saw Punjab help themselves with 13 runs from the over.

Morkel is right on the mark with a lovely pitched up delivery.

Next up another full delivery as the ball thuds into the Marsh's pads -- a loud appeal -- but umpire Dharmadena unmoved.
