Ajantha Mendis is back into the attack after just one over from Jeevan Mendis. Nicol cuts the first ball that falls short of the short thirdman fielder for one and McCullum strokes it to long-on for another single.

Nicol then pulls a short ball through midwicket for a boundary as NZ start to take control.

The fifth ball is hit down the ground to long-off for one. McCullum swings the final ball across the line to midwicket to get another couple of runs.
