Ravindra Jadeja ends Joe Root's resistance by rattling his timber in what is his fifth over.

The debutant's 36 took him 50 balls and was inclusive of three hits to the fence.

Three balls later Jadeja has Chris Woakes (0) out leg before.

Craig Kieswetter comes out to join Root with the visitors in real trouble.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar will bowl out here. He ends his spell with a maiden, finishing with figures that make for an impressive read (10-2-29-3).

Yuvraj Singh replaces Jadeja (3-0-4-0) in the attack in the 20th over and gives away just a single.

The visitors reach the 100-run mark in the 25th over, courtesy a Kieswetter single.

However, Kieswetter (18) is soon dismissed, Ashwin having him caught by Raina at midwicket.

The stumper's 38-ball knock was inclusive of three fours and he helped Root put on 37 runs for the fifth wicket.

Ravindra Jadeja comes in to replace an expensive Ishant Sharma (2-0-17-0) in the 14t over and gives away just a single, with Pietersen witnessing the ball miss the stumps by a whisker.

Dhoni persists with Kumar, giving him his eighth over in succession. And the young bowler responds to his captain's faith by cleaning up Pietersen (42).

KP's 44-ball innings was inclusive of seven hits to the fence and his untimely dismissal leaves the visitors in a lurch.

Their misery is compounded when Kumar has Eoin Morgan (0) caught behind two balls later.

England 73 for four after 15 overs.

India was 44 for two after 10 overs, and England 58 for one.

However, Dhoni's decision to give Bhuvneshwar Kumar a sixth over works for the home side, with the bowler getting Cook (17) out leg before of the first ball.

The England captain's 27-ball knock was inclusive of three boundaries and he helped Pietersen put up 54 runs for the second wicket.

Debutant Joe Root comes out to join KP at the crease. He hits the fourth ball he faces to the fence.

England 62 for two after 11 overs.

Captain Alastair Cook helps England recover from the early blemish with a few exquisite boundaries, two of them in Shami's second over.

Kevin Pietersen joins the party soon, first with a boundary of Bhuvneshwar Kumar. and then three hits to the fence in Shami's fourth over.

Ishant Sharma replaces Shami (4-1-24-1) in the attack in the 10th over and a boundary towards extra cover of his second ball, by Pietersen, helps the visitors get past the 50-run mark.

Another, on the on side, two balls later helps raise the 50-run partnership for the second wicket.

England 58 for one after 10 overs.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar opens the bowling and gives away three runs.

Shami Ahmed strikes with his second ball, having Ian Bell (1) caught behind. A good breakthrough for India this.

England fove for one after two overs.

15:50 Kochi ODI Live: Dhoni, Jadeja help India post 285-6

Scorecard:

Finn goes for 15 in his final over to finish with figures of two for 51.

Dernbach has the Indian captain caught by Joe Root at sweeper cover in the final over, which also sees Jadeja get to his sixth ODI fifty. The over costs England 20 runs, Dernbach finsihing with figures of two for 73 off eight overs.

India eventually manage 285 for five in their stipulated 50 overs.

MS Dhoni (72) and Ravindra Jadeja (61 not out) put on 96 runs for the sixth wicket as runs were piled on in the last seven overs, the home team managing 77 in the period.

Scorecard:

James Tredwell ends his spell with figures of one for 48. Another good show by him.

Woakes, who gave away 12 in his seventh over, is hit for a six over long on and two fours by Jadeja in his eighth, that costs England another 14. So 26 runs in two overs from Woakes. That's poor bowling.

Dhoni hits Dernbach for a huge six over long off to get into the 40s and also bring up the 50-run partnership for the sixth wicket.

Dhoni reaches his 48th ODI fifty with a boundary off Finn and celebrates with another. Well played captain.

India 240 for five after 47 overs.

Scorecard:

India did miserably in the batting Powerplay, managing to add just 22 runs and losing Raina's wicket in the process.

Ravindra Jadeja has come out to join his captain. Tredwell replaces Finn (8-1-26-2) in the attack in the 42nd over and Dhoni hits his fifth ball to the fence, the first boundary scored in almost 30 minutes.

Woakes replaces Dernbach (7-0-40-1) at the other end and Dhoni smashes the first ball over deep midwicket for a six. Jadeja hits the fifth ball to the fence to help the home team get past the 200-run mark.

India 202 for five after 43 overs.

Samit Patel has finished his spell with figures of none for 43.

The batting powerplay is taken soon after drinks. And Steven Finn is back into the attack.

A boundary of his second ball to backward point helps Raina reach a well-deserved half century, his 26th.

It's Dernbach from the other end. Dhoni smashes the third ball straight past the bowler for a boundary. A single by Raina in the fourth ball of Finn's next over helps raise the 50-run partnership for the fifth wicket.

However, Finn strikes in his third over rattling Raina's (55) stumps. Raina's 78-ball knock was inclusive of two boundaries and an equal number of sixes.

MS Dhoni, the captain, comes out to join Raina at the crease. The latter eases the pressure with a six off Tredwell.

The two English spinners had done a decent job in restrict the two Indian batsman.

However, Woakes strikes with his second ball, having Kohli (37) caught by Bell at sweeper cover.

Kohli's 54-ball knock was inclusive of a boundary and a six and he was uncharacteristically ineffective during his stay at the crease.

The bowling change has worked for England.

Kohli has been at the crease for some time now but struggled, particularly against Samit Patel.
