Chennai's luck finally ran out as they went down to Kolkata in the final of the fifth edition of the IPL.

Bisla set up Kolkata's victory with a fine innings of 89 from 48 balls, while Kallis brought all his experience into play with a quick 69 from 49 balls.

Chennai's bowlers struggled except for Hilfenhaus, who took two for 25 in four overs.

"I have won the World Cup for Pakistan but this is something different," says former Pakistan captain and KKR bowling coach Wasim Akram.

Kolkata need nine runs from the last over for victory. They are the favourites at this stage with five wickets still in hand.

Bravo to bowl the final over and he is having a long discussion with captain Dhoni.

Tiwary hits it straight to square leg and KKR's batsmen get a single as Ashwin misses with the direct hit at the batting end.

Bravo to go round the wicket to Shakib with the fine leg in the circle. The left-hander plays the sweep to deep square leg for one.

7 needed from four balls for victory. Dhoni again has a long meeting with Bravo.

Tiwary is quick to read the slower ball from Bravo and he swings it over square leg for a four. What a vital blow for KKR!

Hilfenhaus to bowl the crucial 19th over. Kallis is struggling at the moment to run. He forces the first ball to the fielder on the cover boundary but KKR can get only a single with Kallis struggling.

Hilfenhaus then bowls a short delivery which Shakib lets go to the keeper. The Bangladesh left-hander then flicks it to midwicket for two runs.

He then gets a thick outside edge to the covers for one to make it 16 needed from eight balls.

Hilfenhaus then makes another major breakthrough with the wicket of Kallis, who hits a full toss straight to Bravo on the cover boundary.

Kallis is dismissed after a good innings of 69 from 49 balls, having hit seven fours and a six. But he struggled with the injury in the last few minutes but the match is still in the balance.

KKR need 16 from seven balls for victory as Manoj Tiwary walks out to bat.

Hilfenhaus bowls another high full toss and Shakib is caught at mid-on but it is ruled a no-ball for a full toss above the waist.

KKR get three runs from that ball.

Shakib then paddle sweeps it over short fine leg for a boundary to make it nine runs needed from the final over.

Yusuf Pathan's poor run in the tournament continues. He looks to loft Pathan on the leg side but gets a leading edge and is caught on the leg side for one.

A poor shot from Pathan in the circumstances! All he needed was to get a single and give the strike back to Kallis.

Kallis drives the next ball past the cover fielder and comes back for two runs. He whips the next ball through midwicket for another couple.

Kallis is on the ground with some sort of injury on his leg, not clear whether it is hamstring or a cramp.

The veteran South African hits the next ball to long-on for one. Shakib gets off the mark with a single to deep midwicket.

Kallis hits a full toss down to long-on for one to end the over.

Dwayne Bravo back into the attack now and he picks up the wicket of Shukla, who was promoted up the order. Shukla holes out a simple catch straight to Hussey at deep midwicket for three from six balls.

An unnecessary gamble that could come back to haunt Kolkata!!

Kallis is beaten by the slower ball but gets an inside edge for a single.

Yusuf Pathan is the new batsman. Will he look to attack right from the start?

He gets the first ball from the toe end of the bat for one to long-off. Kallis then lofts a wide full delivery perfectly in the gap between the fielder on the cover and mid-off boundary for a much-needed four.

Kallis then slog sweeps the next ball. Hussey takes a few steps back before completing the catch and the momentum carries him over the ropes to give KKR six runs.

Jakati to bowl his final over. Shukla takes a single from the first ball and Kallis jumps down the wicket and lifts it over the bowler's head for a four.

Jakati then drops it short and Kallis pulls it through midwicket for another four to bring up his fifty in some style, from 39 balls.

KKR need 39 runs from four overs for victory.

Bisla takes a single down the ground to move to 89 from 47 balls. Kallis hits the next ball straight to the covers but Bisla is already half way down the pitch. Jadeja misses with his throw at the bowler's end to give Bisla a lifeline.

Kallis then flicks Morkel on the leg side for one.

