IPL updates: Rahane, Dravid help Royals pip Warriors

Riding high on twin half centuries by Ajinkya Rahane and Rahul Dravid, Rajasthan Royals have thrashed Pune Warriors by five wickets. 

Chasing a mammonth 178 for victory, the openers put on a 98-runs stand. But Wayne Parnell pulled things back for Warriors with important wickets of Shane Watson, Brad Hodge and Sanju Samson. 

But a cool head from Stuart Binny prevailed to guide the hosts home with 1 bal;l to spare.

Umpires want to have a look for height -- but replays show that the ball is well below the waist line. 

Sanju Samson walks in and smashes consecutive boundaries to keep Royals with the run rate. 

At the end of 18 overs Royals were 161-4

Bhuvneshwar Kumar strikes an important blow as he removes Ajinkya Rahane for 67. 

Rahane who had been anchoring the innings lofted one high in the air and was caught nicely at square leg by Rahul Sharma.

Royals were 136-3, still requiring 43 from 24 balls.

Wayne Parnell comes back for his second over and he STRIKES!!!

The South African had Shane Watson chopping one back on to his stumps for 5. Big wicket this for Pune, who have been struggling with their bowling. 

At the end of 15 overs Rajasthan Royals were 128-2. Rahane is on 62.

Rahul Dravid smashed 36-ball 50 to put Rajasthan Royals in control of the chase. 

The Royals skipper reached the landmark with a maximum off Rahul Sharma. Ajikya Rahane at the other hand is giving Dravid good company ensuring that they are getting one boundary an over. 

But Dravid couldn't last long as he perished looking to up the ante, giving a simple catch to Mitchell Marsh for 58 off Angelo Mathews. 

Royals 99-1 after 12 overs. Rahane is on 38 and is joined in the middle by Shane Watson.

Yuvraj Singh into the attack as the first ball is creamed through off-side for boundary by Rahul Dravid. 

Dravid takes a single with a drive towards long-on. Rahane takes a single to keep the strike rotating.

Dravid picks up a single to round off the over as Royals were 72-0. Dravid is on 40, while Rahane is on 30.

Rajasthan Royals have got off to a positive start chasing 179 for victory.

Openers Ajinkya Rahane and Rahul Dravid have been dealing in boundaries. 

As we speak, Rahane lofts Krishnakant Upadhya for a boundary over the bowlers head. 

Rahane then times a ball well but straight to the fielder. A single towards the leg side as Upadhya has pulled things back. 

Rahul Dravid meanwhile, gives himself a bit of room and smashes it over the bowlers head for second boundary off the over. 

Dravid helps himself with another boundary to bring the fifty for the Royals. 

Royals were 53-0 after 6 overs.

The hosts need 126 runs from 14 overs. Dravid is on 31, while Rahane is on 20.

James Faulkner to bowl the final over of the Pune innings as Angelo Mathews flicks one for a single. 

A wide delivery follows. 

A full length delivery from Faulkner gives Marsh gets a single. A couple for Mathews to keep the strike rotating. 

A slower delivery from Faulkner has Mathews playing the shot too early and is easily caught in the deep by Ajinkya Rahane for 18. 

A six off the final ball takes Pune to a healthy 178-4. None of the Rajasthan bowlers could get their length right and hence gave 20-30 runs extra.

First up is a slower delivery as Marsh pulls it for a boundary towards midwicket. 

A full toss gives Marsh a single.

Rajasthan Royals get the all important wicket of Robin Uthappa courtesy of a run out. 

James Faulkner in to the attack as he thuds into Mitchell Marsh's pads. Uthappa takes off at the non-strikers end, but Sanju Samon is alert behind and knocks the stumps down with a direct blow finding the opener short of his crease. 

Uthappa made 54 off 41 balls.

At the end of 16 overs, Warriors were 133-3.

Robin Uthappa has been in sublime form for Pune Warriors as he slams yet another half-century in the IPL.

Siddharth Trivedi to Uthappa as the Karnataka batsman gives the bowler the charge and smashes it for a boundary over the bowlers head.

But Warriors fans have little to cheer as Yuvraj departs after giving a simple catch to Kevon Cooper at long on. 

At the end of 14 overs, Warriors were 124-2. Uthappa is on  54 and he is joined in the middle by Mitchell Marsh.

Kevon Cooper provides the much-needed breakthrough as he castles Aaron Finch for 45. 

Finch looking to give Cooper the charge gets an inside edge back on to the stumps much to the delight of the bowler.

Pune 97-1 after 11 overs. Uthappa is on 42, while Yuvraj Singh is yet to open his account.

Shane Watson returns in to the attack as Uthappa steers one towards third man for a single.

Finch gives Watson the charge but the outswing takes the ball away from the bat. 

Finch cuts Watson for a boundary through the point region. 

A single to round off the over -- six runs from the Watson over. 

Pune 80-0 after 9 overs. Finch is on 37, while Uthappa is on 35.

A very slow bouncer follows -- Uthappa lets it go. 

A seam-up delivery from Binny as Uthappa misses it. 

Uthappa then smokes one for a maximum. Chandela does manage to take the catch but his foot was over the boundary rope -- hence first six of the match. 

A leading edge gives Uthappa a single as Pune were 74-0. Uthappa is on 34, while Finch is on 32.

Kevon Cooper brought into the attack -- and he starts off with a wide delivery down the leg side, which rolls into the boundary. 

Cooper is quick to correct it with a straighter one. 

A dab Uthappa gives a single on the off side.

Finch looks to carve one through the offside but straight to fielder. 

Finch then  lifts one over the fielders head for the second boundary off the over.

Pune at the end of 6 overs were 61-0. Finch is on 28, while Uthappa is on 26.

