World T20: Harbhajan spins India to big win over England

23:16   India crush England by 90 runs

Scorecard

England are dismissed for their lowest score in T20s as they are bowled out for a paltry 80 in 14.4 overs.

A superb comeback for Harbhajan Singh as he took four for 12 in four overs, which included two maiden overs.

A match-winning spell by the Turbanator to spin India to a big win ahead of the all-important Super Eight stage. This was his first match for India after more than a year, having last played international cricket in August last year.

Leg-spinner Piyush Chawla also made most of the English batsmen's weakness against the turning ball to claim two for 13 in four overs.

Irfan Pathan, who also opened the batting for India, rattled England early with the new ball to finish with two for 17 in three overs.

Earlier, Rohit Sharma's brilliant unbeaten 55 had lifted India to 170-4 in their 20 overs.

After Piyush Chawla's twin strikes, Harbhajan gets into the act as he removes Tim Bresnan for 1.

 

Bresnan looking for a slog sweep gets a top edge but straight into the hands of Gautam Gambir at deep square leg.

 

Bhajji in his next over castled Jos Butler for 11. Another quicker one from the off spinner as batsman went for a cut, misread the length a the ball crashed onto the middle stump.

 

Graeme Swann became Bhajji's fourth victim as he decieved him with a straighter one

Piyush Chawla strikes in his first over as he castles Johnny Bairstow.

 

Chawla, who is palying his first match after a long time castled Bairstow with a googly off the final ball off his first over.

 

Spinners are tighting the grip over England batsmen with good line and length.

 

Then in his next over he removed the dangerous Craig Kiewetter who edged it to Virat Kohli for 35. 

 

England were 51-5 after 8.1 overs.

Eion Morgan becomes the thrid English batsmen to make the long walk back to the pavillion for 2.

 

A quicker one from Harbhajan Singh, who is bowling his opening over as Morgan gives himseld a bit of room and goes for cut.

 

But the lefthander misses the ball as the ball crashes onto the stumps.

 

England reeling at 39-3 after 6 overs.

Irfan Pathan strikes again as he now removes Luke Wright for two.

 

Wright, who had smoked a six off the previous ball, was beaten for pace as the ball hit his pads.

 

A loud appeal follows -- umpire Simon Taufel takes a good hard look and gives it in bowlers favour.

 

England were 18-2 after 3 overs.

Irfan Pathan strikes for India in the first over itself as he castles Alex Hales for a duck.

 

Hales went in for a wild slog, missed the ball completly as the ball crashed on to the stumps.

Rohit Sharma smashed a 33-ball 55 to guide India to 170-4.

 

After put into bat first, Indian openers were off to a decent start, but lost Irfan Pathan in the third over.

 

However, Virat Kohli joined hands with Gautam Gambhir to put on 57 runs stand for second wicket.

 

Gambhir continued the good work after Kohli's dismissal. But it was Rohit who turned the heat on England bowlers with his big hitting.

 

Steven Finn was the most successful bowler picking up 2-33, while Swann picked up 1-17.

Gautam Gambhir perished in search of quick runs as he edged to Kieswetter off Steven Finn.

 

Good catch as Kieswetter dived ahead to take the catch to ensure the patchy innings comes to end at 45.

 

India were 119-3 after 16 overs.

Graeme Swann has struck as he removes Virat Kohli for 40.

 

Kohli looking to smash one through midwicket, didn't quite time the ball and hit ti straight to Johnny Bairstow. A much-needed breakthrough for England.

After Irfan Pathan's dismissal Virat Kohli and Gautam Gambhir have steadied the ship somewhat putting on a 50-runs stand for second wicket.

 

Kohli has been the aggressor of the two stroking boundary off the first ball he faced.

 

Gambhir has been steady, biding his time, while Kohli stroked  boundaries so far.

 

India were 80-1 after 10 overs.

Indian openers Gautam Gambhir and Irfan Pathan are off a decent start with Gautam Gambhir stroking two boundries off Jade Dernbach.

 

Pathan meanwhile, smashed a boundary but couldn't continue the good work as he was castled by Finn in his second over.

 

A brilliant delivery from Finn as he misses a straight ball with the ball crashing on to the off stump.