Morkel then makes the breakthrough, getting the key wicket of Bisla after a good innings of 89 from 49 balls. Bisla gives himself room and looks to play the cut but offers a simple catch to the point fielder.

He added 136 runs from 82 balls for the second wicket with Kallis to put Kolkata in charge.

Laxmi Ratan Shukla is the new batsman for KKR.

A superb over from Morkel, giving away just four runs while taking the wicket of Bisla.

Rajneesh Gupta points out an interesting piece of statistic on Twitter. 'MS Bisla's innings is now the highest for a chasing side in an #IPL final, beating Yusuf Pathan's 56 for RR v CSK in 2008."

Bisla then gets two runs as he top edges the reverse sweep to bring up Kolkata's 100.

At the halfway stage, Kolkata are 100 for one in ten overs, and need 91 from the remaining 10 overs for victory.

Morkel then bowls a short ball to compatriot Kallis who pulls it to deep square leg for one.

Bisla then gives himself a bit of room and punches it through the covers for the second boundary of the over.

Bisla then chips a full ball over the cover region for a four followed by the same stroke off the next ball to make it a hat-trick of fours.

Bisla hit four boundaries in that over to get 20 runs and take Kolkata to 36 for one after four overs.

A huge appeal for LBW against Kallis but it is way down the leg side. Bisla then pulls a short ball over midwicket for his first boundary.

Hilfenhaus then bowls a short ball down the leg side which is called a wide and Bisla takes a single from the next ball.

Hilfenhaus ends the over with two dot balls to Kallis, who hits them straight to the fielders.

Bisla defends the first ball before he gives himself room and cuts the next ball to the thirdman region for one.

Hilfenhaus starts with a short ball outside the off-stump to Gambhir, who fails to get it away. The left-hander then strokes the next ball straight to the fielder at cover.

Gambhir gets a thick outside edge from the next ball and Jakati makes a diving stop at thirdman to stop a certain boundary and give away two runs.

Gambhir is bowled off the final delivery of that over. He is foxed by the slower delivery from Hilfenhaus as he plays all over it to be bowled for two.

Raina's blast made the difference for Chennai as they ended up on a huge 190 for three in their 20 overs in a final. The youngster smashed 73 from 38 balls to consolidate the good start from their openers, Vijay and Hussey.

Chennai's batsmen have once again come good when it matters the most.

Kolkata's bowlers failed to make an impression in a high-pressure game. The failure of Narine stood out as he gave away 37 runs from four overs.

Shakib to bowl the final over of the innings. The left-arm spinner starts with a wide and Dhoni plays the helicopter shot straight to long-on for one.

Raina sweeps the next ball to deep square leg for one and Dhoni gets another single to the same region off the next ball.

Raina drives to the cover region where Manoj Tiwary fumbles inside the boundary to give away two more runs.

Kolkata then gift Chennai another extra run as a wild throw from Abdulla to the keeper gives them  two runs.

Raina hits a full toss to the midwicket region where Lee comes up with a good catch diving forward to end the innings with a wicket.

Raina falls after a superb innings of 73 from 38 balls, having hit three fours and five sixes. Dhoni is unbeaten on 14 from nine balls.

Narine to bowl his final over and he will up against Dhoni. The Chennai captain gets an inside edge off the first ball and gets a thick outside edge off the next for one.

Raina pulls it through midwicket and good fielder from Abdulla on the ropes keep the batsmen down to one. Dhoni pulls it straight to deep square leg for another single.

Raina then gives Narine the charge and lofts him down the ground for another huge six. The left-hander slog sweeps the next ball to end the over with a double.

Narine concedes 37 runs in his four overs, the most he has conceded in the tournament.

Kallis comes back to bowl his final over. He starts the over with a wicket as he bowls Hussey for a quick 54 from 43 balls. The veteran tries to heave it across the line on the leg side but misses and loses his stumps.

MS Dhoni walks out to bat to a huge reception from the Chennai fans. He has been in good hitting form in the recent few matches and he will look to continue the assault.

He starts off with a single in the covers and Raina does the same off the next ball.

