Kohli hits a full ball through the covers but a good piece of fielding stops a certain boundary, giving away just one run.

It seems both the teams are playing for stumps, with both of them not interested in forcing the issue.

New Zealand waiting for the second new ball to be available after 80 overs, while India happy to play cautiously till stumps.

Boult into the attack now after a few overs from Patel. Kohli despatches a full delivery on the pads through midwicket for a boundary that takes him to 88.

He punches another one through the off-side but Guptill in the covers comes up with a brilliant diving save to stop a certain boundary.

Guptill does it again off the final ball of that over but a slight misfield gives Kohli a single.

- Scorecard

India 1st inns: 168-4 (46 ovs) vs NZ 1st inns: 365

The crowd cheering for Raina, who is one away from his half-century. It will be a major milestone for the youngster, who has struggled to make a mark in Tests, despite achieving so much success in limited overs cricket.

He is very nervous at the moment and focussing that much extra to get that run and complete his half-century. But Boult keeps him tied to the striker's end and make him wait for the fifty a bit longer.

Raina completes his half-century in Patel's next over as he takes two runs to the vacant thirdman region. It took the left-hander 79 balls to complete the landmark and played an important part in India's recovery.

He is beaten a couple of balls later as it stays low and he tries to play it from the crease without moving the feet, annoying even Sunil Gavaskar in the commentary box.

India continue to attack Patel. This time it is Kohli who steps up and lofts him over mid-on for a huge six and two balls later Raina crashes a full ball through the covers for a boundary.

Patel then bowls a short ball down the leg side and Raina helps it round the corner for another four in the over.

- Scorecard

India 1st inns: 124-4 (33 ovs) vs NZ 1st inns: 365

Jeetan Patel comes back into the attack now. It will be interesting to see how Raina tackles Patel since the left-hander has had some problems with off-spinners in Test cricket.

Raina has shown his intent early as he plays the inside out lofted shot over the cover region for a six. Patel then beats him with a good delivery that spins a lot and bounces too forcing him to be watchful and defend the rest of the over.

Kohli is very watchful against Southee who took the first two wickets of the Indian innings. While Raina finds the boundaries, Kohli is content to bide his time as he picks just a single in Southee's ninth over.

Kohli gets his first boundary as he smashes a full ball from Patel through the covers to move to seven. India are looking to be positive against Patel and not let him settle down. The hosts are 124 for four after 33 overs, still trailing the Kiwis by 241 runs.

But he takes a big stride forward next ball and defends it confidently and plays the next ball to the covers.

He punches it to the covers for a single to bring up India's 100 in the 27th over.

Raina has come out with a positive intent as he hits Bracewell for a hat-trick of fours. The youngster, without any real footwork, reaches out to a full pitched delivery and drills it through the cover for a four and then steers the next ball through the vacant thirdman region.

Bracewell, as expected, tries the bouncer against Raina, who is ready and waiting for it, as he pulls it through midwicket to make it three fours in a row.

Raina has raced to 18 from 14 balls, with four fours, while Kohli is yet to open his account.

WICKET: Tendulkar b Bracewell 17 (50b, 3x4)

Virat Kohli is the new batsman and he will be under a lot of pressure with the ball moving around so much.

Tendulkar gets his first boundary as he nudges Boult fine on the leg side and is gifted another four off the very next delivery. There is a huge appeal for LBW against Tendulkar, who gets an inside edge, but McCullum attempts to hit the stumps and misses to give away four overthrows. Tendulkar ends the over with a single to keep the strike to move to 13 from 47 balls.

Tendulkar seems to be growing in confidence. He drills a full delivery down the ground back past the bowler to bring up his 2000th boundary in Test cricket.

However, Bracewell has the last laugh as he bowls Tendulkar with the very next delivery. Tendulkar, who made 17 from 50 balls, played all over a full delivery that came in slight but missed and was bowled.

Two wickets in two overs for Bracewell and New Zealand are in control now.

