WICKET: Gayle c B McCullum b Southee 30 (14b, 3x4, 2x6)

That was a special delivery from Southee, short of good length and moving away from the left-hander...taking the edge as Gayle looked to play inside the line. A big breakthrough for the Kiwis.

Darren Bravo defends the first ball he faces before flicking the next on the leg side for one.

Two more singles to end the over as WI reach 64 for three in seven overs.

"T20 cricket was invented for Gayle," exclaims Nasser Hussain on commentary for ESPN Star Sports. And rightly so!

WI have crossed the 50-run mark in the 6th over with Gayle looking as dangerous as ever.

The next ball is a wide down the leg side before Gayle hits it to deep midwicket for one.

Russell will look to take on the bowlers but Bracewell keeping it tight as the first three balls are hit straight to the fielders on the off-side.

But Bracewell gets his revenge from the next ball. Russell shuffles across his stumps and looks to flick it fine on the leg side but ends up hitting it straight to Franklin at short fine leg.

WICKET: Russell c Franklin b Bracewell 6 (6b, 1x6)

The Russell gamble has failed as Marlon Samuels walks in to bat at No. 4.

WI 9-0 (1 over) vs NZ

West Indies will rest their hopes on the explosive Chris Gayle, who on his day can destroy the best of bowling attacks. Johnson Charles has given Gayle good support at the top, and made his mark with a cracking knock of 84 against England in the group stages.

Pacer Kyle Mills starts the match with a no-ball to give a free hit right away to Charles, who hits it straight to Martin Guptill in the covers.

Charles defends the next ball before throwing his bat at the third ball, which takes the edge and flies past the fielder at first slip for a boundary.

Mills getting the ball to move a bit in the first over. The fifth ball is wide and Charles uses his wrist to good effect as he steers it behind point for another boundary.

A good start for West Indies with nine runs from the first over.
15:30   Vettori and Williamson out for NZ
New Zealand captain Ross Taylor wins the toss and elects to bowl against West Indies in the Super Eights match of the World Twenty20 in Pallekele, on Monday.

New Zealand are without their top bowler Daniel Vettori, who is out because of soreness of his left Achiless, and is replaced by left-arm spinner Ronnie Hira.

Kane Williamson makes way for all-rounder Jacob Oram, who missed the last match because of an injury.

For West Indies, it is a straight swap between the Bravo brothers as the injured Dwayne gives way to Darren, while leg-spinner Samuel Badree replaces pacer Fidel Edwards.

Both teams need to win this match to keep their hopes alive of making it to the semi-finals. The winner will not be guaranteed a place in the last four but their progress will also depend on the result of the Sri Lanka vs England match to be played later.