Dhoni gives proof of his form as he pulls Kallis behind square on the leg side for a four. He makes it back to back boundaries as he plays the late cut for a four through the thirdman region.

Dhoni has started off positively and Kolkata must be a worried lot now.

Narine to bowl his third over and he will looking to claim a wicket or two in his final two overs.

Raina brings up his half-century in style as he slog sweeps it over midwicket for a six. His fifty has come from just 27 balls and included three four and four sixes.

Raina then flicks it to deep square leg for two runs. He charges down the wicket off the last ball but gets a thick outside edge which falls in the vacant space on the off-side and the two batsmen sprint across for two runs.

Nothing is working for Kolkata at the moment. Raina looks to blast it through the off-side but gets an inside edge which misses the stumps narrowly and they get another couple.

14 runs from that over by Narine, who has now given 26 runs in three overs.

Veteran Brett Lee back for his second spell. Hussey gives himself room but hits it straight to point and runs across for one.

That brings up the 50-run partnership from 29 balls for the second wicket.

Raina is turning it on at the moment! He heaves a short ball from Lee over midwicket for a six to race to 42 from 21 balls.

The left-hander then flicks it behind square on the leg side to get another couple of runs.

Lee follows that up with two good yorkers and Raina can't them away for runs.

It is another yorker to end the over as Raina inside edges it to short fine leg for one.

10 runs from that Lee over as he finishes with 42 runs from four overs.

Raina then charges down the wicket and chips it back over the bowler for a four. Yusuf drops the next ball short and Raina pulls it over midwicket for a six. The next ball is again on the pads and Raina sweeps it behind square on the leg side for a four.

Raina then drives it to extra cover and once again the two left-hander steal two runs before a single from the last ball.

Kallis, who has bowled two overs for 10 runs, comes on to bowl his third over.

Raina takes a single from the first ball and Hussey cuts the next ball past the point fielder for a four. That was a slower delivery and Hussey adjusted quite well, playing it late and getting past the fielder.

He nudges the next ball behind square on the leg side for one.

As expected, Kallis bowls a bouncer to Raina, who goes back and pulls it over midwicket for a six. Kallis follows that up with a quicker bouncer but Raina pulls it, this time in a more controlled fashion, for a single to the fine leg region.

13 runs from that over as Chennai continue to make good progress.

Chennai are sitting pretty at 86 from the first ten overs, with all ten wickets intact. They will once again be looking to post a total in excess of 180.

Kolkata need to strike in the next couple of overs and check Chennai's progress.

And Bhatia delivers the first breakthrough for Chennai with the wicket of the in-form Vijay for 42 from 32 balls.

Vijay pulls a short ball, slightly slower in pace, to the leg side but Shakib dives full length to his left at deep midwicket and completes a good catch to lift Kolkata.

Suresh Raina, who has struggled in this year's IPL, comes in to bat at number three to join Hussey.

Bhatia bowls a slow off-cutter to Hussey who hits it to the leg side for one. Raina then gets a thick outside edge for a single to the thirdman region.

Hussey gets two runs from the final over as Bhatia concedes five runs in that over.

Chennai have been pegged back slightly in the last two overs, giving away nine runs while losing a wicket.

The experienced Kallis to bowl his second over. Vijay hits the first ball to long-on for one and Hussey misses his attempted slog on the leg side.

Hussey, however, takes a quick single from the next ball and Vijay plays and misses outside the off-stump.

Vijay then plays it fine on the leg side for a couple and then shuffles across his stumps to hit it again on the leg side but misses.

Medium pacer Rajat Bhatia into the attack now. Vijay gets a single from the first ball to midwicket while Hussey takes one from the next ball to square leg.

Vijay then takes a single to the covers and Hussey slog sweeps the last ball over midwicket to end the over with a four.

Chennai are looking to run away with the match as they reach 82 after nine overs, with 51 runs coming from the last five overs.

Veteran Jacques Kallis is introduced into the attack now. Hussey hits the first ball straight to the mid-off fielder and then he flicks the next ball on the leg side for one.

Vijay plays the next ball to the square leg for one before Kallis bowls a high bouncer which is ruled a wide.

