IPL updates: Delhi thrash Kolkata by 7 wkts

Yusuf Pathan introduced as late as the 18th over as Ben Rohrer plays it towards backward of point for three runs. 

Warner then pull one for a single as Delhi inch closer. 

A short ball from Yusuf as Rohrer has plenty of time to rock back and slap it towards deep midwicket for a maximum. 

Rohrer wraps up a convincing win for Delhi with a boundary towards fine-leg.

Brett Lee into the attack and Warner welcomes him with a maximum. Short and wide, Warner slams it over long off for the maximum. 

A short delivery towards Warner body but the lefthander plays it well for a single. 

Lee tries to bounce Chand, but the Delhi opener goes back and pull it -- ball goes towards the longer part of the ground, where Balaji takes an easy catch at the edge of the boundary. 

Delhi were 126-3 after 17 overs, still requiring 11 from 18 balls.

David Warner's consistent run continues as he slams yet another half-century to take Delhi closer to the target. 

Balaji, who is brought back for his final over is welcomed by a boundary off the first ball by Warner.

A flick gives Warner second boundary off the over thereby bringing his half-century.

Chand at the other gives Balaji the charge and mis-hits one high in the air -- but Sumit Narwal makes a mess of it by dropping a simple chance at third man. 

Chand then guides one towards third man for a single. A couple to round off the over as Delhi were 114-2 after 16 overs.

Delhi need 23 runs from 24 balls. Chand is on 36, while Warner is on 54.

Rajat Bhatia continues -- the first one is a full length delivery from KKR medium pacer as Chand defends it on the leg side. 

Next up is a slower one from Bhatia as Chand waits for it and pulls it over midwicket for a boundary. 

A couple of runs towards backward square leg keeps Delhi well in the sight of victory. 

A drive towards long on gives Chand a single. 

Warner then lofts it over bowlers head for a couple. Warner then slams a huge six to keep Delhi in the hunt.

At the end of 13 overs Delhi were 85-2. The hosts still require 52 runs from 42 balls.

Warner is on 40, while Chand is on 22.

A quick leg-spinner from Narine as Chand is clueless facing the Trinidadian. 

Narine follows it with an off-spinner. Chand is clearly struggling as Delhi were 50-2 after 10 overs.

Delhi is rocked early here as skipper Mahela Jayawardene departs now after edging one to Kallis in the slips for 5. Balaji is all pumped up.


Time to rebuild now as David Warner comes in the middle to join Unmukt Chand. 

Warner doesn't take much time to get into the groove as he creams one through the covers for a boundary to get off the mark. 

Delhi at the end of 5 overs were 32-2.

Jacques Kallis into the attack now replacing Balaji. First up Sehwag caresses it through point for a boundary. 

Next up Kallis goes a bit wide as Sehwag slashes -- no run. 

Kallis has the last laugh as he has Sehwag walking back to the pavillion after he edged one to Yusuf Pathan in the first slip for 17.

Laxmipathy Balaji to start off the second over after Brett Lee gave just hree runs from his first over.


First up a back of a length delivery from Balaji as Virender Sehwag steers one towards third man for a single.

Balaji to Jayawardene as the ball hits skippers bat -- a loud appeal from the bowler -- umpire unmoved. 

Jayawardene walks down the track looks to chip it but gets a top edge -- goes high in the air but lands safely in short fine-leg -- a couple nonetheless.

Balaji fuller this time as Mahela clips off the pads for a single.


Balaji tries to bounce Sehwag but no pace as Viru is more than happy to pull it for a boundary. 

Delhi were 12-0 after 2 overs.

Ashish Nehra for the final over the KKR innings as the first ball is slapped for a single through the off-side for a single.

Lee, who has just come in then pulls one towards sqaure leg for a maximum -- a much needed one. These last 5 overs have been good one for the visitors.


A full delivery outside off stump mean no run. 


Nehra bowls a full delivery, but Lee smashes it for a maximum -- second six off over.

Lee slaps the final bowl straight past the bowler for a couple as Kolkata finish with 136-7.

Umesh Yadav to bowl the 19th and his final over as Narwal gives himself a bit of room and smashes it over point for a boundary, 

Narwal is playing a cameo here four boundaries he has hit so far in 14 balls he has faced.

Umesh has the last laugh as he had Narwal caught at long-on by Unmukt Chand.


