IPL updates! Punjab beat Delhi to keep alive slim hopes

Praveen Kumar bowls a good last over to end with figures of one for 19. Azhar Mahmood to bowl the penultimate over. Rohrer smashes two sixes off the first two balls and another boundary off the fifth ball as 19 runs come off the over.
Piyush Chawla to bowl the last over. He strikes first ball, bowling out Rohrer (49). The Australian's 29-ball knock was inclusive of four boundaries and three sixes and with his dismissal goes all hopes of a Delhi win.
Morne Morkel (13) hits two huge sixes but in the end it is not enough. He falls in the last ball as Punjab win by seven runs.

Delhi has reached 111 for four after 16 overs, at the time of the second strategic timeout that is.
They need 61 runs off their last four overs. Jayawardene and Rohrer have put together 50 runs for the fifth wicket but it is a tall ask nonetheless.
And it is all over in the first ball after resumption as Sandeep Sharma has the tediously slow Jayawardene (39 off 42 balls) caught by Mana Vohra at deep square leg.

Sehwag scores a 22-ball 30 before Parwinder Awana has him caught behind.
Sehwag's knock had six boundaries and he helped his captain add 49 runs for the fourth wicket.

Virender Sehwag comes in at No.5, with his team in deep doldrums.

Mahela Jayawardene and Unmukt Chand open the batting for Delhi and it will be Praveen Kumar first up for Punjab. It's a good first over, just one run coming off it and the bowler is unlucky as Azhar Mahmood, at third man, puts down the Delhi captain.
Mahmood the share the new ball. Four runs from the over. Chand smashes the second ball off Kumar's second over over covers for a huge six. But the bowler hits back two balls later, crashing through Chand's (7) defence.
Still no Sehwag. Irfan Pathan comes in at No.3.

Morkel ends with figures of one for 22. However, Siddharth Kaul's (4-0-39-0) last over is an expensive one, Miller hitting a boundary followed by a huge six over long-off. The last ball goes out of the ground as 18 runs come off the over.
Umesh Yadav to bowl the penultimate over. He concedes 17 runs. Nehra to bowl the final over. It's a good over, just six runs coming off it, with the wicket of Sathish (22) to boot.
Miller remains unbeaten on 44.
Punjab manage 171 for four in their stipulated 20 overs, scoring a whopping 68 runs coming off the last five overs.

A boundary by Marsh, off Irfan, helps Punjab get past the 100-run mark, in the 15th over. Irfan Pathan ends with figures of one for 28.
The 16th over, by Umesh Yadav, is an expensive one 16 runs coming off it, with Marsh hitting successive boundaries and Miller a huge six over midwicket.
However, the return of Morne Morkel ensures Delhi a breakthrough, the South African has Marsh (45) caught by Irfan at long-on. Marsh's 44-ball knock was inclusive of seven boundaries and he helped Miller add 34 runs for the third wicket.
R Sathish comes out to bat and begins with a couple followed by a huge six, as 11 runs come off the over.

Nehra provides Delhi a second breakthrough in his third over, having Mahmood (9) caught by Kaul at the fence. It's a pectacular catch this.

Irfan replaces an expensive Nehra (2-0-27-0) in the attack in the seventh over and strikes third ball, catching Gilchrist (42) off his own bowling.
The Punjab captain's 26-ball knock was inclusive of five boundaries and a couple of sixes, and he helped Marsh add 60 runs (off 45 balls) for the opening wicket.
Azhar Mahmood replaces him at the crease.

Morne Morkel to bowl the third over. Marsh smashes the third ball past point to the fence. He's unfortunate in his fourth ball as Umesh Yadav puts down Gilchrist (on 8) at third man.
Delhi make four bowling changes in the first four over, bringing in Ashish Nehra to bowl the fourth. Gilchrist hits the second ball over the mid-off fielder for his second boundary. The third ball goes past Sehwag at slip for another boundary.
Morkel's second is a good one, just two runs coming off it. But Nehra's second is expensive as well, 17 runs coming off it.
Punjab 53 for no loss after six overs. Time for a strategic timeout.

Marsh hits successive boundaries off the last two balls as nine runs come off the opening over. Siddharth Kaul to share the new ball. He gives away eight runs with Gilchrist hitting a boundary off the fifth ball.

Delhi Daredevils won the toss and invited Kings XI Punjab to bat first in their Indian Premier League match at Dharamsala.
Mahela Jayawardene is back as Delhi captain.
"It's look like a good wicket, so let's see how it goes," he reasons. His opposite number, Adam Gilchrist, agrees.
"I'd have liked to bowl first as well but this looks a belter," he said.