Two balls he bowls another bouncer at Vijay which again goes over the batsman's head and is called a wide.

"It is a really harsh call," screams Danny Morrison in the commentary box. His fellow Kiwi Billy Bowden was the umpire in question.

Left-arm spinner Iqbal Abdulla into the attack now. Hussey hits the first ball straight to the fielder as he attempts the reverse sweep again before a single on the leg side.

Vijay then hits the third ball through the covers for two runs and then he chips down the wicket through midwicket for a four.

The Chennai opener then hits it through the covers for a couple and hits the last ball of that over straight to the fielder.

Vijay gets into the act now. He lofts the first ball of Lee's third over straight down the ground for a six. He looks to pull the next ball but misses the shot.

Lee then oversteps the bowling crease to give a no-ball and a free hit. Vijay makes good use of the free hit as he flicks it over the short fine leg region for a four.

Hussey continues the punishment on Lee as he steps down the wicket and lofts it over mid-off for the second six of the over. He drives the next ball to mid-off for one as Chennai get 19 runs from that over.

Kolkata are looking for a breakthrough as they introduce Sunil Narine, their premier spinner into the attack now.

Hussey plays the first ball to the covers while flicking the next ball on the leg side for one.

Vijay is beaten off the next ball but gets two runs off the next ball. He ends the over with a single as Narine gives away just four runs in his first over.

Hussey trying to put off Shakib. He attempts the reverse sweep against the left-arm spinner but gets a top edge which flies over the fine leg region for a six.

Two balls later Hussey finally gets the reverse sweep going as he gets it past the short third man fielder for a boundary.

Chennai are finally getting a move on after a slow start.

Hussey then flicks it through midwicket for a couple followed by two more singles.

Chennai 17-0 (3 ovs) vs Kolkata

Hussey hits the first ball straight back to the bowler Lee but he charges down the wicket off the next ball and hits it back over the bowler fora  boundary.

The veteran then picks a single from the next ball and Vijay picks another one from the next ball.

Vijay ends the over with a boundary as he lofts it over the mid-on fielder to take Chennai to 17 after three overs.

Shakib Al Hasan to bowl the second over. Hussey decides to target the left-arm spinner straightaway as he attempts the reverse sweep off the first ball but fails to connect.

He then flicks the next ball to the leg side for one and Vijay drives the next ball to the long-off region to get his first run.

Hussey then plays the ball to the leg side and Vijay is sent back just at the right time, a direct hit would have been interesting.

Hussey tries the reverse sweep again, off the final ball of that over, but once again fails to connect and they run across for a leg bye.

Kolkata have actually made three changes, the last one being Manoj Tiwary replacing Debrata Das.

Mike Hussey and Murali Vijay walk out to open the batting for Chennai to a huge roar from the home crowd. Bree Lee will bowl the first over.

Hussey plays the first ball to the cover region, while he lets the next ball go through to the keeper.

Hussey cuts the next ball through the point region to get two runs and get his team off the mark. He then gets an inside edge to the leg side for a single.

Chennai Super Kings will start as the favourites despite luck playing a big part in them making it to the play-offs. They have won the last two editions of the IPL and have peaked at the right time, winning their last two matches in convincing fashion to enter the final in a confident frame of mind and their players firing on all cylinders.

Kolkata will also be a force to reckon with, having made it to their first IPL final. It will be interesting to see how their spinners Sunil Narine, Shakib Al Hasan and Iqbal Abdulla fare against the Chennai batsmen, who have done well against the spinners in this year's IPL.

Chennai Super Kings captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni wins the toss and elects to bat against Kolkata Knight Riders in the final of the Indian Premier League in Chennai, on Sunday.

Defending champions Chennai, who have won the last two editions of the IPL, go in with an unchanged side that beat Delhi Daredevils in their last match.

Kolkata are forced to make two changes. Laxmipathy Balaji, who hails from Chennai, will miss the match because of an injury, which means Brett Lee comes into the team.

That also forces another change as Brendon McCullum has to make way for keeper Manvinder Bisla.