Umesh to Bhatia -- a good slower one from the bowler. Umesh tries to be smart bowling another slower one, but Bhatia stays ground  to smash it besides point for another boundary. 

At the end of 19 overs KKR were 120-1. Bhatia is on 25, while Lee is on one.

Nehra returns for his third over. The left-armer starts off with a wide down the leg side. 

Next up a full delivery from Nehra, Das times it well but straight to the fielder. 

Nehra finally has his man as he had Das edging one to wicketkeeper Kedar Jhadav for 18.

Kolkata innings never looked going as they lost wickets at regular intervals. 

Sumit Narwal joins Bhatia and gets going with a top-edge over the bowlers head for a boundary.

At the end of  16 overs KKR were 91-6. Bhatia is on 15, Narwal is on 6.

Irfan Pathan back for his final over -- the junior Pathan has bowled 14 dot balls. 

First up is a ball that keeps a bit low -- looked like a slower delivery as well -- no run.

Rajat Bhatia dabs one and takes off -- Ben Rohrer dives in trying to hit the stump, but fails. Replays show a direct hit would have had Debrata Das walking back. 

Pathan follows it with a wide delivery. 

Das takes a single with a nicely placed shot through the covers. 

A dot to end Pathan's spell which has impressive readings. 

At the end of 13 overs KKR were 65-5. Das is on 9, while Bhatia is on 6.

Irfan Pathan back for his third over as Debrata Das takes a single with a tap towards leg side. 

Kallis needs to come good for KKR. But as we speak Kallis departs courtesy of another screamer from Delhi fielder. 

Kallis goes after a wider delivery from  Irfan Pathan -- gets a toe end of the bat but Ben Rohrer plucks one out of thin air to leave KKR reeling at 50-5.

Shahbaz Nadeem comes into the attack now. Eoin Morgan has joined Jacques Kallis in the middle.

Morgan gets off the mark with a single towards square-leg. Kallis taps one for a single to keep the strike rotating. 

Morgan  then shows the class as he reverse sweep the left-arm spinner for  a boundary towards point. 


But Nadeem has the last laugh as he had Morgan walking back to the pavillion for just 10 runs to his name -- courtesy of a brilliant catch by Umesh Yadav at square leg. 

Kolkata were 49-4 now after 8 overs.

Morne Morkel runs in now as Yusuf Pathan takes a wild swing -- no run. 

Next up Yusuf pulls one for  a couple over the in-field. 

Morkel decides to bowl a fuller length but pays the price as Yusuf smashes it into the crowd -- first six of the match. 

Yusuf tries to repeat the stroke but this time only gets a top-edge -- goes very high in the air as younger brother Irfan takes good catch over his head. 

At the end of 7 overs KKR were 42-3.

Umesh Yadav comes into the attack and he starts off with a wide one.

Next one is a peach from Umesh -- gets a good shape outside offstump -- no run. 

Umesh then produces another peach to castle Bisla. Another out-swinger from the bowler as Bisla looks to hit his way out of trouble only to leave his offstump shattered. 

Two runs from the over as KKR were 17-2.

Yusuf Pathan promoted up the order. High time that the elder Pathan performs in the IPL as the first delivery is hoicked high in the air towards midwicket for a couple. 

Ashish Nehra drifts on to Pathan's pads as the Baroda batsman steers it for a boundary. 

Pathan makes it 2 in 2 as he slaps one straight past the bowler for consecutive boundaries. 

Nehra comes back strongly to bowl three dot deliveries as KKR were 15-1 after 2 overs.

Gautam Gambhir and Manvinder Bisla walk out in the middle, while Irfan Pathan will open the proceedings for Delhi. 

Gambhir has won 8 out 10 tosses so far in IPL.


First up is a short of a length delivery from Pathan and Bisla is quite happy to pull it for a boundary behind square leg. 


Delhi strikes off the second ball of the Pathan over, courtesy of a suicidal run from KKR openers. 

Pathan's delivery clips Bisla's pads and the batsmen take off for a non-existent single. Pathan runs across and throws down the stumps at the striker's end -- Gambhir is short by a caouple of inches. 

KKR were 5-1 after 1 over.

Welcome to the second match of the day between Kolkata Knight Riders and Delhi Daredevils here in Raipur. 

It's a must-win game for both the teams.


The news from the middle is KKR have won the toss and have elected to bat first on a good batting surface. 


