CT Updates: India thrash Pakistan by eight wickets at Edgbaston

Dinesh Karthik (10 not out) joins Virat Kohli (22 not out) at the crease. The duo, with their 24-run partnership, ensure India reaches home with 2.5 overs to spare. 

India wins by eight wickets to finish on top of Group B with six points.

Dhawan helps himself to a couple of boundaries in Riaz's second over. However, the bowler has the last laugh, having Dhawan (48) caught by Nasir Jamshed at third man.

Hafeez completes his over before Wahab Riaz replaces Ajmal (2-0-12-1) in the attack. He gives away four runs.

Ajmal strikes in his second over, having Rohit (18) caught by Misbah at midwicket.

Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan open the batting for India and it will be Mohammad Irfan first up for Pakistan. He gives away four runs.

R Ashwin ends with impressive figures of two for 35. Batting powerplay taken in the 36th over. Ishant to bowl. Amin welcomes him with a boundary even as eight runs come off the over.

Ishant strikes in his next over though, having Ajmal (5) caught by Rohit Sharma. Junaid Khan is run out in the next ball.

Shoaib Malik has come out to replace his captain and Kohli replaces Ashwin (7-0-33-1) in the attack.

Ishant is brought back in the 30th over and he strikes in his second over, having Asad Shafiq (41) caught behind, albeit with the help of DRS. 

Umar Amin joins Malik at the crease.

Virat Kohli bowls the second over after resumption and gives away just four runs. However, seven runs come from Ashwin's fifth over. 

Kohli is taken off after one over and Ravindra Jadeja is handed the ball. He gives away three runs. A single by Misbah off Ashwin helps Pakistan reach the 100-run mark, in the 26th over. 

Successive boundaries off Jadeja by Shafiq helps raise the 50-run partnership for the fourth wicket. But the bowler hits back by cleaning up Misbah (22). It's Jadeja's eighth wicket in this competition.

This will now be a 40-over game, with five bowlers bowling a maximum of eight overs. 

The lunch interval has been reduced to 20 minutes. 

R Ashwin starts the proceedings. Misbah gets a boundary off the third ball.

Spin is introduced in the 14th over, R Ashwin replacing Ishant (3-0-19-0) in the attack. He strikes in his second over, having Kamran Akmal (21) caught by Virat Kohli at leg slip. 

This brings captain Misbah-ul Haq to the crease. And it is Umesh Yadav back to bowl, replacing Kumar (8-2-19-2) in the 17th over.

Plays starts and Kumar strikes first ball, a brilliant catch by Dhoni ends Hafeez's (27) stay at the crease. Hafeez's 31-ball knock was inclusive of five boundaries and he helped Akmal add 46 runs for the second wicket.

Asad Shafiq comes out to bat. 

Pakistan 51 for two after 13 overs.

A single by Hafeez off the last ball of the 12tyh over, by Ishant, helps Pakistan get to the 50-run mark. 

However, heavy rains have forced the umpires to ask for the covers to come on.

Kamran Akmal and Mohammad Hafeez are combining well, even if it has been a rather slow start for Pakistan. 

Kumar's fourth over is an expensive one, with both the batsmen helping themselves to boundaries. Ishant's fourth over also sees both batsmen help themselves to boundaries.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar gives India the breakthrough in his second over, having Jamshed (2) caught by Raina at second slip. 

Jamshed survived a review but he didn't survive Kumar. Mohammad Hafeez joins Akmal at the crease.

Kamran Akmal and Nasir Jamshed open the batting for Pakistan and it will be Bhuvneshwar Kumar first up for India. Two runs off the first over.

Umesh Yadav to share the new ball. He appeals for leg before first ball and the umpire raises his finger. However, Nasir Jamshed gets the decision reviewed and gets it in his favour.

India wins the toss and invites Pakistan to bat first in their inconsequential ICC Champions Trophy Group B match at Edgbaston. 

India and South Africa are already through to the last four from the group.

Samuel continues his aggression in Peterson's fourth over, hitting a six over long-on and following it up with successive boundaries. 

Steyn bowls a good follow-up over, giving away just two runs. A single off Tsotsobe helps Windies get to the 150-run mark, in the 23rd over. A boundary by Pollard helps raise the 50-run partnership for the fifth wicket.

However, Steyn provides a crucial breakthrough in the next over by rattling Samuels' (48) stumps. 

Samuels' 38-ball innings was inclusive of six boundaries and two sixes and he put on 58 runs (off just 33 balls) for the fifth wicket with Pollard.

West Indies 172 for five after 24 overs.