New batsman Suresh Raina has a nervous poke at a wide outgoing delivery. A make or break match for Raina as far as his Test spot is concerned. He clips a short of good length delivery behind square on the leg side for a single to get off the mark.

Play resumes after lunch despite a slight drizzle in the air. India will be looking to survive the first few overs of the session and build their total with two of their most experienced batsmen -- Sehwag and Tendulkar -- out in the middle.

Sehwag gets going with a boundary after lunch as he flicks the second ball of Bracewell's over through the square leg region.

However, he dismissed off the very next ball attempting the same shot. This time he tries to play it through midwicket but Flynn completes a good catch diving full length to his right at short midwicket.

India in trouble now at 67 for three in 22 overs with the Kiwi pacers making most of the overcast conditions and Tendulkar struggling to get started.

Earlier, Pragyan Ojha took his third five-wicket haul as New Zealand were bowled out for 365 in their first innings. The visitors could add only 37 runs to their overnight score of 328 for six before they were bowled out 45 minutes into the morning session.

Southee then delivered with the ball for the Kiwis, claiming the wickets of Gautam Gambhir and Cheteshwar Pujara.

New Zealand introduce spin, getting in off-spinner Jeetan Patel to bowl the 19th over. Tendulkar goes for a big sweep first ball but fails to connect as it hits his pad and goes fine on the leg side for four byes.

Tendulkar is back to his defensive game immediately after, offering the straight bat to pitched up deliveries as Patel starts with a maiden.

Just five minutes to go for lunch as Sehwag shuts shop and plays out the over from Bracewell, not looking to score runs at all.

Tendulkar does the same in the final over of the session as he defends against Jeetan Patel to take India to lunch at 63 for two in 21 overs.

India 1st inns: 59-2 (18 ovs) vs NZ 1st inns: 365

Tendulkar is struggling to get going as was the case in both innings in the previous Test at Hyderabad. He continues to defend against Franklin, leaving the deliveries outside the off-stump while offering the defensive shots to the ones pitched on the stumps.

Sehwag continues to find the boundaries, this time in a streaky fashion. He looks to cut Bracewell but the thick outside edge goes in the gap between the slips and gully.

And now there is another bowling change for the Kiwis. Left-arm seamer James Franklin replaces Boult, who has bowled seven overs in his first spell.

Sehwag goes hard at the first delivery from Franklin but edges it which goes through the gap between the two slips and gully for a four. He then takes a single to the point region, while Franklin's team-mate in the IPL Tendulkar is a big defensive against him to start with.

In the next over, Sehwag punches Bracewell's second ball through the point region for his fifth boundary. Two balls later he smashes a length delivery through the covers for another four and then clips the next ball through midwicket for two to advance to 35.

Sehwag is on 35 from 44 balls, while Tendulkar has struggled to get going on four from 23 balls.

New Zealand persist with Boult, who comes on to bowl his seventh over. Tendulkar flicks the second ball through the midwicket region to get three runs and Sehwag hits the final ball of that over in the same region for a boundary.

New Zealand make their first change in bowling, bringing on medium pacer Doug Bracewell in place of the impressive Southee, who bowled an excellent first spell of two for 11 in six overs.

Tendulkar is beaten off the first ball as he tries to cut it. There is an appeal for LBW against Tendulkar but once again it has struck him high on the pads and he defends the rest of the over.
10:55   Gambhir, Pujara fall cheaply
- Scorecard

India 1st inns: 33-2 (12 ovs) vs NZ 1st inns: 365

Sachin Tendulkar walks out to bat and he has a big task on hand along with his partner Sehwag. The two senior pros will need to rally India after the two early wickets.

Boult continues his spell, his sixth over in the first spell. Boult bowls one across the veteran batsman Tendulkar and follows it up with a bouncer that goes above the keeper for four byes.

There is a huge appeal for LBW in that over but it has struck Tendulkar high on the pads and the umpire rules in his favour. Tendulkar gets off the mark with a flick to the fine leg region.

