South Africa have been hampered by Morkel's injury and they will look to take a few quick wickets on Day 4 to stop India's charge.

He led India's domination with the bat on Day 3, putting on an unbroken stand of 191 runs from 44.1 overs for the third wicket with Kohli, who stroked his way to 77 from 132 balls.
India took charge after tea as they slammed 175 runs in 38 overs at a run rate of 4.61 in the post tea session.

After the MRI and ultrasound conducted on Morne Morkel, it has been revealed that he has a Grade 1 Ankle tear and it will take about seven to eight days to recover. He won't bowl and will bat only if required, says the South Africa national cricket team doctor Mohammed Moosajee.
That also rules out Morkel from the next Test match to be played in Durban from December 26 to 30.

India scored 78 runs in 26 overs for the loss of one wicket in the post lunch session to gain the upperhand.
The injury to Morkel has clearly handicapped South Africa, who were already struggling with Tahir's poor bowling form.
India will look for another good session after tea to strengthen their grip on the match.
TEA - DAY 3India 109-2 (40 overs) & 280 vs SA 244
This is interesting! Hashim Amla takes up the gloves as AB de Villiers comes into bowl an over of medium pacer just before the tea break.
The first ball is short and wide which Pujara hits to sweeper cover for one. The next ball is full and outside the off-stump which Amla collects cleanly and gets a huge roar from the crowd.
The third ball is full as Kohli drives but gets it off the thick outside edge for one.
The fourth ball is short and wide which Pujara cuts through the off-side for a couple.
The fifth ball is wider and the umpire has no problems in calling it a wide.
He then gets it to jag back as Pujara is forced to defend.
Apparently, this is the first time Amla has kept wickets in a first class game. The last ball is punched down to mid-off to end the over.
At tea on Day 3, India reach 109 for two in 40 overs, to stretch their lead to 145 runs.

India took the upperhand in the morning session courtesy of their seamers as they bowled out South Africa for 244 for a first innings lead of 36 runs.
Vijay and Pujara showed a lot of patience and courage to weather the early storm as Philander and Steyn bowled in the right areas and went past the edge of the bat on countless occasions.
Overall, 62 runs were scored in the morning session in 23.3 overs for the lost of five wickets.

Steyn to bowl the final over the morning session. Pujara flicks the second ball to fine leg region for two runs where Morkel has taken a tumble and is down in pain. He is clutching his ankle and seems to be in some pain.
Morkel seems to have twisted his ankle and is being helped off the field by the support staff and team mates. That will be a big blow for South Africa and put a lot of pressure on the rest of their bowlers.
Pujara plays out the rest of the over as India go into lunch on Day 3 at 31 for one in 14 overs, having stretched their overlead to 67 runs.
Vijay is looking good on 12 from 42 balls, while Pujara is on four from 21 balls.

Even though Vijay is keen on defending, he is not letting go of any opportunity to score. A full delivery on the leg stump is flicked through midwicket for a boundary by the right-hander to take his score to 12.

Morne Morkel comes into the attack in place of Steyn, who bowled five overs for seven runs. He was South Africa's most threatening bowler in the first innings and gave the Indians a lot of problem with his extra bounce.
And he continues to torment the Indians as Vijay has no answers to the extra bounce as he looks to play back and defend.
The last ball also has a lot of carry as Vijay let is go and it thuds into the gloves of the keeper.

Pujara is beaten as Philander gets one to shape away before the right-hander clips the next through the leg side for two runs.
Philander then gets the edge but it falls short of Kallis at second slip, who is looking for his 200th catch in Test cricket.
India are 25 for one in 10 overs with an overall lead of 61.

Vijay doing well again. He looks in no hurry at all and is content to bide his time out in the middle.
India will look to bat out another 15 minutes and get to lunch without any more wickets.

However, he is forced to play at the next one which is full and on the stumps and moves away as Kallis takes a good catch at second slip.

New batsman Cheteshwar Pujara is beaten off the second delivery as Philander bowls another perfect outswinger.

Dhawan keeps the scoreboard moving as he taps it to the covers for a single against Steyn.
Vijay plays one with soft hands and steers it through point for a couple. He then lets the next ball go through forcing Steyn to bowl more closer which he does and is defended by the Indian opener.

A big test for the two Indian openers as the ball moves considerably both ways.