KKR have made couple of changes to their side bringing in Sumit Narwal for Shami Ahmed, while Brett Lee replaces Brendon McCullum.

Delhi meanwhile are going in with an unchanged side.

Vihari's 23-ball innings was inclusive of two boundaries and his third wicket partnership with Dhawan is worth 74 runs (off 56 balls).

But Hyderabad win by seven wickets with 12 balls to spare.

It is Hyderabad's fourth straight win at home. They move up to fourth in the table.

Hanuman Vihari replaces his captain at the crease. Ojha bowls a good second over, giving away just three runs and the home team reach 56 for two at the first strategic time out (after nine overs). 

Rohit Sharma replaces Harbhajan (3-0-22-1) in the attack in the 10th over. He gives away just five runs. Ojha bowls a good third over as well, conceding only three runs. 

Dhawan though eases the pressure with a boundary past point off Smith. It's an expensive over from the West Indies player, 15 runs coming off it, with Vihari also finding his way to the fence and Dhawan getting a second.

Hyderabad 79 for two after 12 overs.

Harbhajan Singh replaces Dhawal (1-0-10-0) in the attack in the fourth over. He concedes just a single. 

Lasith Malinga replaces Johnson (2-0-9-1) in the attack in the fifth over and Sangakkara welcomes his compatriot with a boundary towards midwicket.

The home captain hits successive boundaries through covers in the first two balls of Harbhajan's second over.

Pragyan Ojha into the attack in the seventh over. Dhawan hits the second ball to the fence. Dhawan hits the fourth ball off Harbhajan's third over for a six, a shot that helps the home team get past the 50-run mark. 

However, Sangakkara (21) hits it straight back to Harbhajan two balls later.

Steyn, despite an expensive second over, ends with impressive figures (4-0-27-0). 

Perera to bowl the final over. Rayudu hits successive boundaries off the third and fourth balls as 16 runs come off the over, Pollard (14 not out) finishing with a boundary, one that brings up the 50-run partnership for the fifth wicket (off 43 balls).

Mumbai manage only 129 for four in their stipulated 20 overs.

Mishra back after the break. He gives away just five runs, ending with figures of two for 24. What a tournament he is having. 

Perera to bowl the 18th over. Rayudu hits the slow ball, picking up the slower one, and hits it to the midwicket fence. Still only eight off the over. The visitors need much more. 

Steyn to bowl the penultimate over. He concedes just five runs.

Two new batsmen at the crease for Mumbai. Kieron Pollard has come in to replace his captain while Ambati Rayudu is in for Smith.

Perera is back to bowl. He gives away just four runs. Ishant returns, replacing Mishra (3-0-19-2) in the 15th over, and finishes his spell (4-1-15-2).

Steyn bowls the 16th, giving away only six runs.

Mumbai 95 for four after 16 overs. Time for the second strategic timeout.

Amit Mishra is unlucky in his second over as Ishant not only puts down Smith (on 25) at long-off but also puts it over the fence for a six. 

Karan Sharma ends with figures of none for 25 off his four overs. Mishra though strikes in his third over, having Rohit (22) caught by Ishant at long-off, the fielder making amends for his earlier blemish.

Rohit's run-a-ball knock was inclusive of two boundaries and he put on 42 runs with Smith for the third wicket, albeit in 44 balls. 

Smith eases the pressure with a boundary but Mishra has Smith (38) out leg before off his fifth ball for his 90th IPL wicket.

Mumbai 80 for four after 13 overs.

Thisara Perera replaces Steyn (2-0-16-0) in the attack in the sixth over. Rohit hits the fifth ball past point for a boundary. The sixth ball also fetches him for a boundary, over mid-on on this occasion. 

Just a single off Ishant's third over. Karan Sharma back into the attack in the eighth over and he concedes seven runs, with Smith hitting the fifth ball over the bowler for his second boundary.

It's twin spin for Hyderabad with Amit Mishra into the attack before the first strategic timeout, replacing Ishant (3-1-10-2). Mumbai reach the 50-run mark in the over.

Ishant though strikes in his second over, rattling Tendulkar's (14) stumps with his third ball. 

Dinesh Karthik comes out to join Smith at the crease. He's dismissed second ball, caught by Karan Sharma at point.

Ishant Sharma to bowl the third over, replacing Sharma (1-0-6-0). His fourth is a no ball and off the ensuing free hit Smith clears the rope.