Southee comes on to bowl his sixth over. The first ball stays low but it is outside the off-stump and Tendulkar leaves it alone and does the same with the next ball. He clips the last ball to the square leg for another single and retain the strike for the next over.

India 1st inns: 27-2 (10 ovs) vs NZ 1st inns: 365

WICKET: Pujara c Boult b Southee 9 (17b, 1x4)

After the initial jitters Sehwag seems to be settling down quite well. He offers a straight bat defense against a swinging delivery from Boult and then ducks under a bouncer. He seems to be intent on playing out the new ball and has cut down his fancy shots at the moment.

Pujara is looking confident after his century in the previous Test at Hyderabad. He offers no shot to the first few balls before flicking a full delivery through the square leg region for his first boundary.

However, he loses his wicket a couple of balls later as he tries to play the hook shot against a bouncer from Southee and is caught on the fine leg fence for nine.

Southee has been sensational with the new ball for New Zealand and his two wickets has given his team the upperhand.
10:34   Gambhir out for 2
- Scorecard

India 1st inns: 23-1 (8 ovs) vs NZ 1st inns: 365

Pujara drives an over-pitched delivery from Boult through the covers and gets three runs as Franklin pulls it just before the ropes.

Boult bowls a short delivery to Sehwag, who somehow keeps it down and then hits the next ball to the gully region for one.

India have another narrow escape as they tried to steal a quick single. Williamson is quick on the ball running in from gully and tries a hit at the stumps but misses as Pujara is well out of his crease.

Southee is getting good shape with the outswinger as he beats Sehwag, who flashes at one outside the off-stump. But Sehwag crashes the next ball through the covers as Jeetan Patel makes a good stop to give just a single.

Another testing over from Southee as the Kiwi pacers make the most of the conditions.
10:24   Gambhir out for 2
- Scorecard

India 1st inns: 18-1 (6 ovs) vs NZ 1st inns: 365

That wicket has not fazed Sehwag at all. He plays a risky on the up drive against Boult through the covers for a boundary and repeats the shot off the next ball for back to back fours.

Sehwag keen not to let the Kiwi pacers gain the upperhand despite the conditions suiting them.

The right-hander then clips it to the midwicket region to get a couple of runs as ten come from the fifth over to take India to 15 for one after five overs.

Wicket-taker Southee continues as Pujara defends the first ball and flicks the next ball to the fine leg region for one.

Sehwag drives it to the covers for one and Pujara does the same as three runs come from that over.

WICKET: Gambhir b Southee 2 (12b)

The pressure finally pays off for New Zealand. Southee bowls it outside the off-stump and moves it away from Gambhir, who prefers to let it go to the wicketkeeper.

The fourth ball, however, is on the stumps and doesn't move that much and Gambhir once again offers no shot but this time it hits the off-stump.

Gambhir is bowled for two.

The in-form Cheteshwar Pujara walks out to bat at number three and he has his task cut out.

A wicket maiden for Southee to give New Zealand a good start.

- Scorecard

India 1st inns: 5-0 (3 ovs) vs NZ 1st inns: 365

Gambhir now gets a lifeline as his edge off Boult is dropped by McCullum at third slip. It was a straightforward chance as Gambhir edged an outgoing delivery but McCullum failed to hold on to leave the bowler and his team-mates disappointed.

He gets to the non-striker's end with a quick single.

New Zealand must be ruing not making most of the chances that came their way early on.

India 1st inns: 4-0 (2 ovs) vs NZ 1st inns: 365

Tim Southee starts with a good delivery first up as Sehwag is struck on the pads and there is a huge appeal for LBW. Replays confirm that Sehwag was struck in line and was very lucky to survive that call with umpire Steve Davies giving him the benefit of doubt maybe due to the height.

He strokes a full delivery through the covers to get two runs as Gambhir is lucky to escape a run out chance at the non-striker's end.