Dhawan taps it on the off-side and sets off for a quick single. Du Plessis at point sprints in and attempts to throw the stumps at the non-striker's end but ends up giving away five overthrows.

India's openers face a huge task on a pitch having a lot of uneven bounce against the fastest bowling attack in the world.
Steyn to bowl the first over and he will be fired up after getting a few bouncers bowled at him by Zaheer.
The first ball is outside the off-stump as Dhawan lets it go, while defending the next on the leg side and does the same with the next.
He flicks the fourth ball to fine leg region for a single to get India off the mark.
Murali Vijay defends the last two balls of that over.

South Africa are bowled out for 244, to give India a slender first innings lead of 36 runs. SA added 31 runs for the loss of four wickets on the third day.
What a superb performance by Zaheer in his comeback Test, claiming four for 88 in 26.3 overs in his match for nearly a year.
Ishant also dished out an magnificent performance with the ball, taking four for 79 in 25 overs, while Mohammed Shami bagged two for 48 in 18 overs.

Tahir gets a short delivery directed at his body which he sways out of the way. He is beaten off the last two deliveries as he flirts outside the off-stump.

Zaheer gets another one, the struggling du Plessis is caught behind for 20 from 76 balls. He was forced to dab his bat at one which was closer to the off-stump and moved away as Dhoni gobbled up another easy edge.

Du Plessis continues to play with caution as he taps Ishant on the off-side and takes a single.
The uneven bounce does the trick for Ishant as Steyn (10) is forced to fend one which kicked off after pitching on length and he steered it straight to Rohit at third slip, who managed to hold on this time.
That is the fourth wicket for Ishant, who has looked very sharp this morning.
Morne Morkel gets a beauty first up, short and up on the face as he tries to fend but it goes past the edge. He is beaten off the next ball as he looks to drive.
He connects the last ball with the pull but has not timed it that well for two runs to deep square leg to get off the mark.

Steyn drives at a wide delivery from Zaheer but the thick outside edge goes away from a diving Rahane at point who half stops it and then gives a good chase to give away just two runs.
The third delivery is full and Steyn drives it down the ground past mid-off for a boundary.
He then throws his at the next delivery but gets a thick outside edge which flies over the slips for another four. The deficit is now 44.
The last ball again comes off the edge but falls short of Rahane at point.

Du Plessis is down on the ground. Ishant gets one to come in and bounce a bit more off good length hitting du Plessis on the box and he is down in some pain.
Du Plessis not offering any stroke to the deliveries coming in trusting the bounce which is taking it over the stumps.
A good maiden over for du Plessis, who looks relieved at playing out that over which started with that painful blow.
Good bowling by the two Indian pacers to keep South Africa at bay.

Zaheer strikes with the key wicket of Philander, who is caught at first slip by Ashwin for 59.
Zaheer got one to pitch perfectly, on the stumps and moving away which Philander could only edge to be snapped up by Ashwin at first slip. A big relief for the Indians to see a catch being finally taken in the slips.
Philander played a vital innings of 59, hitting seven fours in 86 balls, putting on 80 runs for the seventh wicket to rally South Africa.
Zaheer greets Dale Steyn with two quick bouncers, who does well to sway out of the way. Chin music time!
The third ball stays low going past the outside edge and bouncing again before reaching to Dhoni, who blocks it.
A wicket maiden for Zaheer to give India the much needed lift at start of Day 3.

Ishant Sharma to start off proceedings on Day 3. The first ball is a loosener, short and wide, and Philander hits it through the covers for a boundary to bring up his fifty in some style, from 77 balls.
Two balls later he again goes back and plays another cracking drive through the covers for another boundary.
Dhoni had a deep point in place but Philander hit it perfectly in the gap through the covers. He inside edges the fourth ball for a single to midwicket.
Faf du Plessis gets a single from the last ball despite a bit of hesitation.
A perfect start for SA as they get 10 runs from the first over of the day, including two boundaries.

Philander's wicket will be the key as he threatens to score a few runs and take South Africa closer to the Indian total. He stroked a fluent 48 putting on 66 runs for Faf du Plessis to rally South Africa after the middle order batsmen failed to fire.
Ishant Sharma bowled a fantastic spell on Day 2 and his dismissal of Hashim Amla triggered a middle order collapse to give India the slight edge.
