Cricket updates! India off to a sedate start in Port of Spain

Shikhar Dhawan and Rohit Sharma open the batting for India and it is Shaminda Eranga to start the proceedings for Sri Lanka. He gives away two runs. 

Suranga Lakmal to bowl with the second new ball. He gives away only three as well. In the third ball of Eranga's second over, Dhawan gets the first boundary of the Indian innings at deep backward square leg. 

India 12 without loss after four overs.

Sri Lanka manage 36 runs in the batting powerplay but more importantly, have lost three wickets, two of them well set batsmen. 

Ashwin ends his spell with respectable figures of two for 42. Jadeja has Dinesh Chandimal (5) caught by Ashwin at deep backward square leg.

Ishant has captain Angelo Mathews (10) caught by Vinay Kumar at third man. Jadeja had Herath (5) stumped and Malinga (0) caught by Bhuvneshwar in the 47th over. 

And when Jadeja has Lakmal (1) stumped for his fourth wicket it marks the end of the Sri Lankan innings.

Sri Lanka manage a paltry 201, collapsing from 171 for two, and failing to play even their full quota of overs.

Sangakkara is dismissed in the final over of batting powerplay, Ashwin having him caught by Vinay Kumar at mid on. 

Sanga's 100-ball 71 was inclusive of six boundaries and a six and he helped his team get through a rough period early on. Kusal Perera (2) doesn't last long, Ashwin having him stumped four balls later.

Sri Lanka go into the batting powerplay well-placed at 141 for two. Can Sanga and Lahiru get the best out of these five overs?

They start well, Sanga smashing the first two ball off Ishant to the fence to help raise the 100-run partnership for the third wicket. Ashwin bowls the second over and Sanga sweeps him over square leg to the fence even as six runs come off the over.

Sanga is even harsh is Ishant's second over, smashing successive boundaries and a six in the first three balls. The bowler has some consolation in the fifth ball, as Thirimanne (46) is out caught by Bhuvneshwar at mid off. 

Thirimanne's 72-ball knock was inclusive of four boundaries and he helped Sanga add 122 runs for the third wicket.

Sangakkara and Thirimanne are putting together a steady partnership here. A boundary by the latter, off Raina, ensures it surpasses the 50-run mark. The shot also helps Sri Lanka get to the the three-figure- mark, in the 28th over. 

Former captain Sangakkara has meanwhile, completed his 77th ODI fifty, his 11th in a tournament final.

Ishant is unlucky as Ashwin puts down Thirimanne (on 3) at first slip. 

Sri Lanka make slow progress having lost both their openers. 

When Sangakkara hits Raina to the fence in the 22nd over it marks the first boundary in over an hour. 

R Ashwin replaces Kohli (3-0-17-0) in the attack in the 23rd over. He gives away just two runs first up.

Kumar Sangakara comes out to join Mahela, who by the way is playing his 400th ODI today. So Sri Lanka's most experienced player is at the crease now. 

Ishant Sharma is the first bowling change, replacing Bhuvneswhar (5-3-14-1) in the attack in the 11th over. Sangakkara welcomes him with a boundary.

Bhuvneshwar replaces Vinay Kumar (5-1-9-0) at the other end and strikes in the first ball off his seventh over, having Jayawardene (22) caught by Ashwin at first slip.

India get a much needed breakthrough in the final ball of the seventh over, Bhuvneshwar Kumar having Tharanga (16) caught behind.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar to open the bowling for India and it will be Mahela Jayawardene and Upul Tharanga to open the batting for Sri Lanka. 

Tharanga hits the second ball to the fence as five runs come off the over. R Vinay Kumar to bowl with the second new ball. It's a maiden. 

Sri Lanka 15 without loss after three overs.

India won the toss and invited Sri Lanka to bat first in the tri-series final at the Queens park Oval in Port of Spain. 

"It's a better wicket than others," reasoned captain MS Dhoni, back in the squad after missing out the last two matches. 

His opposite number, Angelo Mathews, didn't seem too perturned with the toss loss.