Chandela need to get his radar right as he gifts Finch a single. 

Robin Uthappa then clips one down the leg side for a boundary. 

Uthappa then creams one through the covers for second boundary off the over.

Uthappa then takes a single with a hit towards long-on. 

Finch rounds up the over with third boundary off the over with a sweep towards fine-leg.

Warriors were 30-0 after 3 overs. Uthappa is on 13, while Finch is on 16.

The Warriors have won the toss and have elected to bat first on a good batting track. 

Warriors have made five changes to their side. 

Royals have made four changes to the side with Wason, Faulkner, Hodge and Cooper being the four overseas player.

Lasith Malinga strikes twice in his second over, first having Chris Morris (0) bowled and then having Mohit Sharma (0) caught by Suyal at deep point to perform the last rites. 

Ojha has Jadeja (20) caught by Rayudu, for his third wicket, to ensure an emphatic win for Mumbai. 

Chennai all out for 79 in just 15.2 overs.

The home team win by 60 runs to end the visitors' seven match winning streak.

Chennai get to 40 for five at the first strategic timeout. And in the first ball after resumption, Pragyan Ojha has Mike Hussey (22) caught by Dwayne Smith at deep midwicket.

Sir Ravindra Jadeja comes out to join his captain at the crease.

Ojha strikes again in his second over, having Dhoni (10) caught by Pollard at long-off.

Dwayne Bravo eases the pressure with a couple of boundaries off Suyal. However, the bowler strikes with the last ball of his second over having Bravo (9) caught by Rayudu at extra cover.

Harbhajan Singh replaces Johnson  (2-0-7-3) in the attack in the fifth over. He concedes three runs first up. 

Suyal continues with his third over and Hussey smashes the second ball over square leg for a huge six. After the powerplay, coincidentally both teams made 32, the visitors albeit having lost four wickets to Mumbai's none.

The visitors lose a fifth when Ashwin (2) is cleaned up by Harbhajan.

Johnson albeit strikes with the first ball of his second, Vijay (2) guilty of dragging a wide ball onto his stumps. 

Suresh Raina comes out to bat. He is out first ball, caught at point. Pollard has made amends. 

Johnson strikes for a third time in the over, having Badrinath out leg before.

Chennai 10 for three after three overs.

Mike Hussey and Murali Vijay come out to open the innings for Chennai and it will be Mitchell Johnson first up for the home team. 

Pollard drops Hussey thrice (in a row) at point in the over, the last two being fairly simple chances. Pawan Suyal to share the new ball.

A huge six over long-on by Rohit, in the 18th over bowled by Laughlin, helps Mumbai get past the 100-run mark. The home team get past the six-runs-per-over mark for the first time in this innings.

A few good hits by their captain (39 not out) and Harbhajan (25 not out), and their 55-run stand (off 28 balls) for the sixth wicket, help MI's total get a semblance of respectability.

Mumbai manage 139 for five in their stipulated 20 overs.

Ambati Rayudu comes out to join his captain at the crease. Nine runs come off Laughlin's second over, with Rayudu getting a boundary.

Jadeja has finished his spell (4-0-29-3). R Ashwin replaces him, bowling for the first time in the 14th over. He gives away just three runs.

Ashwin strikes in his second over, getting past Rayudu's (10) defence. Harbhajan Singh starts off with a huge six over long-on.

Morris replaces Jadeja (2-0-13-1) in the ninth over. Just two runs off the over and the home team has managed only 45 runs at the first strategic time-out (after nine overs). 

Jadeja back again after the powerplay and he strikes first ball, having Pollard (1) caught by Raina at long-on. Captain Rohit Sharma walks in with his team in deep doldrums. 

Ben Laughlin replaces Morris (3-0-14-0) in the attack in the 11th over. The home team gets to the 50-run mark in the over. 

Karthik, having survived a leg before shout in the first ball of Sir Jadeja's final over responds with a couple of boundaries and a six. 

But the bowler has the last laugh, having Karthik (23) caught by Raina at deep midwicket.

Dinesh Karthik has replaced Tendulkar at the crease. Darren Bravo, the purple cap holder, is into the attack in the eight over replacing Mohit Sharma (3-0-16-0).

He strikes with his fourth ball, catching Smith (22) off his own bowling. Kieron Pollard promoted up the order.

Mumbai 43 for two after eight overs.

Only four runs, a boundary by Smith over the bowler's head, come off Mohit Sharma's second over. 

Smith helps himself to another boundary in Morris's second over. Tendulkar is really struggling, just three off 13 balls. The 14th ball he faces he hits straight past the bowler for his first boundary. The 15th is scooped over fine-leg for a six.

Sir Jadeja is back to bowl in the seventh over, replacing Morris (2-0-12-0). Smith hits a huge six off the second ball.

However, Jadeja hits back two balls later, having Tendulkar (15) out leg before.

Mumbai 41 for one after seven overs.

Sachin Tendulkar and Dwayne Smith open the batting for Mumbai and it will be Sir Jadeja first up for Chennai. Four runs come off the first over. 

Mohit Sharma to share the new ball. He starts off with a wide but it is a maiden otherwise. 

Chris Morris replaces Jadeja in the third over. 

Mumbai 11 for no loss after three overs.

Chennai has two changes to the squad, Ben Hilfenhaus and Murali Vijay coming in for Albie Morkel and an injured Wridhimann Saha respectively.

Rookie Pawan Suyal replaces the injured Dhawan Kulkarni in the Mun=mbai team. 

Mumbai got the better of Chennai at the Chepauk. Wil MS Dhoni's team return the compliment?

MS Dhoni concurs with Rohit Sharma's decision.