So the news from the middle is a strange one -- Irfan Pathan is out in the middle with a bat in hand along with Gautam Gambhir.

 

Virat Kohli was all padded up so all expected him to open -- but stranger things have happened.

 

Steven Finn will opening the proceedings for England as Gambhir dabs one towards third man for a single.

 

Finn digs one shot as Pathan pulls one for a couple.

 

At the end of first over India 6-0.

England have won the toss and have elected to bowl first under lights against India.

 

Tim Bresnan is back for England in space of Samit Patel, while India have made 4 changes to the side.

Scorecard:

James Franklin (13) entertains during his stay, but Tanvir cuts it short having him caught by Jamshed at deep midwicket. 

Taylor takes Gul to the cleaners though, hitting the first three balls to the fence. But the New Zealand captain is run out in the fourth ball to end NZ's hopes. 

Taylor's 11-ball 26 was inclusive of three boundaries and a six. 

New Zealand manage 164 for nine in their 20 overs as Pakistan seal a comfortable 13-run win. 

Ajmal has figures of four for 30.

Umar Gul all but ends New Zealand's slim hopes by rattling McCullum's (32) stumps. 

Ross Taylor, the New Zealand captain, comes out to join Jacob Oram with his team in deep trouble.

McCullum eases the pressure with successive boundaries in Saeed Ajmal's first over. 

Vettori joins the party with a boundary in Afridi's next over. 

Hafeez returns to bowl in the 14th over and McCullum hits the final ball of the over for a six over long on, the shot helping New Zealand get past the 50-run mark. 

Ajmal strikes in his second over, having Vettori (18) caught by Jamshed at extra cover. Vettori helped McCullum put on 48 runs for the third wicket.

It is a double blow for New Zealand as Williamson (15) is run out in the next over. 

Daniel Vettori comes out to join McCullum, an unusual decision by Taylor one must say.

Scorecard:

A boundary by Williamson helps New Zealand get past the 50-run mark in the seventh over. 

However, two balls later Shahid Afridi provides Pakistan with their maiden breakthrough cleaning up Nicol (33). 

The opening wicket partnership yielded NZ 53 runs. Brendon McCullum comes out to join Williamson.

Williamson hits a boundary off Tanvir and Nicol one off Arafat to ease the pressure to an extent.

Scorecard:

Kane Williamson and Rob Nicol open the batting for New Zealand and it will be Mohammad Hafeez first up for Pakistan. 

Just one run comes off the opening over. Sohail Tanvir to share the new ball. Nicol smashes the second ball for a six. 

Umar Gul bowls the third over and gives away only five runs.

Jamshed's innings comes to an end in the next over when he skies a Vettori delivery to Nathan McCullum at long on. 

Jamshed's 35-ball knock was inclusive of a couple of boundaries snad four huge sixes. 

Umar Akmal eases the pressure a bit with successive boundaries off Mills. 

Pakistan eventually manage 177 for six in their stipulated 20 overs.

Hafeez and Jamshed put together on 76 runs, in just 48 balls, for the second wicket. 

New Zealand don't have to wait long for their third success, Oram having Kamran Akmal (3) caught by Mills on the cover boundary. 

Pakistan 131 for three after 15 overs.

Nasir Jamshed reaches his half century, off just 27 balls, in the 13th over. 

However, New Zealand do get a much needed relief in the next over when James Franklin cleans up Mohammad Hafeez (43).

Mohammad Hafeez and Nasir Jamshed are continuing on an aggressive mode, the latter having hit a huge six over extra cover off Nathan McCullum soon after his arrival. 

McCullum's second over is more expensive than his first, with both the batsmen going the distance.

Pakistan reach 92 for one after 10 overs.

Scorecard:

Pakistan get off to a good start, putting on 47 runs for the opening wicket. 

Tim Southee provides New Zealand their first wicket, catching Imran Nazir (25) off his own bowling. 

Nazir's 16-ball knock was inclusive of five hits to the fence.

Pakistan won the toss and elected to bat first against New Zealand in their group match at Pallekelle on Sunday.

Pakistan have left out four players, Mohammad Sami, Raza Hasan, Abdul Razzaq and Asad Shafiq.

New Zealand play Adam Milne instead of an injured Martin Guptill.
