Dale Steyn took three wickets in the 19th over to guide Hyderabad Sunrisers to a surprise 22-runs win over Pune Warriors.

Defending a small target of 127, the home team bowlers kept a tight check on Pune batsmen and never allowed them to get off to a flier.

But once Thissara Perrera gave the host the opening breakthrough, there was no looking back as they were dismissed Pune for 104.

New ball bowlers Ishant Sharma and Dale Steyn gave little away in the opening spell and then Amit Mishra and Perrera took the game away from the visitors.

Ashish Reddy strikes a crushing blow as he castles Ross Taylor for 19. A slower one from Reddy -- yorker length as Taylor went in too early.

Pune 94-6 after 17 overs. Still require 33 runs from 3 overs.

Ross Taylor and Abhishek Nayar have steadied the ship after Pune Warriors lost wickets in quick intervals.

Nayar has been the aggressive of the two, counter punching Sunrisers with couple of boundaries and running well in between wickets.

But as we speak, Nayar gives a dolly to Ishant Sharma in covers. Fooled by a wrong-one from Mishra, Nayar was looking to smoke this one out of the park.

Pune have lost half their side for 83, still requiring 44 runs from 25 balls.

Amit Mishra strikes once again as he removes opener Manish Pandey for 15.

Yuvraj Singh is the latest one walking back to the pavillion after being out-smarted by Amit Mishra.

Yuvraj looking to give Mishra the charge was done-in by the spin down the leg-side as Parthiv Patel had little trouble in whipping the bails to give Sunrisers a foot in the door.

Pune were 48-3 after the half way stage.

Thissara Perrera strikes again in his second over. This time it's Marlon Samuels, who was caught in the slips by Cameroon White.

Good captaincy by Sangakkara, who had the slip in -- poor shot from Samuels, who tried to chip it over slips for a boundary.

Pune were 42-2 after 8.3 overs.

Thissara Perrera provides the breakthrough as he had Robin Uthappa caught by Parthiv Patel for 24.

Hyderabad Sunrisers bowlers Dale Steyn and Ishant Sharma are bowling immacular line and length to keep Pune Warriors openers in check.

Manish Pandey and Robin Uthappa haven't yet got the leeway to get their team off to a flier. Credit should also be given skipper Kumar Sangakkara, who has set good fields for his bowlers.

At the end of five overs, Warriors were 18-0. Uthappa is on 9, along with Manish Pandey, who is on identical score.

Good bowling from Pune Warriors ensured that Hyderabad Sunrisers finish with 126-6 in the stipulated 20 overs.

Sunrisers innings never got going as they kept losing wickets at regular intervals. Thissara Perrara tried his best to up the ante with a 18-ball 30, which included three boundaries and one huge six.

Pune should be able to wrap this one up, unless Steyn & Co. can pull out a surprise.

Ashok Dinda was the most successful bowler with figures of 2-29 from his 4 overs.

Thissara Perrera is using the long handle to good effect smashing Marlon Samules to all corners of the park.

But Ashok Dinda ensured that Perrara's stay in the middle is a short one as he had the Sri Lankan caught  in the deep by Manish Pandey for quick-fire 30.

Perrara provided the much-needed momentum for Sunrisers as he smashed three boundaries and one huge six in his 18-ball stay.

Sunrisers at the end of 18 overs were 113-5.

Wickets continue to tumble for Sunrisers as Akshat Reddy is the latest one to make his way back to the pavillion after being bowled by Yuvraj Singh.

Reddy looking to give the left-armer charge missed the ball, as the ball crashed on to his leg stump.

Sunrisers are losing their way here by losing wickets at regular intervals. Thissara Perrara walks in and makes his intention pretty clear by slamming two boundaries off Rahul Sharma.

The very next over Cameroon White is the one to make his way back, after he smashed one straight to Mitchell Marsh in deep square leg off Marlon Samuels.

At the end of 15 overs Sunrisers were 87-4.

Kumar Sangakkar and Akshat Reddy have steadied the ship after they lost Parthiv Patel for 19.

Sangakkara has looked in control and Reddy to his credit has given the skipper good company. There is hint of turn for the spinners and Rahul Sharma is utilising the bounce as well.

And as we speak, Rahul Sharma castles Sangakkara for 15. Unchractristic  from the skipper, who chipped down the track, missed the ball as the ball crashed onto middle stump.

Sunrisers were 60-2 at the half way mark.

Ashok Dinda strikes the first blow for Pune Warriors as he castles Parthiv Patel for 19.

Nice seam position from the Indian seamer, who pushed the ball further up as Patel went in for a flick down the leg side, only to have his off stump uprooted.

Former India wicketkeeper's stay in the middle included three boundaries.

Skipper Kumar Sangakkara walked out in the middle and got off the mark with a glorious pull shot.

Sunrisers were 38-1 after 6 overs. Reddy is on 12, while Sangakkara is on 4.

Ashok Dinda into the the attack and Parthiv Patel is quick to slap it through the covers for the second boundary for the Hyderabad Sunrisers.

Dinda compensates it one down the leg side as Patel helps himself with a couple. Another chip through the leg side clears the in-filed for another couple.

Sunrisers 18-0 after three overs. Parthiv Patel is on 10, while Reddy is on 7.

- Scorecard

Marlon Samuels to open the bowling for Pune, while Akshat Reddy will take strike. A half volley to start with, as Reddy helps himself with a single.

There is turn on the pitch -- one can see vicious turn from the West Indian. Early indications are that the pitch will be on the slower and lower side.

Rahul Sharma, and Yuvraj Singh would be looking ahead to bowl on this track as Sunrisers were 4-0 after the first over.

Well on paper Pune looks a strong team, but can't rule out Hyderabad either, who has the firepower in the top half.

Meanwhile, bad news for Delhi fans as Virender Sehwag has been ruled out of the game against Rajasthan Royals on Saturday.

Surprising to see Pune opting to leave out Steven Smith, who was their star performer last season.

Pune Warriors have won the toss and have elected to bowl first, which has been the trend in IPL, against Hyderabad Sunrisers.

Its a strong middle order for Pune with the likes of Marlon Samuels, Ross Taylor and Mitchell Marsh as the foreign players.

Meanwhile for Hyderabad, the foreign players includer skipper Kumar Sangakkara, Dale Steyn, Thissara Perrera and Cameron White.
19:17
Back in the IPL with a new name, Hyderabad will look to start off on a winning note against Pune Warriors.

Sunrisers could well be tough opposition for Warriors as they are led by Kumar Sangakkara.

In the batting department, Sangakkara, Sri Lanka's Thisara Perera and Australia's Cameron White along with India's Parthiv Patel make the team highly competitive.
