Petersen flicks the first ball behind square on the leg side for a four and then takes one to mid-on.

Smith takes a step down the track before he flicks it to midwicket for one from the final delivery of the day.

At stumps on Day, SA are 82 for no loss in 20 overs scoring at more than four runs per over.

Petersen played positively to hit 46 from 61 balls with the help of seven fours, while Smith made 35 from 59 balls.

A puff of dust and bit of turn every time Jadeja gets it outside the off-stump to Smith.

A good start by the left-arm spinner giving Smith lots to think about.

The third ball is a quick yorker which reverse swings into Rahane and it strikes him on the pads. Steyn has a huge appeal for LBW but umpire Steyn turns it down with the ball clearly looking to be heading down the leg side.

The fourth ball is a full toss but Rahane gently drives it to mid-on.

Steyn looking to keep the ball away from Rahane but it is sprayed too much outside the off-stump and is called a wide.

The last ball is short and wide which Rahane tries to cut to thirdman but misses.

Shami is beaten off the next ball as Duminy slants it across him before he slaps the next to sweeper cover for a single to get off the mark.

Rahane sweeps the last ball to fine leg for a single to retain strike.

Zaheer threw his bat at a wide ball but get a thick outside edge as wicketkeeper AB de Villiers plucked it out of mid air with one hand, leaping high to his right. He barely had time to react to it!

Steyn completes his five-wicket haul, with all his wickets coming on the second day.

Ishant Sharma tries to flick Steyn but it hits his pads before going fine for a boundary. The next ball is a half volley which Ishant drives through the covers for a four to get off the mark.

Steyn gets revenge from the next delivery as Ishant edges back on the length delivery to be caught behind for four.

Rahane, on 49, has a long chat with lastman Mohammed Shami, who ducks under the last ball of that over.

Jadeja (0) is dismissed off the next delivery as he edges one and Kallis at first slip pouches his 200th catch in Test cricket. An important milestone for the all-rounder in his final Test match.

India slip yet again with wickets in successive overs to be reduced to 321 for seven, in the 108th over.

Steyn continues his wicket ways as he claims the wicket of India captain Dhoni for 24. The right-hander went after a wide full delivery from Steyn but managed only an edge which was taken by his opposite number Smith at first slip, to give Steyn his fourth wicket.

Dhoni and Rahane put on 55 runs for the sixth wicket at nearly four runs per over to keep the scoreboard moving at a good rate after tea.

New batsman Ravindra Jadeja is beaten off the first ball as Steyn slants it across him before there is a stifled appeal for LBW off the next ball but the impact is high on the pads.

South Africa have not learnt from their earlier mistake. Again the huge gap between the first and second slip proves crucial as Pujara's edge goes right through that gap for a boundary.

And now Graeme Smith comes closer to block that big gap, but the damage has already been done.

Both Vijay and Pujara have enjoyed early reprieves because of poor tactics from South Africa in terms of their fielding position.

Murali Vijay showed great application to score 91, while Cheteshwar Pujara continued his good run to score a steady 58 as the duo put India on top after Shikhar Dhawan's early dismissal.

Morne Morkel to bowl the first over of the day and facing him will be Pujara, who offers no shot to the first ball.

Two more leaves before Pujara drives it through the covers for a boundary for the first runs of the day.

The fifth ball is again left alone before Pujara defends the last all confidently off the backfoot.

We have some good news from Kingsmead. The umpires have confirmed that play on the second day will begin at 1240 pm local time (1610 IST) after the long rain delay.

A minimum of 75 overs will have to be bowled on Day 2 with the option of extending play till 1800 local time (2130 IST).

With the rain having stopped sometime back, former South Africa fast bowler Shaun Pollock is hopeful that play could start by 1230 hours local time (1600 IST).

"Maybe play at 12-30pm local time! Holding Thumbs!!" he wrote on Twitter.

The umpires have decided that lunch will be taken at 1130 local time (1500 IST) which means the morning session has been washed out.

It seems the rain is getting heavier in Durban, confirms BCCI on Twitter.

"14:35 IST - Still no play at Kingsmead and the stubborn weather is yet to show signs of improvement. Rain has become heavier."

It continues to rain at the Wanderers and the covers are still in place. Persistent rain since morning has raised possibility of a washout on Day 2.

According to Mohandas Menon on Twitter: "The last occasion the entire day's play was washed out at Kingsmead, Durban: the 4th day - on 29 December 2000 (SA v SL - drawn)."

Just as the groundstaff were getting to ready to take off the covers, it has started to drizzle again at Kingsmead.

For now, the players are sitting in the comforts of their dressing room, waiting for the rain to stop.

Rain has delayed start of Day 2 of the second Test between India and South Africa in Durban, on Friday.

Play was supposed to start at 1300 hours IST but a spell of rain early morning forced the start to be delayed at Kingsmead.

Already, a lot of time was on the opening day because of bad light with the umpires calling off play early.

India had made 181 for one in 61 overs with Murali Vijay on 91 and Cheteshwar Pujara on 58 after electing to bat.