Sehwag then throws his bat at a wide outswinger but is beaten and is lucky not to have edged that one. It happens again with the final ball of that over and this time the Kiwis appeal but the umpire is not interested.

A nervous start for Sehwag and India.

India 1st inns: 2-0 (1 over) vs NZ 1st inns: 365

Pacer Trent Boult to open the bowling for New Zealand and he will get some help from the overcast conditions. The visitors will be looking to make most of the new ball and scalp a few early wickets.

The first delivery from Boult swings a bit in the air and Gambhir defends it back to the bowler while the second also swings a bit as the batsman lets it go.

Gambhir flicks the next ball to the square leg region for a single, while Virender Sehwag also gets a single to get off the mark.

Ojha brought back into the attack and he finishes the Kiwi innings with the wicket of Tim Southee, who is dismissed leg before wicket for 14.

That wicket also gives Ojha his third five-wicket haul in Test cricket as he finished with excellent figures of five for 99 in 28.1 overs.

The New Zealand innings lasted just 45 minutes on the second morning as they lost their last four wickets for 20 runs in the space of 25 deliveries.

NZ 1st inns: 363-9 (89)

WICKET: Jeetan Patel c Gambhir b Yadav 0 (2b)

Jeetan Patel has a wild swing at Umesh Yadav off the first ball he faces, from Umesh Yadav. And he falls the very next delivery as he chops a short ball to the thirdman region where he is caught on the fence by Gautam Gambhir.

That wicket was a gift for India as New Zealand lose their way with quick wickets on Day 2.

Yadav continues to bowl short deliveries as he has done through the NZ innings. Southee seems ready for it as he pulls it through midwicket for a boundary.

A couple of deliveries later, Southee smacks it over the square leg fence for a huge six.

- Scorecard

NZ 1st inns: 353-8 (88)

WICKET: Bracewell run out (Zaheer) 43 (79b, 6x4)

Zaheer continues round the wicket to new batsman Tim Southee, who is also quite handy with the bat.

The Kiwi all-rounder gets off the mark with a boundary as he steers a wide delivery from Zaheer past the point fielder to take his team past the 350-run mark.

New Zealand lose the wicket of Bracewell in the most unfortunate manner. Southee hits a full delivery back to the bowler Zaheer, who fails to stop it fully and it deflects back on to the stumps at the non-striker's end and catches Bracewell out of his crease.

The Kiwi all-rounder walks back disappointed after a fine knock of 43 from 79 balls as the visitors lose two quick wickets in the space of three overs.

The seventh wicket partnership between van Wyk and Bracewell fetched 99 runs for New Zealand as the two batsmen showed great application and also scored runs at a good rate.

Bracewell slaps Yadav down the ground for a boundary to move to 43, his highest score in Test cricket.

While Zaheer has worked hard and bowled exceptionally well, Yadav has struggled with his control and has gone for lot of runs.

- Scorecard

NZ 1st inns: 345-7 (86)

WICKET: Kruger van Wyk c Raina b Khan 71 (100b, 9x4)

Van Wyk has been trying to play some tricks with the Indian pacers especially Zaheer Khan as he gives him the charge quite a few times. And the veteran pacer seems to bringing all his experience into play, bowling from both the sides of the wickets and trying every possible variation.

And Zaheer gets his man finally. Van Wyk, who played a fine innings of 71, tries to steer it to thirdman but gets an edge and once again Suresh Raina takes a sharp catch at second slip.
09:18   India eye early wickets on Day 2
- Scorecard

NZ 1st inns: 341-6 (83)

New Zealand start from where they left off on day one as Bracewell opens the day with a boundary off Umesh Yadav, who completed his over after play was halted early on day one due to bad light.

In the next over, Kruger van Wyk gets three runs as he steers a full ball from Ojha to the vacant thirdman region. In the same over, Bracewell lofts Ojha back over his head for his second boundary of the over as New Zealand show some positive intent right from the start on Day 2.
